Pacific Rim Uprising - Trailer 1

Color palette looks terrible
Art style doesn't seem as inspired, feels like a step down
Music is generic hip hop instead of awesome rock song from the original
Trailer spoils final boss of the movie

Yeah, I'll still see it but not good first impressions.

I know I just posted this but have any of you seen attack the block? John Boyega can legit carry a movie. The fact that he’s using his normal accent/voice makes me have more faith his performance will be strong here.

The new robots look like Transformers. The movement is too fluid and humanoid like. I don't think I like how this series is going at all.

180 seconds of marketing material and everyone is an expert.
Good to know that I just need to watch the trailer to review the film.

Posts like this never makes sense to me.

Trailers are meant to give an impressions of the film, quality, and tone all while selling it to viewers. The goal is to make the final product look enticing. Sometimes that doesn't happen, and as such people are not interested. If people aren't allowed to have criticisms then by that logic they shouldn't be allowed to be excited.

I like when people say a trailer spoiled a major twist even though they haven't seen the film and therefore don't know if it's a twist or not. If you guys have access to the script, I'd love to read it.

That looks fun. Will definitely see it. Liked the first one since it was a fun guilty pleasure for me.

Plus, I have Movie Pass so why not?

Love the original, despite the cringe worthy line of she's analog!

From the trailer I get the impression that the action will be much faster. One of the things I loved about the first one was how slow and heavy the movements were.

Also the trailer lacked any cargo ship to the face moment.

Will see it though.

YOu have won this thread right now.

I have the same feeling. It's like they sucked all of the character out of the movie and we're getting the Dr. K of Transformers movies.

Doesn't look as good as the first film, but given we almost didn't get a sequel I'll take what they give us if it has more mecha on kaiju fights.

Are these based on del Toro's ideas for other mechs or does he have no involvement? I remember reading about some of the ones cut from the originals script and they sounds great (mexican criminals !)

SFX needs work, clearly not to weta's high standard.

I'll be honest, I don't know much about 2Pac and rap for that matter, I was just a bit disappointed they used a licensed song instead of a remixed version of Pacific Rims 1 theme. It felt like it had an identity there, I don't want this franchise going the way of the Transformers movies.

Okay, this looks really good holy crap. I was worried when del Toro left the project but it looks like they are trying to give us more of the same only moar and that's more or less what I wanted from a sequel to PR.

After popping in the blu-ray of the first film and watching a few bits (haven't seen the original in a while), it's amazing how cheap the suits and cockpits look in this. Just the overall aesthetic is meh compared to the first.

What is "dumb" about it that wasn't "dumb" in the first movie?
Subtle difference but... The first film was aware it was dumb. This one isn't. It is also trying to be 'cool'.

and Yeah wtf is up with the scale of the robots? They move at human speed.

I disagree. Trailers are marketing - pure and simple. There have been many examples of how trailers include footage that isn't even in the final cut of the movie.

The first song was a licensed track as well.

It's difficult to say for certain but I would assume most of if not everything that Del Toro had in mind for the sequel got scrapped when they announced he would not direct it.

Del Toro mentioned a new Gipsy Danger that could be Gipsy Avenger, a new Jaeger named Black Maria that is not in the movie and he also hinted about there being some sort of Mecha-Kaiju which could still happen if the post above is right, I also remember that Charlie Hunnam was part of the project when Del Toro was the director, could be wrong though.

SO much negativity in this thread, why can't Western folks never go "oooh big monsters, OOOH BIG MECHS! OOOOOOOOOH BIG MONSTERS AND BIG MECHS BEATING THE TAR OUT OF EACHOTHER! WOOOHOOOO!" and let it go.

No.. next thing you know they want character development for the leading Kaiju. Finding out he had a bad childhood and thus wants to stomp all humans. :p.

Sorry just hyped for this as it's I Love these movies!

So for all you doubters:

It could litteraly look like that and I'd still tell you, :"over the sound of how awesome they are." :p.

I like this but a few things worry me:

- The jaegars look way too fast. Theyre missing the heft that made the first jaegars look more realistic. The jaegars feel kinda like transformers now.

- I dont mind the daytime stuff but I do miss the grit from the first movie. Hopefully there are night time battles as well. The jaegars look too colorful imo.

Overall I'm still kinda hyped but this definitely feels like a different movie. Boyega looks great though.

We need a scene of someone stealing one of the new Jaegesr solidify the Gundam feel of this. I'm so looking forward to this.

I am legit surprised by how many daytime shots are in this though with that amount of CGI being used. I think all of Pacific Rim's fights were at night because the CGI is suppose to be easier to do when it's darker. Not to mention we had a LOT of water based fights as well in the first one.

They showed that the newer built ones were faster like this in the first film as well. Gypsy Danger was suppose to be one of the oldest along with the Russian unit and both of those moved pretty slow. Where as the newest one Striker Eureka looked similar to the ones we see in the trailer and moved pretty fast.

Personally I do like it when robots of this size move slower to be honest.

It doesn't matter who we are, what matters is our plan.
I love Pacific Rim.

However, this sequel could so easily lose sight of its manga inspiration and fall dangerously into Transformers territory.

This trailer leaves me a little concerned that it’s the latter.

Loved the first one, but you can tell this has a lower budget. Will watch day one regardless though.

Well, day 3 probably, since day 1 crowds are a little two rowdy for me.

Yeah, didn't feel at all this trailer. I loved the original with all it's flaws, but this trailer was not good.

The images looked cool, even with the slightly reduced budget, and I like seeing the jaegers together, but the use of the "war" song was completely inappropriate, and took me out of the trailer. Eh!!!

Yeah Striker was more faster than the others but maybe its the animation on the new movie thats throwing me off? Maybe a combination of less detailed models and less "realistic" animation? I cant quite put my finger on it.

I'm curious where people draw the line between over-the-top anime mecha action and Transformers. To me, the defining trait of Transformers movie isn't that they move fast and do crazy action. It's that Transformers is an incomprehensible mess. Stuff I've seen in this trailer seems pretty comprehensible to me.

Looking batshit which is great. You can tell the budget has been slashed and it's a different team. Also kill Scott Eastwood off as soon as possible.
