This is a game that has been sitting in my backlog for forever, and I'm glad I got around to it. Full disclosure, I'm very inexperienced as far as turn based RPG's go. I often get overwhelmed with the complexity of it all, and I typically don't have the patience to learn the nuances to be successful. This game was recommended to me due to its simplicity, and it fit my needs perfectly. The combat system is self explanatory, the weapon upgrades are easy enough, inventory management was a non-issue - it was just very accessible. I would imagine some experienced RPG's players being a bit disenchanted with everything that I'm noting, but I enjoyed it. One thing that I was a bit disappointed in though was the fact that there really wasn't a reason to play as any character aside from your created player and Butters. I didn't even play as Cartman or Stan until the very end of the game, which I found strange. I would have liked the game to have implemented them a bit more. The story itself was classic South Park - you either like it or you don't. I felt like I was watching an extended episode the entire time. There were a few laugh out loud moments that really got me. I found myself wondering how the writers get away with the things they say, and this game definitely pushed the boundaries of the ESRB rating system. While I found it funny most of the time, there was an extreme emphasis on ass-related humor. It got a little bit stale toward the ending.

While I did enjoy my time with the game overall, I recognize that I didn't play anything ground breaking in terms of game play. It's a solid little turn-based RPG that actually would serve as a great introduction to anyone new to the genre.

My Score:
8.5/10

Yeah ok, I'm off to a good start so let's try this out.

1: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition (Xbox One X) - [From 0% to 100% 1550/1550 achievements]
4th time buying it, first time playing it. Will go back one day for a relaxed run with mods. Great game, but too many damn dragons killing the townsfolk.

2: Halo 5: Guardians (Xbox One X) - [Campaign on normal]
First time playing it, and glad I waited cuz it looks beautiful in 4K. Had a blast in the campaign. Felt good to be back. It wasn't until the end and looking back that I understood what all the complaints were about.

3: Blue Reflection (PS4 Pro) - [Full story on easy]
Art style, characters, music and all that are amazing, but the combat sucks. Story is pretty good, and thankfully it had a satisfying ending for me. Almost had a Platinum for it but I missed some item needed and can't get them late in the game. Yes, I bought the $80 Season Pass.

4: L.A. Noire (Xbox One X) - [Full story]
Very cool game, long too. Missed this one last gen so the remaster was nice. Man I'm not good at being a detective or an ace attorney, but I still like playing them. Biggest takeaway is just how detailed the world is. Wish they could have reused it for another game or something. It's got problems for sure, but way more good than bad. I'll be revisiting it off and on to get 100% out of it.

5: Wolfenstein: The New Order (Xbox One X) - [Campaign on normal]
Wow, really surprised by how good this is and how good it looks. Not sure how much the X is helping, but it looks pretty darn good for a 2014 Xbox One game. Loved the cutscenes and the action flying scenes. The music is Über! Looking forward to the next two in the series.

6: Final Fantasy Type-0 HD (Xbox One X) - [Campaign on easy]
I love it! Yes there is a lot of bad stuff with this game but there is plenty of good stuff to make up for it. I like the 12 unique characters all with their own fighting style and weapons. I like the story and I guess more of the story is revealed via new game+ so I'll have to revisit it again someday. The music is top tier! There's even a Halo like moment in the game with epic music and constant fighting on the way to a destination. I'll take a cheap shot at XV and say Type-0 is way better. In a really good mood after beating this. BTW, only 5.49% have the achievement for beating the game on Xbox One.

7: Unravel (Xbox One X) - [Full playthrough]
It was good. Not really my normal style of game but it was short and sweet. I liked the snow levels and watching Yarny die.

8: Ben-Hur (Xbox One X) - [Full race season]
Padding my list with this free game, as I'm falling a bit behind. It has three (3) chariot races which can be completed in around 15 minutes. I got 475/1000 achievements in those 15 minutes. It's a dumb free movie tie in advertisement game, but still... wrecking fools on chariots is fun.

9: A Kingdom for Keflings (Xbox One X) - [200/200 achievements]
It's a cute resource management / city builder game where you play as your Xbox Avatar. Always wanted to play it and now thanks go Game Pass I have. Also, thanks to Game Pass, there were people playing online even in an old game like this. So I was able to get the multiplayer achievements as well.

10: 10 Second Ninja X (Xbox One X) - [Full story + legacy levels 1 star]
Played it because it was first on the list for Game Pass (alphabetically). I thought it would be too hard for me but I managed to get the hang of it, my thumb is pretty sore though. It was a fun game with some funny dialogue.

11: Kingdom: New Lands (Xbox One X) - [1000/1000 achievements]
Simple and addictive with just enough challenge to keep things interesting. Pretty cool concept for a side scrolling, pixel art, strategy game.

12: Amped 3 (Xbox 360) - [1000/1000 achievements]
I got this bad idea to play 360 launch titles, so I bought them all! Most are not BC for X1 yet, so I got them from eBay. Amped 3 is a fun and dumb snowboarding game. They put a lot of work into cutscenes with animation or action figures but most of them were really bad. Still, it was ridiculous fun and looked good on a 4K TV.

13: Madden NFL 06 (Xbox 360) - [1000/1000 achievements]
Another 360 launch game and my first time playing Madden lol. Easy 1000G! Turn off off-sides and run over to their quarterback before he even gets the football. Surprisingly good rock soundtrack!

14: Super Night Riders (Xbox One X) - [1000/1000 achievements]
Motorcycle game with mobile graphics enhanced for Xbox One X. Dodge the bikes to reach the checkpoints before time runs out kind of deal. Not worth more than a few $$, having only a few hours of gameplay.

15: The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit (Xbox One X) - [100%]
Does this even count? Played through twice and did everything I could find to do. (Had to look up some of the secrets). Got me interested in playing the Life is Strange series soon.

16: Final Fantasy XIII (Xbox 360) - [Full Story]
I hard quit this game before finishing it when it first came out and never looked back. Then, out of nowhere, I felt Lightning calling out to me. So I bought a brand new, sealed, never opened copy for a low price. It smelled good opening it. Going through it all these years later I really appreciate how much detail they put into all their levels. Even the smallest room had so much work put into it. FFXV looks so barren and basic in comparison due to the open world. I hope in the next FF they can bring back more of this detail into their world. Glad I gave it a second chance.

17: Railway Empire (Xbox One X) - [President rating on campaign]
This game sucked me in hard. It has a steep learning curve but it's fun while learning. It just really scratched the strategy/administration game itch. Still quite a few scenarios and an expansion to come back for later.

18: Forza Horizon (Xbox One X) - [Full story on hard]
Finally getting around to Forza Horzion. So nice that they enhanced this for X even though it's not available for digital purchase. Feels bad that I can't get the dlc and expansions. Can't even buy from the custom paint store. Oh well, it was still fun. I'll come back to get 100% of what's available offline casually. Got 2,3 and 4 waiting too.

19: Gears of War 4 (Xbox One X) - [Full story on normal]
Another solid Gears game that looks great on the X. I heard some mixed reviews on this but it might be my favorite one of all. Lots of cool moments and scenic views.

20: Beyond Eyes (Xbox One X) - [Full story]
This game really made me appreciate the sprint button in other games. I guess it helped to make it's point and show a little of what it's like to be blind. Slow game but with a cute story.

21: Red Dead Redemption (Xbox One X) - [Full story]
Quite nice to have my first playthrough be enhanced in 4K. Great game but I had expected more after hearing all the impressions over the years from people who loved it.

22: Forza Horizon 4 (Xbox One X) - [All races of all types complete]
This is one solid and addictive racer. I think I like the wheelspin prizes even more than the actual racing. It's a 9.0+ out of 10 for sure but I can't help but look back and compare it to Test Drive: Unlimited 2, which still has a ton of features that should be apart of the Horizon games by now.

23: MechaNika (Xbox One X) - [Full story]
Very short but sweet adventure game with a twisted sense of humor and full explicit cartoon (vagina) nudity. Wish it was longer. Will go back again one day to get the rest of the secrets.

24: Life is Strange - Episode 1: Chrysalis (Xbox One X) - [Full chapter]
Yep it's as fun as everyone says it is. Taking my time and taking lots of screenshots. Gonna count the chapters because my list is pathetic.

25: God of War (PS4 Pro) - [Full story]
My personal GOTY from what I've played this year. I put it down not long after release but came back to it and really enjoyed the ride. Could have been better with more enemy variety. Will come back one day to 100%.

26: Life is Strange - Episode 2: Out of Time (Xbox One X) - [Full chapter]
Still taking it slow and playing chapters in between other games. This one was a bit better than the first. I got the other games in the series waiting for me though so I can't go too slow.

27: Lies of Astaroth (Xbox One X) - [No ending]
Free card game on with anime art style. It was really fun until hitting that inevitable pay wall. I couldn't keep up with the progression without spending cash. At one point I had all the levels beat on 1 star but they added more and more since then.

28: PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS (Xbox One X) - [Multiplayer - Solo]
Put in plenty of hours to count this. Not one chicken dinner tough *sigh*. Nothing is more exciting than being in the top 3. Not into Fortnite because of the graphics style so this is my royal game with cheese.

28: League of Legends (PC) - [Multiplayer - ARAM]
This game probably has logged hours than any others this year. I don't play the main mode just ARAM (All Random All Mid). It's just a dumb fight mode, good for drinking a beer and a shouting a little trash talk at the other team. RIP Dominion.

GG 2018, I have failed you.

Currently Playing:
Dragon Quest XI (PS4 Pro)
Forza Horizon 4 (Xbox One X)
League Of Legends (PC)

I'm gonna use this post to reserve my spot, hopefully I'll be able to finish a decent amount of games this year (If I can't hit 52 games I'm hoping to at least complete 30 games) compared to last year (I finished about 15 games)

Game #1 - Tekken 7 (PS4)
Playtime: 6+ hrs, beat story mode and all the "Character Episodes" on 1/10/18
I've been a long time fan of the Tekken series (I started with the first 2 games in the series back in 98) and overall I did enjoy this entry (personally I'd rank it up there behind Tekken 3, Tag Tournament, & 5 which are my all time favorite games in the series) even though I do feel that the game's "Story" mode could have used some more work given how this was hyped as the end of the "Mishima Saga. Speaking of which I gotta say I was kinda disappointed in the game's story mainly because there were imo a few important gaps in the game's story some of which are quickly glossed over with a throw away line like
how Akuma came to be indebted to Kazumi, etc. also I consider Jin to be a part of the Mishima Saga and for most of the story he's in a coma and he has no impact at all on the final fight between Hiehachi & Kazuya which imo is lame cause I thought this game was supposed to end this whole saga
. One thing that I do love is that they pretty much included all the cinematics & artwork for all the previous Tekken games (except for Revolution & Tag Tournament 2, probably because they don't really move the series main "storyline" along) for you to unlock

UPDATE: Ended up going back to this game after playing Assassin's Creed Origins (mostly as a "palette cleanser" since I'm planning on playing RDR 2 for the first time) in order to check out some of the new DLC characters and in the process ended up Platinuming the game making it the 5th one this year.

Game # 2 - Call of Duty: WW2 (PS4)
Playtime - 6 to 7 hrs for Single Player Campaign which was finished on 1/10/18 & 36+ hrs for Online multiplayer/Zombies Mode
The single player campaign for this game was meh and outside of the HQ area the online multiplayer is typical CoD. As for the Zombies mode, well I typically haven't played the mode a whole lot in previous entries (Outside of IW's Zombies mode where I've played multiple rounds on all 5 maps mainly because of the modes "horror movie"/Willard Wyler/"Celebrity Guest" bits I've really only played like 5 rounds in WaW, 5 rounds in Black Ops, & 3 rounds in Black Ops 2) mainly because I find the whole Easter Egg thing to be too either too obtuse/confusing/chore like (the maps for IW's Zombies Mode were imo the worst offenders) for me which made WW2 Zombies "Casual Easter Egg" all the more appealing to me (to date this is the only CoD Zombies mode where I've actually managed to "complete" a map's Easter Egg) not to mention the inclusion of David Tennant & Ving Rhames.

Game #3 - Wolfenstien II: The New Colossus (Xbox One)
Playtime: 16+ hrs, beat story mode (Furgus Timeline) on 1/15/18
I first started playing this back in November, but I got a little distracted so I figured it was time to go back and finish what I've started and overall I enjoyed the game just like I did with the first game. As for the "controversy" surrounding the game, well imo it's utter made up BS and at the same time I find it utter disgusting as the people who created this so called "controversy" are essentially sympathizing with Nazis a group know to any SANE person as being downright evil.

Game #4 - The Order 1886 (PS4)
Playtime: est 7 hrs, beat story mode on 1/17/18
Like Wolfenstien II: The New Colossus I started this game last year (I got it when it was on sale for like $5) and got a decent amount of progress before I took a break from the game. Since I was snowed in I figured now would be as good a time as any to go back and finish it. Overall the game wasn't too bad as I enjoyed the game's graphics and (imo) semi decent story premise though I wish the gameplay & overall controls were a little bit better ( the character felt like moving a tank at times) as it felt like the game couldn't decide what it wanted to be a cover shooter or a action QTE simulator.

Game #5 - Infamous: First Light (PS4)
Playtime: est 5+hrs, beat story mode on 2/7/18
I first started playing this game back before Christmas 2016 (I had just gotten a PS4 and heard about it being region free so I decided to import the physical version of this game to test it out) and got about half way through it when I got distracted by another game I had just gotten for the PS4, CoD IW w/MW Remastered. Now my initial feeling being "eh" (not great, but not bad either) and after finishing this game I pretty much still felt the same way. Anyways the reason I had decided it was time to go back and finish this game was because I had been thinking about possibly delving into Infamous: Second Son, but I think I'll try to finish a few (3 to 4) more games in my backlog before tackling it.

Game #6 - Injustice 2 (PS4)
Playtime: Est 8+, beat story mode on 2/18/18
I enjoyed the first Injustice game (I own 2 copies of the game, one on the Wii U and the Ultimate Edition on PS4) and I gotta say this game didn't disappoint me either as I had a blast playing through this game (I even went out and bought the Season Pass for the game after playing it for a few hours) especially when I started messing around with a few of the DLC Characters such as the TMNT & Hellboy. I especially love how each game that Neatherrealm Studios has put out since Mortal Kombat 9 (aka Mortal Kombat 2010) has continued to improve in some aspect be it with the story mode or by adding nice little touches (like Character specific insults uttered at the beginning of each match) that make you geek out/add to the experience.

Game #7 - Castlevania 64 (N64)
Playtime: 6 +hrs, beat on normal difficulty with Schnieder on 3/14/18
For the longest time I was not a fan of this game and when I'd occasionally find myself playing it I'd only do so for about 10 mins due to the controls as well as my dislike of the N64's "Trident" controller. Because of that I never really bothered to play past the main boss for Stage 1/Level 1 and honestly had no interest what so ever in playing past that point. So what made me change my mind and play all the way through it? Well last summer I ended up becoming a backer for a Kickstarter project by a company called Retro Fighters whose goal was to bring & release a "modern" redesigned N64 controller. As somone who hates the OG N64 controller, but wants to playthrough the system's catalog of games backing this project was a no brainer. Well the controller finally arrived and one of the game's I ended up playing while putting the controller through it's paces was Castlevania 64 and shockingly enough for the first time in a very long time (Spring 2004 when I picked up the game, Mario 64, Goldeneye 007, a memory card & an N64 at an EB Games for about $60) I actually found myself wanting to play all the way through the game. Now I don't know if it was because of the new controller or not, but I actually liked playing this game (so much so I'm actually contemplating going back and beating it with Carrie) and outside of one area (with the mine carts down in the mines) I didn't have any of the issues (like the bit with the Nitro & Mandragora) that many have described as reasons to hate on this game. In fact I can now see how/why this game got an 8 out of 10 from Gamepro back in the day as it's also now got me curious in checking out Legacy of Darkness as well.

Game #8 - Metroid: Samus Returns (3DS)
Playtime: 14.5 hrs, 100% completion Normal Difficulty on 3/25/18
I bought this game earlier this year because I had played (but not beaten) the original Metroid 2 (I bought the 3DS VC version about 5 years ago) and was curious to see what kind of improvements they made. Overall I really enjoyed the game (though it's not as good as Super Metriod & Metroid Fusion imo) as they imo made quite a few good improvements as well as one (imo) crappy one (the deflect/block mechanic) that I honestly wish they hadn't forced into the game just for the sake of "modernization".

Game #9 - Yakuza 6: The Song of Life (PS4)
Playtime: 39 hrs, 100%Trophy Completion, Normal Difficulty on 4/23/18
This game was the second Yakuza game I've played so far (the first one being Yakuza Kiwami which I beat last year) and I enjoyed it so much it became the first game in about 4 years that I've gone through the trouble of getting the Platinum Trophy for.

Game #10 - Rayman Legends (PS4)
Playtime: 15 + hrs, 100% completion of the Legends & Origins worlds, Normal Difficulty on 5/16/18
Overall I really like this game (enough to have tried completing it on 2 different systems) though I still feel that the Wii U version is the superior version of this game and would recommend that version over the others.

Game #11 - Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon (Steam/3DS)
Playtime: 5+ hrs, got the normal ending playing on Veteran difficulty on the PC version of the game on 5/25/18
This game is imo a love letter to the NES Castlevania games as well as 8 bit action platformers and as a fan of both I really enjoyed my temporary playthrough of this game on the PC (I was a backer for RotN who had selected the console version for this game, but due to a big snafu was one of the backers given a temporary Steam code so that I could still play the game on launch) so much so that once I get my 3DS code for the game I plan on trying to 100% complete it.

Game #12 - Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 (Steam)
Playtime: 16+ hrs, finished the game on Normal Difficulty on 5/28/18
As a fan of the first Lords of Shadow game I was really hyped for this game when it was first announced, but after hearing all the negativity surrounding the game once it came out as well as my disappointment in the then 3DS exclusive Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate I decided to skip this game. A few years ago I decided to pick it up (along with all the DLC) during a Steam sale for about $6 and after playing it for about an hour or so I gave up on it due to the forced stealth sections not to mention my PC had some issues running the game. Well after revisiting Castlevania 64 and essentially loving it due to the Brawler 64 controller (not to mention having recently upgraded my PC) I decided to give this game another go. Overall I still don't care too much for this game outside of the game's story and art/graphic designs (the artwork in this game is imo stunning) as I found myself essentially having to brute force my way through sections as the dodging mechanic wasn't responsive at times (I can't tell you how many times I died from a hit despite perfectly timing my block/dodge) which led to more than a few cheap deaths and some frustration.

Game# 13 - Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 (PS4)
Playtime: 10+ hrs in Multiplayer and approx 2 hrs in Single Player, hit the 10 hr mark on 6/17/18
Got this game via PS Plus during E3 and ended up sinking at least 10 hours into the game's multiplayer mode (I even had an epic match where I went 28-3) as well as about 2 hrs into the game's single player mode (the story didn't really grab me so I didn't bother finishing it)

Game #14 - Momadora: Reverie Under the Moonlight (PS4)
Playtime: Est 5-6 hrs, finished the game twice once with the bad ending then a second time for the True Ending on 6/18/18
Got this game via Limited Run Games as I am a fan of "Metroidvania" style games and overall I felt it was an okay game (wasn't bad, but also didn't blow me away) for what it was.

Game #15 - Crash Bandicoot Remastered (Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, PS4)
Playtime: Est 13 hrs, Collected all 26 Gems to get the hidden path needed to get the hidden ending on 7/3/18
I've been playing this version of Crash 1 on & off since picking the N.Sane Trilogy at launch (mainly because I wanted to take my sweet time with it & enjoy it) and is one of the game's that I'm looking to 100% complete as I really enjoyed the original Crash 1. Overall I'm currently 13 time trials and one boss fight away reaching that goal so once I've done that I'll be moving on to the sequel Crash 2.

Game #16 - Star Wars: Podracer Revenge (PS4)
Playtime: Est 6-7 hrs, Completed Tournament Mode, winning every race as Anikin Skywaker on 7/4/18

Game #17 - MegaMan X (MegaMan X Legacy Collection Vol.1, Xbox One)
Playtime: Est 5+ hrs, 100% Completed (all armor, heart tanks, secret weapon, & game specific achievements) on 7/29/18
A few years back I played and beat this game for the very first time (I thoroughly enjoyed it), but at the time I didn't bother to 100% complete it. Well since I recently picked up the Mega Man X Legacy Collection Vol.1 I decided that I was gonna attempt to 100% every game in the collection starting with this game.

Game #18 - MegaMan X2 (MegaMan X Legacy Collection Vol.1, Xbox One)
Playtime: Est 6+ hrs, 100% Completed (all armor, heart tanks, secret weapon, & game specific achievements) on 7/30/18
This was the first time I sat down to play this game despite owning it as part of the X Anniversary Collection on the PS2. Overall trying to 100% complete this game was (for me at least) very rage inducing esepcially when going for the game's secret weapon (the Shryouken) which required at least 50 attempts (half of which ended up being for naught and required me to go back to the drawing board before reattempting) due to the strict requirements that need to be met in order to get it.

Game #19 - The Mummy Demastered (PS4)
Playtime: 6 hrs 11 mins, 100% Completed on 8/22/18
I had heard about this game being pretty decent (aka better than the movie it's based on) so I decided to pick this up a few months ago when it went on sale on the PSN store and overall it was not bad & not good, just okay. Given the size and style (metroidvania) I decided to 100% complete it, making it the second game this year that I've managed to get a platinum trophy for.

Game # 20 - Shenmue (PS4)
Playtime: Est 13+ hrs, story completed & 100% trophy completion on 8/26/18
Just finished my first ever playthrough of Shenmue and my initial thoughts are that while there were parts I enjoyed (mainly the story elements, weather effects, & combat) there were also a few parts that I felt didn't age too well such as the control for the in game camera (which I gotta say kinda sucked) and the voice acting which was really awful (we're talking cringe inducing levels) at times. Though I will say that this game marks the 3rd game that I've obtained the Platinum trophy for this year (the other 2 being Yakuza 6 & The Mummy Demastered) which in and of itself is a rarity for me given that it had been 4 years since obtaining my last Platinum trophy.

Game #21 - Friday the 13th: The Game (PS4)
Playtime: Est 20+ hrs online by 10/20/18
I played the fuck out of this game on the Xbox One last year so when it became free for PS+ subscribers last month (October) I ended up jumping back into the game and just like with the Xbox One version I ended up putting more than my fair share of time into it.

Game #22 - Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (PS4, via Castlevania Requiem collection)
Playtime: Est 12 hrs, story completed & 100% trophy completion on 11/1/18
Symphony of the Night is one of my all time favorite video games (this is like the 5th time I've bought this game since 1998) and every couple of years I'll do what I consider to be a completionist run of the game (200.6% completion, get all relics, see all 4 endings, and beat the game as both Alucard & Richter) so when I picked up this version (I mainly got CV Requiem for Rondo of Blood, since I've never played it before but SotN was imo a nice little bonus :p) I knew I had to do a completionist run especially considering this version added trophies to the game. Well I ended up do just that and while I am disappointed that this is not the OG PS1 release (all the classic bits are now gone and the whole game has been re-dubbed) and felt that some of the trophies were a real pain in the @$$ to get (such as Get the Crissagrim & Buy the Duplicator) though I will say that I was pleasantly surprised to find out that in this version of SotN you can actually play as Maria (using the same method used to play as Richter) once you've beaten the game.

Game #23 - Castlevania: Rondo of Blood (PS4, via Castlevania Requiem collection
Playtime: Est 7 hrs. Story completed, in game 100% completion, & 100% trophy completion on 11/5/18
I went into this game having not played it before and outside of some real pain in the ass moments/game design choices (mainly in Alternate Stage 5, Stage 6, & Stage 7) I enjoyed playing this game. So much so that I ended up 100% completing this game along with SotN, which in the process netted me my 4th Platinum trophy of the year (the others being Yakuza 6, The Mummy Demastered, & Shenmue) and only my 7th Platinum trophy (in 8 years, which is when I got my PS3) overall.

Game #24 - Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite (PS4)
Playtime: Est 7 hrs (overall), story 100% completed on 11/7/18
I picked this game up earlier this year while it was on sale ($30 for the steelbook version) cause I'm a big fan of fighting games and wanted to give this one a fair shake even though it removed my favorite aspect (X-Men Charaters) from the game this time around. Now I had first started playing through the game back in March, but quickly lost interest in it before moving on to "better" games (Metroid: Samus Returns), well earlier today I decided it was time to finally tackle the game's story mode and I gotta say it was utterly forgettable, not to mention short (took me roughly 3 hrs to be it)

Game #25 - MLB: The Show 16 (PS4)
Playtime: Est 10+ hrs, Road to the Show mode on 11/9/18
Bought this game a few months after getting my PS4 (so around Jan 2017) and had played a decent amount of the game when I got it, but never really bothered buying the newer games (17 & 18) so when my team won the World Series this year I ended up getting an itch to play a baseball game so I popped this game in intending to play a few games before stepping away. Unfortunately I made the mistake of jumping into the Road to the Show mode and ended up getting sucked back in for about 10 hrs (I even started a second RTTS save so I have one for a First Baseman/DH and one for a Starting Pitcher)

Game #26 - Assassin's Creed Origins (PS4)
Playtime: Est 34+ hrs, Story mode completed on 11/13/18
I had bought this earlier in the year while it was on sale for $30 and ended up putting in about 20 hrs before taking a break to play other games. So after getting sucked back into MLB the Show I decided it was time to return to this game and finish it up thinking I was about 4-5 hrs away from beating it. Well those 4 - 5 hrs turned to at least 14 hrs (minimum) as I got sucked into trying to semi complete the game's map, hidden tombs, & random trophies.

Game #27 - Luigi's Mansion (3DS)
Playtime: Est 5+hrs, story mode on normal difficulty w/all portrait ghosts & portrait ghosts captured as well as 71,000g and a B ranking on 11/21/18
I first played & beat this game on the Gamecube about 10 years ago (I think I ended up beating it with 22 portrait ghosts & 48 boos getting a D rank( so I was thrilled to hear that it was getting a semi remake/port to the 3DS. Well a few days ago I got it for my b-day and wasted no time digging back into it. My only complaint (so far, I plan on doing the Hidden Mansion mode aka Hard Mode, later so that might bring up some more complaints) is that I was not a big fan of the 3DS control scheme for this game and on more than a few occasion accidentally hit the power button closing the game mid boss fight.

Game #28 - Shadow of the Tomb Raider (Xbox One)
Playtime: Est 24+ hrs, finished story mode on normal difficulty w/all collectables & challenge tombs found on 11/28/18
I picked this up as part of Black Friday mainly because I am a long time fan of the Tomb Raider series and I had yet to play this entry in the series. Overall it was a pretty good game though I honestly didn't like it as much as I did the previous 2 games in the series mainly because the big battle with Trinity that the previous game (Rise of the Tomb Raider) was hinting at didn't really come about in the way I expected and honestly kinda sucked.

Game #29 - God of War: Chains of Olympus (PS3)
Playtime: Est 6 -7 hrs, finished story mode on normal difficulty on 12/10/18
About 2 years ago I finally managed to pick up the 2012 God Of War Saga collection (been meaning to pick it up since the day it was released) with the intention of playing through the 2 PSP God of War games as well as revisiting God of War 3 before diving into God of War Ascension (figured I needed a refresher since it had been about 5 years since I'd played a GoW game) and shortly after playing the opening segments of Chains of Olympus & Ghost of Sparta I got sidetracked with another game. Well I finally got around to revisiting this game and overall it's a pretty solid game though a bit rough around the edges (I even encountered an endgame game glitch that prevented you from reaching the final boss fight, but it wasn't game breaking and I was able to find a way through) though for it originally being a PSP game it's not too bad.

Game #30 - God of War: Ghost of Sparta (PS3)
Playtime: Est 5-6 hrs, finished story mode on normal difficulty on 12/10/18
After beating Chains of Olympus I figured I should go back and also finish Ghost of Sparta while I was at it. It's kinda disappointing to learn that this game came out after Chains of Olympus and yet it seemed to be inferior to Chains of Olympus as it both visually & gameplay wise seemed to be missing things/mechanics found in Chains of Olympus.

JANUARY - 6 Games

Game #01 - Super Mario Odyssey \ 10/10
Playtime: 14:00 hours l Beat on Jan. 1st l Nintendo Switch
This was my first Mario game in more than a decade. It felt really nostalgic and very innovative at the same time, which is always nice at this day and age. Almost all Kingdoms were amazingly designed and a joy to explore. I'll definitely get back to this to collect some more moons here and there. Also, the final minutes were extremely fun and very memorable for sure.

Game #02 - Steamworld Dig \ 7/10
Playtime: 05:20 hours l Beat on Jan. 1st l Playstation Vita
It felt very fitting for a handheld. Don't know how it is on PC but it definitely was very enjoyable on the Vita. It's very simplistic. You dig, you collect, you upgrade, you progress. Nothing else needed for this to be an enjoyable experience.

Game #03 - Another Adventure \ 5/10
Playtime: 01:00 hour l Beat on Jan. 1st l PC/Steam
I had my eye on this since it came out. It isn't anything special by any means but based on its' artwork I expected a humorous, shut off your brain type experience - which is needed once in a while, you know. It's just 2 €, so the time it took to beat it was fine. It wasn't the funny experience I anticipated but rather thought provoking kinda. It's 4 Chapters long and looks at 4 different characters who struggle, mostly in relation to any kind of artistic work.

Game #04 - Infamous: Second Son \ 8/10
Playtime: 15:00 hours l Beat on Jan. 3rd l Playstation 4
Very fun open world game. The concept art of this one is beautiful, the recreation of Seattle is very well done in my opinion. The orange and blue environments make for a good mix of color and the stencil art Delsin performs looks great every time. Sure, it's a collect-a-thon, if you want to complete it (as I did). Sure, it's repetitive tasks. But it was fun. The gameplay was very well done to make these tasks enjoyable. Where this game stands out is in its voice acting and motion capture. Great facials and voices that actually fit what's going on, which often is done poorly in video games. The story isn't actually bad but of course nothing too memorable. Overall, this game is good fun but doesn't do anything extraordinary besides the character models - and that is enough.

Game #05 - Persona 4: Dancing All Night \ 7/10
Playtime: 11:30 hours l Beat on Jan. 5th l Playstation Vita
Beat the story mode. The Persona series has a lot of cringy dialogue. It's true. For me, the games have enough charm that I can look past those moments and actually sigh in a positive way about it. The Persona games are some of my favorites of all time after all. P4 DAN had a lot more of that, the basic premise of the story being that you can fight shadows by expressing yourself through dancing. It worked with the story but it took a lot of getting used to. Looking past that, the rhythm gameplay was a lot of fun and I'll make sure to keep playing this and unlock the special chapter.

Game #06 - Splatoon 2 \ 7/10
Playtime: 08:00 hours l Beat on Jan. 7th l Nintendo Switch
For whatever reason my prior post is messed up and I couldn't edit it anymore. This is going to be my main post and I'll just put seperate posts going forward. My long recap got deleted, so I'll just say that I finished singleplayer and didn't like the level design. Gameplay is very unique though and I'll continue playing multiplayer.

Reserving a space. Got pretty close last year at 44 games. Maybe this year. Already beat 1.

1) Resident Evil 5 - PC (6/10)
Really huge drop off in quality from RE 4. They focused too much on action in this one, as opposed to survival horror. Every second of RE 4 was a struggle to get through, but because of that it was constantly rewarding. RE 5 was too easy. I never felt the tension and relief cycle of 4. Also, in RE 4 the story was silly but again, it almost served as comic relief from the gameplay. In RE5, the story was just silly. On its own though (i.e. not comparing it to one of the best games of all time), it's ok.

2) Oxenfree - PC (7/10)
Loved the art style and writing in this one. The characters reacted to their situation the way someone would actually react in today's world with all the sci-fi and horror movies that exist now. They immediately understood what was happening pretty much, or at least generally what was happening. There wasn't a lot of "this is so weird WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON" from them. Also, the characters were generally likeable and I connected to them. The problem with this game is the problem with most "choice" games. I'm unsatisfied with my ending, and that leaves an air of feeling like I played the game "wrong," which is strange in a story driven game. This is why Life is Strange is perfect. It gives the player a greater satisfaction with each of their choices by letting them know the consequences. Thus, the player actually has a greater sense of agency in the story.

3) Overwatch - PC (10/10)
Been putting a lot of time into this one with the competitive season coming up.

In Progress:
Black Mesa - PC
Divinity: Original Sin II - PC

1) Refunct
2) Hidden Folks
3) Gears of War: Ultimate Edition (First time playing Gears 1)

1h-ish. Finished everything (not that there's a lot to finish)

Funny bite-sized VN which is funnier if you know about 419 scams. Has a certain neat twist near the end which makes me wish the creator made it longer. Not much in the way of choices though.

My Score: ★★★☆☆

Game #07 - PSYCHO-PASS: Mandatory Happiness \ 6/10
Playtime: No Time Recorded - Around 06:00 hours l Beat on Jan. 10th l Playstation Vita
To clarify, I'm not a fan of visual novels. It's just reading. I love reading books and I love reading a ton in RPG's but there has to be something else to keep me motivated. A visual novel done well is Doki Doki, where you have this big twist and a meta story that can only be experienced in games. PSYCHO-Pass was free on PS+, so I gave it a try anyway. I have to say, I actually liked it. The setting was very intriguing to me. Basically, your path gets pre-chosen in life and your happiness and crime level is being monitored by what's called the Sibyl System. That way, if you are seen as someone who could possibly be criminal, you'll get executed or put into a social rehab facility of some sort. The system is extremely flawed but it's something the real world might see at some point, so I liked it. Gameplay? None at all. Story? It's alright. Soundtrack? Pretty good. Yeah, try it out if you like VNs.

Game #08 - Bastion \ 6.5/10
Playtime: 05:30 hours l Beat on Jan. 13th l PC/Steam
The narrator in this game is great, it made Bastion a pretty unique experience. The gameplay is fun for what it is but I couldn't really get into it as much as I wanted to. Got bored close to the end, so I'm glad it's a short game.

Game #09 - Cuphead \ 10/10
Playtime: 15:00 hours l Beat on Jan. 15th l PC/Steam
I've spent 3 hours on this with my brother, before he decided to quit. Restarted on my own and managed to beat it in a 12-hour playthrough. Absolutely loved this game. The artwork here is perfectly matched with the games' theme. It looks fun, nostalgic and has just been very well made. The gameplay is simple enough to understand and very hard to master, with incredibly fun boss fights challenging you each time. I seriously would call this perfect it it wasn't for a few design choices I didn't agree with (the final world) and the very few times were I could not not get hit because the game put me in impossible positions. Almost any other time, it's you who is responsible for your deaths. The game is very fair, very responsive and gives you the tools to overcome any challenge. Definitely try this out.

Will take part this year and edit post accordingly.
quick and dirty post: currently playing Witcher 3, Danganronpa 2 and hopefully getting P5 soon. I see Mankind Divided is free on PS+, might have to look into that.

Disclaimer: I have never played the original Half-Life. But Half-Life 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. I love the atmosphere of Half-Life 2 and this game was very much in the same style. I actually think this might be a little better because it centers on one event, giving everything you do this sense of importance and urgency. However it lacks the characters of Half-Life 2 and you really have no attachment to anything. Every companion that follows you dies. I was also surprised to see that Dr. Kleiner and Eli don't really play any significant role in this game. If I were playing HL2 after this I would be confused when you are supposed to know Kleiner and Eli. But you still get the environmental puzzles and fantastic, realistic level design that I love about HL.

5) Transmissions: Element 120 -PC (7/10)
A HL2 Mod that has some inventive gameplay and atmospheric setpieces. Only takes about an hour though.

6) Half-Life 2: Lost Coast - PC (5/10)
This is like a deleted level or something from HL2. Definitely has some of the best art direction I've seen from Valve. The level is stunning. But the encounters here are really nothing you haven't seen before in a HL game. This might as well just be some pictures of the level.

16h-ish. Finished every sidequest I found, Anarchist route. Normal difficulty.

Tyranny is a very compact, self-contained game, which was if I'm not mistaken created as a tighter, shorter alternative to the mastodontic Pillars of Eternity. As such, it's not a long game by any means, but it's crammed of interesting NPCs, a believable bronze-age world, and with four routes with diametrically different choices it's quite replayable, as opposed to most games of its genre.

Plus it lets you play a villain, unlike most. If you have never played an old-style CRPG, make this the first.

1) Everybody's Gone To The Rapture - PS4 Pro (7/10)
Played this for an hour each evening, doing a different character chapter every night. It's an interesting game, though obviously falls more into the realm of a walking simulator with it's limited gameplay and interactivity. Enjoyed the story and exploring the environments though, gave me some real nostalgia to summer holidays in the English countryside with my grandparents way back when. Hopefully the Chinese Room can get out of their recent troubles and have the chance to make another title!

Abandoned:
The Division - Got up to level 20 playing a mixture of solo and with mates but couldn't take the cookie cutter third person shooting anymore, loved the environments and was intrigued by the setting and story but the gameplay got old fast.

In Progress:
Horizon Zero Dawn

Game #10 - Epistory: Typing Chronicles \ 7/10
Playtime: 04:45 hours l Beat on Jan. 22nd l PC/Steam
Typing games are underrated... well, probably not but I really like them. You basically type a word to destroy objects or kill enemies and I think the world building added nicely to that. Good soundtrack as well.

35h-ish. 78/78 sidestories. About 70% game completion.

I feel like every Yakuza game I "review" becomes a boring list of the reasons why I think Yakuza is the best game series ever. So instead of gushing about the good (which is basically everything) I'm just going to rant a bit about why I gave this game four stars instead of five.

And the single reason for that is Majima Everywhere. I mean, I get that after Majima's surge in popularity after Yakuza 0 they had to expand his role in the first game, which was basically being a mid-boss. And sure, at first it's awesome. "Oh Majima is so zany, he was inside of that traffic cone!" "Haha Majima wanted to play Mesuking!" "Zombie Majima is so funny!" and so on.

But after 15h, when you're just sidequesting a bit, you can't stop thinking "Let's see if I can get to my destination before Majima shows u-welp, there he is". And after you learn Tiger Drop, it becomes "Oh, hey Majima. Sure, I got 15 seconds to PKO you." At some point, a good 50% of all the game's fights are vs Majima. This is not a good thing and reduces engagement with the game sharply.

If it wasn't for Majima Everywhere, this will be an easy 5 star for me, because it's a Yakuza. I just hope Majima Everywhere does not come back for Kiwami 2.

My Score: ★★★★☆

Game #02 - Life is Strange: Before the Storm (PS4) Playtime: 8.5 hours | Beaten 1/14/2018
The first game had one of my favorite gaming soundtracks of all time. I've always enjoyed listening to the OST for some of my favorites games (Final Fantasy being an obvious example) so I had high hopes for Before the Storm. I felt that things started off a bit slow and I was wondering if some of the magic of the first game was lost, but I enjoyed going through the journey. I'd still recommend the first game over this one.

Game #03 - SteamWorld Dig 2 (PS Vita) Playtime: 7.5 hours | Beaten 1/18/2018
I played SteamWorld Dig last year (free from PS+) and was very excited to see that the sequel was coming out shortly thereafter. There were a lot of improvements made and the world is obviously much bigger, but I still felt (as with Life is Strange) that the first was a more enjoyable experience the first-time through. Having also played SteamWorld Heist last year, I know that is a game that I would love to see a sequel. I'm now a huge fan of Image & Form Games and would happily purchase any future titles based on their excellent track record.

Currently playing:
Middle-Earth: Shadow of War (PS4)
Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle (Nintendo Switch)

16h-ish. "Bring'em On" difficulty. Defeated all Commanders I could find, but didn't continue in the postgame.

Like the first game and Doom, Wolfenstein II has near-perfect gunplay. The shooting is so satisfying and you can "adapt" the game to your own style - I tended to stealth as much as I could, to kill Commanders before I was seen, but if I felt the situation was good to go guns blazing, then I could do that and still feel totally awesome about it.

On the other side, the setting is completely pulp, the characters range from "Forgettable" to "Insufferable" (god, how I wanted to strangle Grace for most of the game). But God, you can kill giant robot dogs in a Nazi space base in Venus. If that doesn't sound like the perfect videogame to you, you have no soul.

My Score: ★★★★

4) Black Mesa - PC (9/10)

7) Portal - PC (8/10)
Yearly playthrough. As you can probably tell, I just got a PC, and The Orange Box was on sale for like $2 on Steam. So, obviously it was a sign I should play Portal.

8) Dragonball FighterZ - PC (8/10)
This is a pretty fun and easy to pick up fighting game. Rammed through the fairly dumb story in a day but I'm still playing a good amount of multiplayer. Everything in this game is so satisfying and silky smooth and the combos look cool as hell. I don't really play many fighting games because I tend to feel like memorizing combos feels more akin to work than play; this game reminds me of Smash almost in how easy it is to pick up while still retaining a surprising amount of depth. Also, the loot boxes aren't annoying and I actually prefer this method of obtaining items to having your pick of the litter since you don't have to decide what to buy, you just slowly unlock things. It feels less tedious this way.

9) Doki Doki Literature Club - PC (I swear I'm gonna play some console games this year) (7/10)
Honestly, I'm just glad that this game wasn't a joke; there are actual horror elements in this game. Though, he warning at the beginning makes what's going to happen pretty obvious. It is completely apparent what is going on with Monika once she tells you to save your game that first time, and I even expected Sayori to commit suicide. If you have played MGS, there is no other way a game can fuck with you. That being said, I genuinely liked the characters and enjoyed both the serious and campy horror bits. When Yuri is telling you how much she loves you right before she stabs herself...that was some seriously funny shit my dude.

10) Fallout: New Vegas ~ Dead Money - PC (4/10)
Fallout was not built to be a stealth game. This is frustratingly difficult. Some mission objectives here remind me of recent complaints with "Hello, Neighbor." Finding the blue controller modules for the security holograms or the radios that make the collar beep is basically blind luck. The world building in Fallout is usually cool, but I also just could not give less of a shit about the story behind the Sierra Madre.

3. KINGDOM HEARTS Re:Chain of Memories - PS4
Completed 1/29/17
Score - 7/10

Feels great to finally knock this one off the list. I have started it up more times than I can remember but finally put in the time to learn and kind of understand the mechanics of it. I beat both Sora and Rikus stories and actually found myself really enjoying it at times. I still feel that the game is way more complicated than it needs to be. Some of the boss fights are really difficult and lead to unnecessary frustration. Overall, I am glad I played and beat it and look forward to finally playing KH 2 at some point this year.

34:35h. Completed main game + Episode RR. Team: Incineroar, Magnezone, Lycanroc (Dusk form), Tsareena, Bewear and Noivern.

While the first half of the game is basically unchanged compared to Pokemon Sun/Moon, the second half of the game is totally different and, in my opinion, much more interesting and "complete" than the previous entry in the series. Also, the game seems to be noticeably more difficult, particularly in the postgame - understandable, considering who are you facing.

I would have liked a "true" sequel, like B&W2 were to B&W, but oh well, all in all very satisfied. Probably my favorite 3DS Pokemon.

My Score: ★★★★

Firs time taking the challenge, it's time to finally clear my impossibly large backlog. Finally got a PS4 so I'm going through most of its catalogue. Impressive list of games waits ahead. I've decided to do what I've always strived to accomplish which is playing just one game at a time until completion, no more abandoned games unless I'm not feeling it at all.

1: Resident Evil 7 Biohazard
PS4. Beaten on Normal Difficulty, Ending 2
Great experience and a sincere refreshing new direction for the beloved survival horror franchise.

2: DOOM (2016)
PS4. Beaten on Ultra Violence.
Can't possibly think of a better way to put Doom back on the big name board than this amazing game. Enjoyed from start to finish.

3: Wolfenstein: The New Order
PS4. Beaten on I am Death Incarnate. Fergus timeline.
Wolfenstein is definitely back! Rather lengthy campaign, will continue with the Old Blood asap.

Game #04 - Middle-Earth: Shadow of War (PS4) Playtime: 24.8 hours | Beaten 1/27/2018
As a big fan of the Lord of the Rings, I was excited when this one was announced. I thoroughly enjoyed Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor and had high hopes for the sequel. I played through all of the story and side-missions but stopped after Act 3 as I'd had my fill of the many repetitive quests. I may go back at a future date to try some of the post-story content but definitely had my fill for the time being.

Game #05 - Metal Slug 1 (PS4) Playtime: 0.6 hours | Beaten 1/29/2018
I picked up Metal Slug Anthology as part of the PS+ sale for $4.99 on a recommendation that it was "better than Contra." As a gamer who grew up playing Nintendo and the like, this seemed a dubious claim, but I took a chance and spent the $5 to give this one a shot. The action was over-the-top and the weapons were wild, but I have to admit I vastly prefer the tighter control and gameplay offered by Contra. At times there was simply too much happening - too many bullets to dodge, too many enemies on the screen, etc. Even for less than a buck a game, I still felt this was overrated and is one I will probably not be coming back to play.

Game #06 - Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice (PS4) Playtime: 7.1 hours | Beaten 1/30/2018
Easily one of the most unique experiences of any game that I've played in recent memory. The combat was straight-forward, the puzzles were occasionally frustrating, but the voice acting, sound and visual effects were top-notch. In a sea of me-too game experiences, this is one that I'm sure will stand the test of time. Highly recommend checking this one out!

Game #11 - South Park: The Fractured But Whole \ 8/10
Playtime: 22:00 hours l Beat on Feb. 1st l PC/Uplay
Stick of Truth is one my favorite games of all time. So obviously I was very excited for TFBW. Overall I'd say it didn't really meet my expectations but it still was very enjoyable. The humor felt a bit repetitive and had a bunch of recycled jokes from the first game. All the good stuff seemed to be in preview events as well, so I'm kinda kicking myself for watching those. The story also felt a bit rushed and unfinished towards the end. Onto the good stuff. The combat is slightly different from SoT but was a lot of fun in its' own way. The devs definitely managed to create a fun and original combat system that is very fitting to the games theme, as a lot of boss fights were actually pretty funny and cleverly managed. The collectibles and puzzles were also a lot of fun to do and managed to continue improving one of the more enjoyable gameplay features for me. Gaining access to new abilities, going back to solve a puzzle I couldn't do before. I love it. It has a Metroidvania feel to it. The game also introduced a bunch of new characters from the show that we didn't have in SoT and it was done really well. Overall, if you're a South Park fan, I'd recommend TFBW for sure. Make sure you play SoT first though.

Game #12 - Shin Megami: Tensei III: Nocturne \ 8/10
Playtime: 21:00 hours l "Beat" on Feb. 3rd l Playstation 3
I started playing this back in Aug '17. Had a bunch of breaks from it over time, as I barely managed to play about 3-4 hours a month on avg. The game is pretty intimidating and overwhelming to a JRPG noob (only played Persona games) and I guess I was kinda demotivated to dust off the PS3 everytime to play this for an hour or so before needing a break. I really liked it though. If I'd have more time to play these kind of "figure it out" styled games, sure, I'd probably take my time. As it is, I'm happy to have played it to the halfway point and I'd say I got my moneys' worth. Love the art style, love the combat, it's very hard though.

Game #13 - Batman: The Telltale Series S1 \ 5/10
Playtime: 08:00 hours l Beat on Feb. 3rd l Playstation 4
This is actually the 200th game I've ever finished. A shame that it's a game I didn't enjoy a lot. I'd call it a slightly below average video game and a slightly above average Telltale game. Didn't like the first 3 episodes at all, as your decisions didn't seem to matter and the plot didn't really react to what you did, so I was left confused by it. The only thing that is supposed to make TT games stand out didn't work. Starting with the end of Ep. 3, I guess I was digging the story a bit more, even though I wouldn't call it good. Just interesting enough. I don't mind QTEs in Telltale games and the moments where you try to work out what happened at a crime scene are enjoyable enough. Still, wouldn't recommend tbh.

11) Spec Ops: The Line - PC (6/10)
This is a very interesting game for a lot of reasons, but a lot of the game just feels tedious or repetitive. At some points the game doesn't highlight exactly what you're supposed to do and this can be very annoying. Like I remember this point where you're supposed to use a drone strike for the White Phosphorous and the game doesn't direct you to the PC so I was just standing there not knowing what to do. I even passed by the PC a few times without a context sensitive action coming up. Yet this is one of the most memorable moments of the game, it really makes you confront the things Walker does in a way not many games do. There's a few moments here almost on the level of the airport terrorist level from Modern Warfare 2, but some of them didn't hit me as hard as I think they were intended to. For example, the "choice" part with the two hanging guys didn't really feel like much to me. Also, a lot of the art in this game is really cool; strange mixes of colors on the inside of building versus the outside environment. The irony that the game is set in Dubai in a MW-esque time yet the enemies are white American soldiers is not lost on me either. Also, the soundtrack is pretty good.

I waited a long time to pick this one up and was excited when I finally got to play it. I really enjoyed the quirky crazy story and enjoyed the ending. The controls were funny at times and infuriating at others. The arcade and jungle gym level really were more annoying to play than fun. The game was also really really short. Even after playing the DLC shorts I felt they could have added a little more to do. Overall, fun but too short.

Almost half of the year and I'm far from to get on it... Oh, man ):

01: ZELDA: BREATH OF THE WILD - MORE THAN 60 HOURS
# This is a game that you don't really care for the plot, but that's fine. You can do so much shit in the world. It's really one of the best games ever made.

02: SUPER MARIO ODYSSEY - FIVE HOURS
# So tight controls, with a real nice dificulty. Like VideogameDunkey says: this is one of the big boys.

03: GOD OF WAR - 30 HOURS (more or less)
# I really miss the old God of War formula, but this game is alright. Defeated the Valkyries, got the best armor and fully upgraded the weapons.

Let's start this.

#01 - Gravity Rush 2 - 07/10
Playtime: 25:00 hours - Beat 15/01 - PS4

GR is one of my favourite PS family games. Unfortunately GR2 is much, much weaker, than first part and it's one of my personal flop of 2017.

#02 - Gravity Rush 2 - The Ark of Time – Raven's Choice - 06/10
Playtime: 02:35 hours - Beat 15/01 - PS4

DLC to GR2. Quite good, quite interesting, but very short. For free, so worth to give it a shot.

#03 - Little Nightmares - 08/10
Playtime: 04:48 hours - Beat 16/01 - XBO

I like platform-style games. LN from the beginning is mysterious and gloomy. Our heroine keep a little secret during her trip in this world, full of disgusting monsters, people and others. Good, small game.

#04 - Deadlight: Cirector's Cut - 08/10
Playtime: 04:59 hours - Beat 25/01 - XBO

Next platform game and next 8/10 in my personal ranking. This time zombie's world, one guy and a mission to survive and help others. I am not a big fan of zombie - I don't like it (overflow in last years), but Deadlight is good. Real good.

#05 - Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution 2 - 09/10
Playtime: 04:19 hours - Beat 05/02 - PSV

Finally. Civ in my pocket. I was looking forward this game on my Vita. Beat campaign, yesterday. Roman victory and I know one thing. Just one more turn is present here, too. Tonight next "turn", with next race.

2) Horizon Zero Dawn- PS4 Pro (9/10) - 67% completion on around 44 hours of playtime on Normal Difficulty
Took me while to get into this game, the setting and robot dinosaurs didn't appeal at first but after getting through the prolonged intro (around the first 5 hours) and the game world opening up it really hooked me in. It looks beautiful as everyone knows but the combat is really the the star here, nothing more exhilarating than taking out a Thunderjaw with a slo-mo tear shot to the FACE. I feel the main thing holding this one back from being an all time great is just the familiarity of so many of the elements, hiding in foliage for stealth attacks, climbing large structures to unlock the map etc etc BUT Guerrilla do a really good job of refining all these elements and giving them a twist so they all work perfectly.

I should probably also mention the story, I liked more of the smaller sub plots than the mostly forgettable larger Hades arch but it was interesting learning the back story of Elizabeth Olsen and how the world fell to the machines. Will come back and play the Frozen Wilds DLC at some point but in no rush.

4) Black Mesa - PC (9/10)

12) SUPERHOT - PC (9/10)
This game is very original and satisfying. I was addicted while playing through the "story." Probably gonna go back and play through some of the challenge modes because I seriously could not get enough. The game is so good at making you feel like a total badass genius. Only real gripe is that some of the difficulty spikes are weird. At some points you'll have a level that's totally easy and then it will take you 30 tries to get through the next level.

I guess this was Rockstar's attempt at making an Uncharted game lol. Felt like a weird amalgam of adventure and neo-noir, which I kind of liked. Max was kind of likable, but emotionless, but it kind of works. There are nice nice design choices here, like the context sensitive window breaking and melee attacks that make the game feel even smoother. Also, some nice levels here, particularly the cemetery and the favela levels. Liked that the story actually killed off some characters; even though they were introduced in this game, I still cared. Pretty dang solid.

I hate it that some games report the complete playtime while other required you to time it yourself or bust. Likewise, I'm enjoying a lot this one game at a time rule, focusing on just one thing really helps with going finishing games.

4: Rise of the Tomb Raider
PS4 | Survivor difficulty | 30ish hours
Amazing continuation to the also stellar Tomb Raider (2013). I loved that you could basically do your own thing and blast through the game or spend time and do most of the optional stuff (like the incredible optional tombs) with awesome rewards for it.

5: Prey (2017)
PS4 | Hard difficulty | 34 hours
Wow, just wow. You've read/heard this enough I'm sure but this game really is System Shock 3. The freedom, the gameplay, the philosophy behind everything. It deserves to be up there with the finest of immersive sims ever made.

Next stop:
• Horizon: Zero Dawn

1. Mantis Burn Racing (XBO - 5h - started in 2017)
I've been waiting for a pure top down racing game like this (no power ups) since Ignition from 1998 (anyone remember that game?). Core gameplay is simple and solid, with shiny graphics and satisfying driving mechanics. Unfortunately MBR lacks imagination/style/personality in nearly every aspect. Generic music, boring car models and sounds (in old Ignition every car had distinctive boost sound), mind-numbing career progression - base game has only 8 tracks, so things get repetitive pretty quickly. Speaking of tracks, they are pretty but again, just basic stuff, no dynamic events (Ignition had those, moving train, sandstorm etc.), everything's just static assets. The whole game feels like a missed opportunity for a great little title. I still had fun in some small doses, but i'm kinda mad at devs at the same time, that they took the easy way. 6/10

2. Rocket League (XBO - started in 2017)
While this game can't be completed, i've decided to put on my list MP games that i've played 10+ hours. I love RL, already clocked 350h total and counting, but i hate it at the same time. Connection is awful in 50% of my matches, and people can be dicks. Also performance on XBO is not so hot, it feels more smooth on ps4.
Oh, and Psyonix pissed me off with the addition of loot boxes, i despise that stuff in any form. They had a good thing going with proper DLC packs, but they went the greedy route. Overall, a lot of negative feelings with the game, but i just can't put it down, core gameplay is just phenomenal and addicting. 8.5/10

3. Dishonored: Death of the Outsider (XBO - 6h - replay)
My 3rd and final playthrough of DOTO. Ghosted every level, completed all contracts and enjoyed my time revisting Karnaca. Solid standalone expansion to the Dishonored universe, yet slightly disappointing. Game consists of 5 missions, but 1st one is tiny and feels like tutorial, one mission is a slightly reskinned map from D2, and the final level is just bad. So you only really get 2 missions that live to the scale and quality of D2, and one of them, Bank Job is the real highlight of DOTO and one of my favs in the series. Regarding to gameplay, you get some new stuff to play with like hook mines and a new set of (underwhelming) powers, but all in all, gameplay loop is pretty much the same stuff you know and love from previus Dishonored games. Graphics, artstyle, sound design, animations - D2 tier (mindblowing); Arkane Studios, From Soft and Tango Gameworks are the best in bussiness right now when it comes to art design. To sum up, buy DOTO only if you're a fan of the series, it retains most of D2 greatness, but feels kinda rushed in terms of the level design and Billie's abilities. 7/10

What's next:
-Kingdom Come Deliverance
-Dishonored 2 (replay on NG+)
-Evil Within (replay on nightmare)
-Rayman Legends (replay)
-Okami (replay)
-Beyond Good & Evil (replay)

1: SteamWorld Dig 2 - Around 9 Hours - Score: 6.5/10 - System: Nintendo Switch
I heard good things about this game. Unfortunately it didn't really live up to the hype for me.
It had some good music and fun mechanics but your character became way to powerful towards the later parts of the game.

2: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - 120 Hours - Score: 8.5/10 - System: Nintendo Switch
Started this game in 2017, finished it in 2018. Overall very happy I played this. Incredible music (love Mitsuda's tracks). The game had great enemy & world design and a fun and-
pretty complex combat system. At times it felt very grindy and relied heavily on RNG especially when trying to get all the blades or scavenging.

3: Hollow Knight - 30 Hours - Score: 9/10 - System: PC
This is easily one the best metroidvania games ever made. I absolutely loved this game. The level design is fantastic, the music and audio design fits the game perfectly.
The mechanics are fun and the enemies/bosses are challenging and unique. I got stuck plenty of times and it did not frustrate me because it was so fun to figure it out.

4: Shadow of the Colossus - 7 Hours - Score: 9/10 - System: PS4 Pro
Best looking console game I have ever seen. Played it on a LG OLED B7 in Cinematic Mode. I had finished the original PS2 version but this version still made me feel those awe moments-
like the first time I played it. Bluepoint Games really deserves a standing ovation for this one.

5: Assassin's Creed Origins - Around 70 Hours - Score: 8/10 - System: PS4 Pro
I don't know what it is with Assassin's Creed games but I always end up getting the platinum trophy in them. This one was no different. The game looks great and has a fresh and different combat & loot system than previous games.
This was definitely one of my favorites in the series with Black Flag being my favorite. I started this one also in 2017 during Christmas but finished it in 2018.

Game #14 - Call of Juarez: Gunslinger \ 7/10
Playtime: 06:00 hours l Beat on Feb. 10th l PC/Steam
Solid western FPS game. Just as much fun as I thought it'd be. The narration in this one was funny and very unique, making this game more atmospheric at the same time. The gameplay is pretty straightforward and doesn't add a lot through the multiple episodes but it was enjoyable enough for 6 hours of playtime.

8h-ish. Completed game, did not look for graffiti locations. Spoilers hella unmarked.

What a slog of a game. Life is Strange BtS's subtitle should be "Boring Things Happen To Boring People". Instead of the first game interesting mixture of Twin Peaks and Nancy Drew, we get a Very Special Episode of Dawson's Creek. Chloe goes from an awesome supporting character to an aggressively mediocre protagonist, and the supporting cast go from unnecessary to annoying (Tonight on Everybody Loves Rachel..!). Also, more glaringly, lots of the "important" decisions you face (Mend your relationship with David? Give Damon the money? Let Rachel take the heat from p. Wells?) have exactly 0 repercussion in the plot and are swiftly undone for you by the time of the first Life is Strange. It's almost understandable they got rid of the "This decision will have consequences" prompt.

I loved the first LiS to hell and back, so this was my first disappointment of 2018. I'm giving it a pass because of the awesome production values (great music) but in my heart, I feel this game is a failure.

My Score: ★★★
