Dammit, I keep looking at my pre-order and telling it to download but it does nothing. :(

GT Sport [OT] PS4 Prologue Enhanced

Had on order for some time, cannot wait:

It's not really a campaign, it's basically just the old licence tests. Anyone buying this game for SP is in for a very rude awakening.

Bugger that, then. Fortunately this gen has been excellent for racing games, so there are plenty of other options. Hope this sells like a skid mark, although I know it will probably be very popular.

Does GT sports require you to be online at all times to even get the game to run a.k.a DRM?

Gran Turismo Sport: Eight Things You Need to Know

Playstation Blog said:
This year's Gran Turismo includes a world first — the only video game with an online Championship endorsed by the world's motoring governing body, the FIA. As a competition endorsed by the same organization that oversees some of the biggest races in the world we're taking racing integrity very seriously for the FIA GT Championship.

In order to ensure fair racing for all, GT Sport will require an internet connection for the majority of functionality. This connectivity requirement is to ensure that progress, car availability, and driver ratings are properly maintained at all times.

PlayStation Plus will only be needed for online multiplayer. Portions of the Arcade Mode, including limited two-player split screen, single-player races on select tracks, and time trials can still be played in an offline environment.

This game should be cheaper if that's the case

Portions of the Arcade Mode? Select tracks? $60?
The online mode must be completely flawless for this to not end in a backlash, and even if it is flawless there will still be a backlash since not everyone who buys the game on a whim because it's the latest GT want to sub to PS+.

So that section is confusingly written. It's talking about online connection requirement in most of the game at the same time as talking about PS+ requirement.

The sentence you just quoted is what's available without being online.
PS+ as it says just prior is only needed for multiplayer.

For example the campaign is not mentioned as a thing that's playable offline (for integrity reasons), but PS+ is not required there since it's not multiplayer.

PS+ is for online multiplayer. An online connection will be required for certain modes like daily challenges, and the modes there can be played completely offline.

Forza is not GT. Move on where? To GT7 in another 4 years? I've been playing GT since PS1 and loved every single game except GT6 which arrived when I had already jumped into the PS4 generation. So I've been waiting for a new GT since GT5, I'm sorry if it offends if I express my disappointment that I won't be able to enjoy this installment and have to wait for the next one instead (which might not even appear on PS4 or have a single player focus).
I guess my hope is that this talk don't just fades away and that PD is listening and finds a way to add a single player campaign as DLC.

I'd suggest giving it a try, I was a bit worried until I played the beta but that felt like pure GT. I always used to play through the various campaigns and never play online. The problem I found with the GT campaign modes is that they never really felt like a campaign, just a list of disparate races that could almost have been randomly generated. It was frustrating to pretty much always start in last place with the goal of weaving your way to the front before the end in a way that seemed completely unrealistic (i.e going from 12th to 1st in three laps).

The whole act of qualifying for a race and having some control over which place you start a race in seems much more satisfying, even if I did frequently still start at the back.

And even if you're completely right, I don't see career mode as something that would be difficult to patch in post release. There never really has been much to it, it's more a list of menus than anything, giving access to a list of predefined races. I think this change will benefit the series, and if they do add a more comprehensive campaign mode then it'll be better than before because of what they've learned. The racing just feels much better, and more importantly the elements around that racing.

I just can't wait to get the whole thing and play it without the limitations in the beta.

will the g 27 wheel officially be supported in gt sport?

No. Only the Thrustmaster T150, T300, T500 Series and the G29 are confirmed. Maybe the Fanatec CSL Elite will work since that is officially licensed but it was not included in the GT:S beta.

You can use a DriveHub to turn your G27 into a G29 but I personally would upgrade the whole G27 instead of paying ~100 bucks to keep it.

This.

I find it amazing how many people seem to have given up on the game or want it to fail, without playing it first, just because it's trying something different. Gameplay is the best GT has ever been and it still has a decent amount of content, even though PD have trimmed the fat from past games.

Campaign Mode - 150+ Challenges, Tests and Driving Etiquette Training.
Arcade Mode - Race against AI with Custom Options / 2 Player Split Screen.
Sport Mode - FIA Online Racing Championship.
VR Mode - 1 v 1 Racing in VR.
Brand Central - Buy cars and watch movies about the history of the manufactures.
Livery Editor.
Scapes Photo Mode.
150+ Highest Quality Premium Cars - No more standard cars with no interiors.
17 Tracks with 28 Layouts.
4K CBR / HDR / 60fps / Improved Sound.

It's not perfect but there's still plenty of game here, it's far from a bare bones release like some people are trying to make out. DLC (cars and tracks) will only improve on this foundation, maybe a career mode will come at some point too. Games seem to have a habit of getting big improvements with DLC this gen, so it wouldn't surprise me if that happens here too.

That layout number is wrong. No idea why they said 28, but we counted about 40 layouts in GTPlanet.

Yea, seeing it laid out like this justifies the $60 price-tag.

Content shouldn't be an issue, especially since this game will likely have extensive DLC for the foreseeable future.

They just need to ensure that the online portion of this game launches without a hitch, unlike Drive Club's disastrous release.

Yeah definitely. Hopefully that's why they extended the Beta, to make sure the online is up to scratch, it was pretty good when I played the Beta.

Most online games have a few issues at launch but as long as it's nothing like DriveClub, then it should be fine.

Almost sounds hard to believe but respect to Polyphony for their decision. I'm still skiping the game though.

Japanese pubs/devs seem to have a little bit more respect from the Western pubs/devs who have no issue robbing children and grandparents blind.

The mobile industry in Japan is apparently a fucking nightmare, but AA/AAA development seems to be a generation behind than the West with MT/loot box fuckery.

PD was probably shamed into removing MTs after GT6.

Well lets hope this never changes then.Especially since 80% of the games i buy are still from Japanese developers. :p

Haha no.

Not with the countless costume DLCs available for japanese games. Some are worse than Western Devs, no question.

That tends to be in RPGs that have lots of customisation/in-game unlockables anyway. The bigger problem with Western implementations is how hostile they become to all cosmetics to try and pressure you non-stop. In most JRPGs it's still hidden away in the store menu and genuinely doesn't have that much impact on the game. Not in the preying nature as some games here.

I'm not saying they won't catch up. The West, in general, is just more evolved and seedy. The loot boxes are the new poster boy over here right now as well. Even SP games are getting infested by them.

I mean why the fuck is there loot boxes in Forza? I'd hope people would digitally burn PD to the ground if we got loot boxes in GT. They've even backed down on GT6's MT's for now.

GT Sport |OT| No loot in this box
Loot in a driving game. SMH....

Anyway, GTS is looking quite good, can't wait to put it through it's paces. I expect much more content to flow in after launch. So you can bet there'll be more tracks, cars and events coming, but what's there at launch is pretty good.

Probably. From what we could tell, Dragon Trail and Blue Moon will have reverse layouts. Most if not all of the other do not.

We still haven't seen a lot of the tracks yet oddly enough.
Hmm the PS blog said 27 tracks
