Autumn Anime 2017 |OT| Makes us all rotten

Well, they subbed those with girls, which I'm sure you can agree is the better choice.

Apart from that, it's the same. VR like interfaces for battle mode, summoning weapons via technology, attacking giant monsters that are a threat to human kind and people looking on from a control room with lots of monitors.

Sounds fun.

Aside from the fact that those girls aren't in well-designed giant robots.

What's better than a giant robot, which has the massive con of being too big to fit in the house?

Well-designed tiny robots (that also acts like a Roomba)!

Oh that explains... well, at least the vague context of what I saw. Thanks. I was hoping an actual Episode 1 would go up to but it's not looking like it....

It's basically a flashback sequence that doesn't make much sense without context and already knowing who these characters are and about the whole eternal recurrence thing they want to end. And they cut out a ton of dialogue and narrative that actually makes Reinhard's motivation and turn (and what the hell is even happening) clear.

Hmm thanks, that really helps to clear things up. Makes it easier to figure out what to say in a review and take a sort of 'wait and see' till Episode 1 hits, and maaaaaybbbe
but probably not
redeems my curiosity for the series.

I was a bit worried about Kino's Journey, but the first episode of the new series seems spot on. Some of the CGI stuff is still a little weird, but I'm willing to overlook it

Yeah, in this world the British Empire won the American Revolution but lost against Napoleon, so the British nobility retreated to America which is now the Empire’s headquarters.

I recall there being a fair amount of detail to the backstory of the Code Geass universe, though not much of it is conveyed in the actual show. Like Ben Franklin betraying the revolutionaries to Britain or the fact that the Knightmares developed from a concept of having an escape pod on tanks or something.

Fans of Himouto! Umaru-chan should check out the director's previous works like Mitsudomoe, Mitsudomoe and Mitsudomoe.

You are a monster.
I'm just trying to find joy and positivity in anime rather than lamenting that it's dead every other second.

This anime is gonna look beautiful. I am really happy this wonderful manga seems to be getting a quality adaptation.

But man I thought it was airing Saturday not Sunday......... I have to wait two more days lol.

Edit: I have heard the song for the Opening of Magus Bride and man is it fantastic. JUNNA is a great singer. Now to wait if the visuals hold up because the song is great.

Fuck yes I love the smell of a new Garo season in the morning. Middle aged MC? Fine by me.

Can't wait for Vanishing line to come out on CR.

ffs went to go watch the first episode of Girl’s Last Tour and of course Amazon fucks it up by not having any subtitles. I’m trying to watch this shit legally but Amazons making it difficult. This isn’t the first time this has happened with them either.

Wasn't Garo supposed to start today on Crunchyroll? Is there a delay on the simulcast?

Hopefully this Garo is better than the last one.

I was wondering where it was too. I like that they're doing all these alternate takes with the concept, though I wasn't as big a fan of the second series as I was the first. I gladly would have taken more of that one, though the movie was nice.

Hands down my most looked forward to show of the season. I remember being bummed back when they had that promo only for it to seem like it was just a three episode OVA series, though that was nice too. The fact the promo seemed more like one for an adaptation made me hopeful though.

Hopefully it doesn't veer off the rails, though I feel like that is less common nowadays with manga adaptations.

Dies Irae ep 0 - This feels, looks, and sounds like an early 00s low/mid budget trashy action anime. Which, honestly, is pretty much the perfect aesthetic for Dies.

Kino no Tabi: A Beautiful World - 01

This is a gorgeous anime. I am absolutely loving the eye candy! A very competent adaptation so far that manages to marry the beauty of the world with the grisly happenings later on. Pure Kino. Pretty much met my expectations exactly.

If it keeps up the quality, I'll have no complaints!

Just a day away. Should go up on CR 19 hours ish from now.

This new adaptation has more... color and definitely is much brighter than what I felt was the always gloomy feel of the original.

A new adaptation. I saw that some episodes of it will be adapting stories that already appeared in the earlier anime. I think there was some reader vote of best Kino stories that influenced what was included in this new anime.

Hmmm okay. Should I watch this one first or the older ones first...

Yuki Yuna is a Hero [END]

I actually liked the ending a lot, even if there wasn't enough time to properly develop the situation. Yuki Yuna is the best hero, she punched a fucking Sun.

It may not be Madoka Magica, but it doesn't matter. It's pretty good and it has its own charm. And the music is too good.

Girls' Last Tour Episode 1

Pretty chill first episode. Not a lot going on yet but it’ll be interesting to see the world more fleshed out and seeing what happened exactly, got a few hints of that in the episode here. When Yuri pointed her gun at Chito tho I was like “oh shit this just got serious real quick” and then it turned out to be nothing. Seems like they were just playing around but there is the part of my can’t shake the feeling that maybe it wasn’t all just an act on Yuri’s part, but I dunno.

Yuki Yuna is the GaoGaiGar of Magical Girls.

Welcome to the Hero Club, fellow Hero!

That just might have been the digital painting techniques of the time.
Nah, there was definitely a conscious aesthetic choice to dull the palette in the original series. They deliberately went for a more dreamy sort of impression.

Personally, though, I'm a huge fan of the colorful (actually oversaturated) aesthetic in the new series. Those bright greens and oranges really work for me. But of course, that's just my taste.

Glad someone else is enjoying the series. And also happy to not read yet another impression where people bash the ending. :3

Kino's Journey (2017) 01

I was really worried about this, but it wasn't a bad start at all. It doesn't quite feel like the original, but that's fine.

Maybe it's just because it's been ages since I watched the first series, but in this adaptation it seems that Kino's somewhat unhinged.
We have a lot of shots of Kino gazing at the weapons the townspeople carry, staring at the man's body being carried away, yet in the end she still tells the traveler that the country is a safe place. Which in a way it is, but it's clearly messed up. There's a clear juxtaposition between how drawn out and brutal the killing of the criminal is, how insane the townspeople are made to appear during this scene, and how Kino seems to happily declare it safe. I guess it's because Kino's so seemingly detached from everything.

In any case, I can't remember if they were this way in the original or not. Maybe I should watch an old episode of it again to compare.

Holy fuck Amazon's video app on the Xbox One is garbaaaaaagggeeeeeeeee. If there are multiple people talking, they put the conversations all on the same line. What the fuuuck.

I really miss my Apple TV. Seems like no one gives a shit about X1 apps.

I voted in that poll! It was a couple years ago, and the results are here.

My choice was a story from Kino vol. 10, and the longest story in the entire series. It tied for 3rd place in the poll. If they adapt this one (and it's an obvious choice by this point)... this series will be good.

Because there's one type of story you never saw in the original series: the
Kino as villain
story.

And to give a sense of how much more source material there is now: the previous anime left off at vol. 6. In just a few days, Kino vol. 21 comes out.
