Progression based on loot crates is BS.

Yet there are specific class loot crates you can earn by doing the class milestones still its based around lootboxing than an actual direct progression

Random loot crates are in itself a very unsatisfying progression/reward system. I would have played Overwatch a lot longer if they had a proper reward system.

But now going into p2w territory with that makes it even more disgusting. The saddest part certainly is that most players do not care or might even appreciate it. Ia m not judging them, if that's what they want that's fine, it's just not for me at all and certainly ruins a game for me.

It makes sense when your whole monetisation model for post-release content relies on microtransactions, in this case loot boxes. You want.. well need make it slow and cumbersome to progress in your game without investing € into boxes.

If selling boxes doesn't take off expect them to axe content from post-release plan.

"Two years ago we launched Star Wars Battlefront and we got a lot of feedback. A lot of it positive and a bunch of it constructive."

And where did that get you EA?

Why did it have to be EA who got the Star Wars licence?

I sit through their awful conferences just to see Star Wars stuff now, and now they turned the game progression system into pure RNG where you can pay to get stuff.

Right, so they added a single step to buying loot boxes.

"The mafia doesn't extort, businesses willingly pay their protection fees."

Waht are you even trying to say? The game doesn't have microtransaction loot boxes at all, unless they're LITERALLY lying.

They are a literal monkey paw.

Players: "We want a game where the playerbase isn't fragmented by DLC, and their is a ton of content"

Ea: "OK. But we've gutted the progression system for one that is purely based on RNG"

Players: "Fuck..."

It actually makes me kinda sick that John Boyega is peddling this trash.

The license was always going to go to a megapublisher that could crank out games at a fast pace. All of them are on the loot box train. Disney doesn't give a shit about the permanence of these games.

... This is a very grey area and we should start treating it as such.

this is absolutely NOT a gray area at all. Loot box systems are designed to make people spend more money on the game, in a gambling/RNG way.

i don't think any loot boxes are put in a game just for the *fun* of it, or for making the game a better experience.

They could salvage the system if they use points in a loadout like they do in some of the Call of Duty games. Give each class like, 8-10 points to work with, and as you go up in Rarity, the cards cost more points, so a Base level card is only worth 1 point, whilst the highest level legendary is worth 4 points. Start everyone off with the Level 1 base sets, so they can equip like 10 small buffs, and when you have those super buffs you can equip them, but your capped around 2 of them at top.

Of course, I highly doubt they are going to do this until after that launch period where they have made the most money.

At least for the most part these publishers had the common sense to make lootboxes purely cosmetic, or for there to be an option to purchase the things from those boxes with in game currency.

That is not the case here.

Honestly, the loot crates/progression system is a massive, ugly flaw but the actual gameplay is also fucking shit.

I played with two friends for a couple hours and we all agreed by the end that the shooting felt shitty and the maps were bad.

All-around a huge disappointment and a big pass.

I didn't realize that while I was playing, game already turned me off based on the gameplay changes and this closes the deal. This fall sucks, fucking christ.

It sucks for some but we have a lot of great games coming out, too. Just so happens that Mario Odyssey is the only really stellar AAA game on the docket.

Hope the whales feed them. I'm not purchasing at launch.

Why the fuck would you want that? They only need the whales and it will make future games worse if it pays off.

Thank goodness I found a Switch in July, still gotta get Mario and Rabbids too.

Wolfenstein should be safe as well.

Class boxes seems to aliviate the grinding but the crafting part is horrible how you get currency , like overwatch was at the start

Reminds me BF1 DLC was "free" a few weeks a ago.

Its a play off on gambling where everyones mindset is one last spin (and it never is). In this case open one last crate

This is such a shame. I was really looking forward to some mindless Star Wars shooting. The space battles in the beta were outstanding. Maybe they will miraculously increase the crafting material drop rate by like 100x to minimize this. They need to come out and address this before launch or I'm cancelling my preorder.

AAA publishers are making fools out of themselves with this nonsense lol. There's going to be a breaking point where people no longer tolerate paying $60 to be nickel and dimed for more.

I know I've already reached it. I can't wait to play this in 2 years after a 75% off PS Plus sale.

What with the news of this and Mordor following the same model, I guess I'm going to back to Titanfall 2 and Overwatch. I refuse to pay more to progress in a game after I've already coughed up the money for the full price game.

If you think this is the peak of this fuckery, you are mistaken. The worst part about this is that, unfortunately, this is only the tip of the ice berg. It will only get worse. Having played some of those mobile games, this shit gets nasty and extremely convoluted (and yes I know all mobile games aren't like that). And having played the BF2 beta, the unlock system is just that, a convoluted mess.

Sucks too, because I like what I've played of the game, but if this is how it's going to be--pay-to-win, progression solely through RNG loot boxes--well, I want no part of that.

Here's hoping that the criticism will be loud enough for EA to make at least some adjustments.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 |OT| Use the Crate, Loot

this is amazing. won't get used because of salty fanboys though

I agree, I wasn't keen on the flying though (not as good as in the previous game) but as I have said already, EA/DICE need to come out and say something now (maybe a new BETA in two weeks with an update) the number of cancellations for this must be huge and people were complaining on the original game that not long after launch the drop-off in players was pretty big, so if this sells the same or even less than the original in the first few weeks of release then the drop-off will escalate if the current players cannot get games, I wasn't able to get a game on Strike on PS4 last-night as it was just waiting for players before the BETA went off-line (I have seen people saying it has been extended though now) so if the numbers are dropping off on the BETA it really doesn't bode well at all and this loot-crate integration in the game is everywhere and all gamers know about it.

I think for my online FPS I will stick with Rainbow Six: Siege, I just hope there is a Season 3 for it.

There will be a season 3, a season 4, and probably a season 5.

The game is doing well. The development team wants many more operators.

I miss Battlefield 3. If you played with a class and gun you got upgrades for that class and gun.

I felt motivated to reach 500 kills with each gun to unlock everything.

Good times

Wasn't that how it was in BF4, too? I can't remember.

And also I now feel sick because I just realized Battlefied will have loot crates in the next iteration.
