The SNES classic reminds me how much better gaming was in the 16-bit era. 60hz lightning fast twitch based gameplay that in many cases requires intense concentration and an active 1-1 response rate with what's going on on-screen. The story and graphics are all secondary, it's the insane gameplay that makes this the true golden era of gaming. The controller is just perfect. The games are mindblowing. It's like ive been transported back to the early 90s, when I would only get a few games per year but god damn would they last me.
The collection here is nearly perfect but I can't for the life of me understand why there are 2 Kirby games here, if any. Everyone knows Kirby's 15 minutes of fame was manifested in the NES era's dying days and in the admittedly amazing Gameboy series. Why waste 2 slots for this guy when you leave the fucking SNES port of fucking SimCity on the table?? Not only is thr genre not represented here at all but the SNES version is pure classic and would have been well worth the licensing fee. Or, outside of that there's no reason why ActRaiser isn't on here.
Chrono Trigger gets called out as the de facto omission, but let's be honest... That game actually transcends being representative of games of that era. It came late in the SNES lifespan and, while great, I think by that point many people had already moved onto the next generation of games. CT deserves a full on remake and I don't fits in with the rest of this collection for numerous reasons...
How about sports titles? Who could forget Ken Griffey Jr's Winning Run, or the NBA Jam games? Licensing nightmares aside that's a glaring omission.
