Wow, that's a sizeable difference even for 1080p TV owners

Keep in mind, this is for 1080p owners. The difference is a lot bigger than I thought.
There is a difference no doubt. The question is, is it a $500 difference. This is going to be the ultimate question for many, especially for those who already own a XB1.

Also, on a side note am I the only one who doesn't care about these zoomed in comparisons that so many sites use to compare consoles? I always felt that if you need to zoom into the image to see a difference, then maybe the difference is not as noticeable as one may think. The Digital Foundry style comparisons are far more important in my opinion.

With that said, Microsoft did deliver with the XB1 X. For those looking for what it offers, will be pleased I'm sure.

Why would any of you sway folks from getting any console? How does that do any good for the overall community. If there are the means, everyone should get all consoles!

Hey, the Wii U was amazing. *hugs Wii U*

Oh, I know! I was actually kind of serious. If that poster only cares about exclusives as he/she claims, then the Wii U may be the system for him/her. It has one of the greatest first-party lineups ever.

Of course third-party games are actually pretty awesome and what most people play most of the time, and now the Xbox One X is the best way to do that if you are not a high-end PC gamer.

focusing on power over games was never good for the community

Play three generations of Xbox games, including the best version of every third-party game?

My friends and I play shooters and sports games so the whole exclusive thing doesn't matter to us, we're getting the X because it makes the games we play, better.

dude im seriously not trying to be a jerk or argumentative but when did better graphics ever make a game better....

Windows Central really is a joke.

How the XB1X can get away with having no true exclusives is beyond me. Costing $500 and having no exclusives and still getting favourable scores?! It must be the only console in history to get such favourable treatment from the games media.

Its not just them ... other sites are doing the same when other consoles were dinged for the lack of software at launch. Yes its much more powerful, but where are the exclusive games taking advantage of it. Anyways, good for the Xbox only gamers. But for others, its not an attractive buy at all. Especially looking at barren exclusive landscape from MS even in the near future.

I'n order to make great games you have to have the platform to support them. It's like trying to build a mansion on a faulty foundation. First you have to get your shit right before you start to build on it... prior to E3 Phil went to Japan and had this to say:
Phil Spencer Talks About Trip to Japan: “A Lot of Dev Interest in Scorpio/Xbox One”

Based on this, I am guessing Xbox wanted to get their shit together before dropping major loot on games prior to having the infrastructure set.

Report me if I continue to console war
So you wonder ifPS5 might end up being 40% more powerful than PS4 Pro in terms of GPU, use an enhanced Jaguar CPU at higher clock and have 12 GB RAM, thus being like Xbox One X in specs? It would be just absurd if that happened.

I think PS5 GPU will be at least twice as powerful as Xbox One X (thus, 12+ TFlops) it will use a whole class of CPU (Zen family thus much higher IPC) with significantly more & faster RAM, launching Holiday 2020. The future Xbox would launch either at the same time with roughly equal specs, or 1 year later with better specs. They will become the new standard PlayStation and Xbox consoles. Neither PS4 Pro nor Xbox One X will become the default consoles that developers build games on.

Next generation visuals isn't only 4K pixel resolution. Games will have significantly more complex graphics regardless of resolution. Not to mention more advanced physics, world simulation and size in open world games. They will need hardware very significantly beyond what Xbox One X is capable of.

Sony and MS can do that with there exclusives but given how scalable game engines are today, A game running at 4k 30fps on ps5/x2 would probably work on an 1X and maybe a pro at 1080p checkerboard and lower settings.

Do you still watch movies on VHS tapes?

well if I had one...why not?

i see where you're going with this but a dvd player doesn't cost that much more than a vhs player

now you tell me the price difference of the original xbox console and a xbox one...

A) Those examples are just for 1080p owners, but if you own a 4K TV and you factor HDR as well, one would think that the difference is worth the extra cash given that they spent the cash on a 4K TV for this kind of stuff... and it's not $500 dollars more than the PS4 Pro or even Xbox One.

B) If you're viewing this on a large display, you won't need to be zooming in, that's just for analysis purposes, the pixels are 1:1 which is not really a zoom but a crop of the image so you can see the difference, which in this case it's like the PC version vs console. Don't tell me you need to zoom in to see the difference between PC and console games... smh.

So I was playing Forza 7 on my 1080p TV yesterday on the XBX. Thought it looked good. Today I get an update (5+ gb) and it's now Xbox One X enhanced. Looks better! More detail and possibly other things but I can't be sure. Playing splitscreen looks very good as well.

Better graphics gives me a more enjoyable experience. If graphics didn't matter I'd still be on a 360. To answer your question, GTA V.... I loved the game on 360 but it was sooooo much better on Xbox One. The scenery alone kept me captivated for hours.

Stable frame rate though

I pre-ordered the Scorpio edition mainly for media playback. The Xbox One OG was my first MS console ever and I loved the media center aspect. Worked exceptionally well. I have an LG B7 OLED now and although I own a Switch and a PS4 Pro, Sony just doesn't handle media playback as well. It's too restricted. Plus, I was in the market for a UHD drive, and since it's too complicated on PC, X1X seems to be the logical choice instead of upgrading my motherboard and CPU in my rig: Xeon e5-2650v3, Asus Rampage V Extreme, 16GB Ripjaws 4, 960GB SanDisk Extreme Pro, 2TB WD black, Win 10 Pro, XFX RX 480 GTR Black Edition that I got for free with a warranty replacement from a 280x Black Edition.

Well, you may want to pay attention to some of the media playing restrictions on Xbox One X as well. This is from the Digital Foundry Review.

While the UHD Blu-ray drive is a feature that sets Xbox One X apart from PS4 Pro, elsewhere, the systems's 4K media playback functions do seem lacking. The onboard media player can't cope with the 4K media we produce for our video download site, digitalfoundry.net, and while Netflix does support both 4K and HDR, Amazon only ticks the ultra HD box, meaning that high dynamic range isn't available. Meanwhile, another rich source of 4K and HDR content - YouTube - is also served by a really poor app that provides neither.

The bottom line is that both the Panasonic and LG OLED displays we tested with Xbox One X support 4K media better than Microsoft's new console - and that's a shame, not to mention a real opportunity for the platform holder. While LG's WebOS front-end is a joy to use, we can't say the same for the Panasonic or Samsung front-ends, which the Xbox One X could replace with a far superior interface. To give Microsoft credit, the new dashboard is a massive improvement over prior efforts - fast, slick and responsive, it's logically designed and works beautifully.

No 4k or HDR on Youtube, No HDR on Amazon, and difficulties playing some other 4k media.

It's been interesting seeing the many negative reactions to this console. YouTube in particular is especially vile (no surprise there).

The most common complaint is "Most powerful console, yet can't do 60fps at 4k lol". Anyone who comes out with comments like that is very naive.

The reality is a 1080 Ti is unable to max out every game at 4k 60fps, so how was a console priced less going to come anywhere near.....

I think it's a good thing that Microsoft have released this, who wouldn't want better performance in games?!

Yes a PC can perform better - depending on spec - and the game it's running as we all know some pc ports are trash, but not everyone has the budget, or is inclined to want to mess about with pc.

Even if PC's are more user friendly, they're still nowhere near a console, a quick look on any pc game thread on a forum will give you an indicator for that. The threads are full of people discussing fixes, settings, etc.

The biggest issue MS have is giving people who don't care about specs another reason to buy the console. For me having a platform to play the best versions of third party games and a few exclusives is worth it, but for others they want to have more exclusive games.

To be honest Microsoft lost their way last gen with regards to exclusives, and this gen has been no better. Hopefully they'll surprise us at E3 2018.

I take that to be issues with the developers of the software on the consoles, not an issue with the hardware. What I wanted to hear and didn’t was a review on UHD playback in comparison to stand alone players.

I am getting power and games for each console I own. Sucks if you have a limited mindset where you think a console will only provide one or the other.

Nah, same goes for PS4 Pro, no true exclusive seen on that horizon.

If I dust off my PS4 I can play all games the Pro can.

I Like the XboneX emits little noice , was my main concern.

Wired review is the best one, if you evaluate the console just from a hardware point of view a 9/10 score could be the right one just because it's price compared to other consoles , but 7/10 fits well since the lack of great exclusive games are the problem.

I am afraid by the moment XboneX gets some heat and good exclusives PS5 will be near....

Ah one more thing as far as I know not a single review tested FreeSync did they? That's disappointing to be honest, I'd have expected Digital Foundry to test that....

Richard from DF said they will be testing FreeSync but they just haven't had a chance to yet.

Yeah I read that part on the digital foundry verdict. Still I'm disappointed as it's one of the main things I was interested in finding out about.

Depending how the support works I may be tempted to buy the new Samsung HDR10 FreeSync 2 monitor, but I won't be doing that until I know what happens.

I've got a freesync monitor, that supports freesync by hdmi, so I guess I'll see if there's any support on Tuesday.

They both are half assed mid gen refresh hamstrung with Jaguar

As soon as a ryzen console comes out, all those 30 FPS games could be 60 FPS developer allowing.

A ryzen based console will make Pro and Xb1X obsolete day 1.

Yeah the cpu is the biggest let down for me personally. Gears of War really highlights it, at 1080p where performance tends to be more reliant on the cpu, the drops from 60fps are quite jarring. Freesync support would be ideal in situations like that though.

Had MS included a different more powerful cpu it would have been something really special. I'm probably in a minority but I'd have paid another 100 for a better cpu.

This is what the Pro should have been, not a half assed mid gen refresh

One day consoles will run Witcher 3 and the like at 60 FPS, and it will be a good day. Hopefully 2019, we have waited too long already/

If I had the disposable income to upgrade to every console I would. But I'm happy with og xb1 and PS4. I'll wait until the new gen for major upgrade.

Lol @ putting other hardware/games down.

I have a pro, but I am so tempted to buy this.
But barely touch my S...

Sell your S and some other crap you don't need anymore. That's what I'm doing to make it more affordable. It's going to be $200 for me after selling my S and a few games I'm done with.

Very interesting to hear that 4k UHD playback is noticeably improved along with HDR. I use my Xbox One S mostly for UHD and didn’t expect any upgrades.
