Persona is an SMT spinoff originally based on Shin Megami Tensei If, which is a spinoff of Shin Megami Tensei, which is a spinoff of Megami Tensei, which is based off a trilogy of novels called "Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei."
I think that is how it goes. I may be wrong.
Fate has that too and there's still switch versions of hrs latest game so I'm not sure that means all that much beyond legacy.
Well, the words in the teaser were in Japanese so I assumed that "Shin Megami Tensei HD" is the actual name for the project, since everyone from gaming outlets to fans and even the title of that video, are referring to it as that.
What HD part? That's just what people are calling it because there's no title yet. Did you watch the teaser? It says "Shin Megami Tensei - Newest Entry", there's no HD or anything.
It was because of this:
I don't have to link to whatever site this was from now, but the HD part was there.
Yeah I know all this, but there's a reason why every single fate game and numerous remakes has hit play station platforms up to that point (it's far more linked than persona was to that point). Sony also publishes Fate Grand Order. Persona also has a 3DS series so it's clearly not all that tied up so I disagree completely.Nah Fate is different. I can see how it looks the same if people aren't familiar with the behind the scenes business stuff. Fate is a Type-Moon franchise that they license out to collaborate with anyone who has a good idea. Fate/Extella is a Marvelous initiative with Type-Moon and has nothing to do with Aniplex or Sony at all. Prisma Illya is another example of an anime product that has nothing to do with Aniplex because the relationship is formed through Kadokawa's manga product. Aniplex's association with Fate is mostly through their Ufotable productions, and we can see that relationship translate to Ufotable also animating the new OP sequences when they ported the original game to Vita.
Other comparisons in the Aniplex/GamePublisher relationship can be see in Tales Of games and God Eater.
Yeah well, turns out fans are stupid. Who knew?!

You gotta admit that it's just a little weird to introduce it as a HD project like its a new thing for the series, when SMT has already had 2 HD games (Persona 5, SMTxFE)Yes it's a platform for HD systems, as opposed to 3DS. The game was never called "SMT HD" or anything like that. It was always "Newest entry in SMT series".

Neither of those are Shin Megami Tensei games...
Atlus had a part in that. I mean fans weren't the only ones that thought HD was part of the project's name. Gaming outlets thought the same.Is there really?

It seems Son of Sparda is doing a lot of learning today.
Persona,[a] also known as Shin Megami Tensei: Persona, is a video game franchise developed and primarily published by Atlus.

I wonder if they are going to use the same 3D models that are in that mobile game
Finally!
So many questions: is it SMTV? A remake? A new spin off?
Is it a full Switch exclusive?
I wonder if they are going to use the same 3D models that are in that mobile game
''Shin Megami Tensei for Switch'' is a good self explanatory and idiot proof title, Atlus should consider using it.
Yeah I do understand that. My point those things don't preclude other versions of the gamw same way Sony marketing destiny does not preclude the Xbox versions. It's just profitable business (I mean they're not even in tow same subdivision).Yes it's a platform for HD systems, as opposed to 3DS. The game was never called "SMT HD" or anything like that. No you don't even understand what I'm talking about. It's not "legacy" it's about promotional benefits and marketing. When games are exclusive to Sony platforms, there is motivation for Sony partners to help push the brand even harder in the ways they can. There is a Persona 5 TV anime coming from Aniplex next year. So no, it's not legacy when Persona 5 is concerned. There's a reason why even the dancing spinoffs are still on Vita and not Switch. It's not a "coincidence" at all.

Why not use models from Persona 5?
What if it's for more than Switch tho?
Unless it's not Switch exclusive lol

It may have been the deal but that's just an assumption on your end.
I always thought Persona was a spin-off from SMT series, no? Don't they share a lot of similarities from gameplay and combat to demon/enemy design? Weren't the earlier games officially called SMT: Persona? If you're asking me if I think Siliconera is dumb I would say yes?
Edit: I don't know if you're really this ignorant about this or if you're throwing in the US/JP title confusion just for kicks. Lol.
Huh, didn't know that. I always thought it was the other way around. That western branch dropped SMT branding because Persona grew bigger than SMT in the west. (I'm sure I had heard that before in one of the Persona threads on GAF)Atlus Japan has never once called Persona "Shin Megami Tensei: Persona". That branding was only ever used in the west (and it's even been dropped there for the past 5 years or so).

I don't follow SMT series that much, but as a Persona fan I always thought Persona was part of the bigger SMT series.
True and that's what mt arguejent was while there'a plenty going for it, it's not like properties closeslt linked with aniplex have not done so. That's all.I never once said that there is an ironclad deal that makes it exclusive. I'm saying that the investment in assisted marketing is what informs platform choices for publishers in Japan because of added benefits. The main point is that it is not a -coincidence- at all.

In Japan, the way it is communicated is very specific. Yes the games all have the same demons, share lots of similarities, and target fans of occult RPGs. But Shin Megami Tensei itself is never used on anything but the main series itself. SMT, SMT2, SMT If, SMT NINE, SMT Imagine, SMT3, SMTSJ, SMT4, SMT4A, and SMT DSJ. These are all the SMT games there are. The rest are not "SMT" games but similar Atlus games.
"Shin Megami Tensei" refers only to the mainline series. Persona shares some gameplay similarities and features, but it's considered a separate series (as are Devil Survivor, Devil Summoner, etc). There's a connective tissue, but when "Shin Megami Tensei" is said, it's referring only to the main series, not the whole MegaTen franchise.
And no, no games were ever called "Shin Megami Tensei: Persona" in Japan. Only in the west because Atlus US wanted to make clear that the titles were all linked together to western fans who weren't very familiar with any of the titles at the time.

There is the oddity of the first Devil Summoner being called Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner, but then that title was dropped afterwards starting from Soul Hackers. But that's the only exception in the Japanese side.
Not to derail but I hope Atlus makes a SMT if remake at some point (and names it Persona 0)

I'm still questioning why Atlus never translated SMT 1+2 and the first Devil Summoner game.
SMT1 is localized.
On iOS.
