Who cares?

It's entertaining, the allegory/symbolism works on a few different levels and its a weird fucking thing that exists

I don't think he made it with the mindset of "only religious scholars will get this"

That sort of storytelling isn't entertaining to me at all though. It comes off as lazy and heavy-handed.

And I'm not saying he had to construe the metaphor so no one would get it. I'm saying he needed something other than the metaphor. Symbolism is cool when it's an additional story layer. It's not entertaining when symbolism is your entire story.

My cable guide says Hulk Hogan is on some Fox News show. The fuck? Is this him beginning an attempt at reemerging on the national scene or something?

I bought into the game Aronovsky was playing, even though I went in ready to dismiss it as sophomoric tripe that a theater or film major would try to make as a thesis. The fact that I've seen Begotten helped a lot. The fact that I'm an Aronovsky mark obviously meant that I was also ready to give the film a chance. I dug it a lot, and I would recommend it to maybe two other people in my life and absolutely zero members of WrassleGAF.

Hell yeah! <3

The lack of fireworks really sucks. Does Kane still have his ringpost flames at least?

LAW guys preaching what I was thinking: Balor should have won by hitting a Coup de Grace on Bray when Bray did the bridge taunt that's supposed to be scary

Wow LAW guys calling the 5 way women's match the match of the night.

I'll watch Mother! eventually. Knowing the symbolism and allegory is kind of on the nose puts me off though.

The reason I love movies like Eraserhead, Lost Highway etc so much is that they are really open. You can see them as a story (fear of settling down, anxiety surrounding having a child), the model of an individual's psyche, take them at face value etc etc. Some scenes in Eraserhead remind me of noise "music" in that they are kind of textural, unconventional in context of the medium but express heavy emotion deeply. The final scene in Eraserhead with the white light, Henry being embraced by The Lady in the Radiator and the wall of industrial noise is one of my favorite scenes in a movie ever. Fuck knows what the intentions really were behind it, but it is full of feeling.

So, that is kind of what I really like from stranger movies. The openness. Knowing the symbolism is really blatant to the extent it almost isn't symbolic kind of puts me off.

On the other hand the symbolism in stuff like Blue Velvet is pretty blatant too. White picket fences and fireman with a dog panning down to dirt and dirty insects etc.

Don't want to get into spoiler territory obviously but I must say there's multiple interpretations. The symbolism is just really obvious for one in particular, but it's by no means the only one

It also helps to go in not expecting it but ya know..... lol

Movie gave me the fix of "what the fuck is going on" that I needed in Twin Peaks' absence. Not much else I can ask for

Can't say I really care about how obvious the stuff was just because there's a lot more going on in the movie and the journey itself is just hella bizarre

Looks like I have to flip flop on Cesaro and Sheamus being boring. That tag match was the best match of the night.
Didn't you see their match at Summerslam? That was good too.

The Bar just hasn't had good opponents to work with for a good while. I think they'll probably main event TLC. Their match-up is pretty perfect for the TLC stipulation. And it doesn't seem like there are any other matches that could close really. Reigns/Miz is an undercard match if it happens (I'm guessing the purpose of Miz TV is to get the ball rolling), and aside from that, not sure what they'd do with Balor, Bray, and Strowman. Nothing that would feel like a main event though.

Shield/Bar is the way to go. That can be TLC and Reigns/Miz could be a Ladder stipulation. That leaves you a Table match for someone else.

Stuck in deep with early 1999 Nitros. Holy god they can go 40 minutes of their one hour lead over RAW doing nothing but skits.

That last half hour was incredible in the sense that it was definitely the most disorienting experience I've had in a theater

See I just can't really agree with these viewings of it. Came off incredibly shallow and blunt to me. The stuff near the end never really shook me or anything because I never felt engaged in the story to the point where I had any investment.

But hey, to each their own. Glad you guys enjoyed it.

Same here

Because again, weird shit like this doesn't come out often (certainly not in wide releases)

Legit question: did you go in blind or were you at least sort of aware of the nature of the film?

Because it doesn't really get obvious until fairly late in the film, as someone who had no idea what to expect beyond "it's weird"

Mother's an interesting movie initially because the first part is still roughly cinematic. Something of a suspense of manners, so it still functions as allegory and movie. Then it just becomes 100% allegory and descends into a cacophony of creative insecurities and flailimg biblical references. It loses all cinematic touch and goes full brute force. It's like watching some poetry jam and someone starts parading around screaming about how traumatic it is to be an artist and how fucked up the Bible is. It is, as they say, pretentious pap.

I'm watching this Takeover when Zayn won the belt, and I completely forgot that Kevin Owens was actually a face for a grand total of whole hours. In other news, I really need to stop procrastinating and write this political philosophy paper. The Prince is a weird book.

I went in mostly blind, other than the fact that I know Aranofsky and his style. Saw it with friends who liked it for the most part.

To me the whole thing becomes obvious pretty quickly. I won't spoil anything, but once the second guest shows up and what happens happens, I pretty much nailed it down. Of course it's easier to break down specifics later, but the signs were not at all hard to read IMO. And then the rest of the movie confirmed my thoughts by jamming it's allegorical fist into my face over and over again to the point where when the end happens I was like "oh really we're doing this? ok". No real shock or awe. I didn't really care about any of the characters at all because the story was so rote with its symbolism that I never felt like Aranofsky was telling his own story. He was just putting a very transparent costume on another without adding anything meaningful of his own.

Like I get appreciating the idea that a movie like this got a wide-release. It's weird. But that does not at all make it a good thing. Abstraction and insanity is not inherently a good thing.

It was a really disappointing main event, and I'm not sure anyone can argue otherwise. It had none of the HOSS intensity of the Summerslam main event, and Strowman took less offense than any opponent Lesnar has had except for maybe Joe.

I think he was up to 4 at Maniao
Don't think it'll go far this time. He went down to one at Summerslam, and I think they're rebuilding Brock's finisher at the moment. Cena had previously kicked out of 3 F5s so they had to up the ante at WM31. I imagine 2 or 3 will be the maximum this time. I'm more curious how they'll book the match. Brock isn't quite the monster he once was so we'll probably get more of a back and forth affair.

I actually feel a little disappointed Brock doesn't have that same monster aura. It felt really fresh at the time and made his matches really exciting.

So I heard Cena endorsed Reigns. I'm sure this time Reigns will be cheered by the fans, right????
No, but I'm sure sometime soon fans will realize that they've given up on him being cheered by all the fans. Feels like some of you are still stuck in 2015.
