Lewis Hamilton to provide expert in-game advice in Gran Turismo Sport

Nah. I know a few people that work in the industry in Milton Keynes. None of them have a good word to say about him. He's a petulant manchild. Completely false. You can see a glimpse of it at times in the winners room after a GP where he'll completely blank racers that he doesn't want to talk to for one reason or another. Exceptionally talented driver though.

So Hamilton is the manchild and not the people hating on him for no good reasons?

Anyone willing to provide context on this guy?

Amazing driver, really is, historically one of the best.

Off track persona is that of a superstar prima donna, though. He's usually on the podium, so people are kinda tired of hearing his "these are the greatest fans, couldn't have done it without the team, etc etc" line all these drivers are kind of forced to make when in that position, but his usually feel especially fake, like he's above it all.

He had a couple of cringey years where he was more into rubbing shoulders with superstars on the grid than actually racing.

Also, check his instagram. Pretty douche-y.

None of that takes anything away from his driving ability, though. That's how good he is.

Best F1 driver ever. Ok thats going to set people off and I maybe biased as a Hamilton fan, but he is undisputedly a great in the sport and has surpassed legends like Michael Schumacher for most pole positions etc.

He is a multiple drivers world champion in F1 though he is loved and hated in equal measure. He has a large social media presence which seems to rub people the wrong way and some people believe he is arrogant and bit of a drama queen, but mostly, he's just #blessed

This. Hamilton is fantastic and he always thanks the crowd who turn up on race days, which is something I noticed other drivers don't do. If Schumacher or Senna had been around in age of social media, they would have got 10x the hate Hamilton does.

But damn, GT Sport looks stunning.

I've just said that people that deal with him on a semi regular basis have no time for him. People's reason for not liking him are their own. But he's shown on several occasions what a spoilt prick he can be, so I'd suggest they're not without merit.

(As a german) I think he´s cool.

Also the upcoming World Champion.

Also the driver with the most raw talent in years.

#bless me with your racing prowess Lewis.

I'll be interested to hear what he has to say as a mentor. Would be interesting to hear his approach to racing and speed. Guy is incredibly talented and at the top of his game right now.

The hate hard on for Lewis is as strong as ever on GAF I see.

Id say it pretty much mirrors real life as well. In the office, in the pub, out with pals..... I dont know many people who actually like him, respect him as a driver yeah, but as a half decent personality? I dont know many fans of his.

He is an arrogant, unsporting dick as some drivers tend to be.

One reason I don't like him is his materialistic up his own arse celebrity persona. Samuel L Jackson was doing a mens cancer awareness thing and he couldn't be more uninterested sitting next to him, think it was Graham Norton, he only cared about the celebrities and party. Confirmed to me he was a complete tosser.

Anyway, GT Sport. Wooo!

He's not stereotypically British so this doesn't surprise me.

On the other hand people love Andy Murray but I think he's a boring drip.

So what F1 car are we getting?

Lewis Hamiltons should be seen but not heard.

Love love love his driving but the guy is an unbearable try hard.

It's potentially thorny thing to say but some of the Hamilton hate is also rooted in some slightly dodgy racial politics, not necessarily that people who don't like him are racist but more that he sticks out as a black celebrity that doesn't conform to what people expect from white celebrity in a historically incredibly white sport, in terms of how he dresses, his off-track interests, the lifestyle he leads.

That he gets labelled as arrogant or a diva when Vettel typically does not despite how we've seen them carry themselves especially in the last year is... mmm...

"It's probably cuz I'm black"

*slap*

Shhhh, he's universally hated and he's a horrible man, don't show people smiling around him.

Staged af.

Vettel does though, maybe just not as much. I think the difference is that Vettel comes across as a completely different person away from racing where Hamilton doesn't particularly

I'll give you the perspective of a Lewis defender, and then I'm sure the haters can provide their view:

He's black and came from a humble background to dominate F1 (first black man to do so). At the German GP a few years ago you could see people in stands wearing monkey outfits with Lewis' name on it - presumably meant to be some slight. I'm sure that's not what bothers all Lewis haters, but it's clearly the source of some hate.

He's a three time world champion, and currently ahead in the points on his way to number 4. He broke several qualifying records, and at this rate will probably be the greatest qualifier / pole position taker ever, if he has a few more seasons of this caliber. While there are those that will debate this point, he's an extremely skilled and talented driver who is very driven to stay on top.

Like every world champion I've ever seen, he gets very intense in the pressure cooker of a race and will snap back at engineers asking him to do stuff during a race, but I've also seen him be gracious enough to give back a spot to a teammate that he got through team orders - even when the loss of points put him further back from the #1 spot earlier this season. Despite being literally rear-ended by Vettel for going too slow while following a pace car under caution, he was shaking his hand post-race and laughing and joking with him within a race or two. While he's active on social media and hangs out with celebs - a natural source of saltiness - he's stayed well away from the excesses of the Bibers and douchebags that live to feed the tabloid media.

He also is very clearly taken with the history and traditions of the sport, literally moved to tears when the family of his racing hero (Senna) gifted him with Senna's helmet, when he broke Senna's qualifying record. Overall I think he's a great ambassador for the sport, lifting it's public profile beyond the immediate bubble of insiders.

The main comments I've seen from those who don't like him are either on the driving side - i.e. people think he's not really that talented since he's leading most races with little competition in the fastest car around, or because of his comments or attitude to teammates/compeitors (particularly the retired Nico Rosberg)

It doesn't matter who we are, what matters is our plan.
I always find it amazing how much hate Hamilton gets, and yet how much love Raikkonen gets - the latter being a genuinely rude asshole.

Even Button is a bigger knob than Hamilton!

Three-time Formula 1 world champion, soon four.
Ah, salt from fans of other racers inbound

I have always think that people actually doesn't mind assholes sport celebrities. Is when they are successfull assholes that people get mad at them

A lot of the hate comes from the fact that he wants to get involved in things other than F1.

I mean, how dare he...?

S.Vettel wins the first of four consecutive F1 world championships after playing (and appearing in) Gran Turismo 5.

Coincidence? I think not!!!!

Raikkonen's great. His radio speech always provides entertainment, especially when he makes an angry incomprehensible grumble.

Pre-order confirmed so I can be #blessed.

Joking aside, I don’t like Ham that much but this is a good choice.

I personally would’ve preferred the actual current World Champion Nico Rosberg or Ricciardo(so I can do a virtual shooey), but yeah I don’t see this as a bad thing.

The presentation in GTS is already top tier, so it's nothing ground-breaking, but I like these touches. Make the experience even more authentic. That said, I hoped we atleast get a car from that announcement. That F1-engined Mercedes mentioned in the demo thread would be cool.

This, solid post.

So much love is poured into this game. You can tell the developers actually love the automotive industry and Motorsport more than any other dev out there. I love the screens of historical facts on the main menu and all of the significant brand historical events.
