So how long do you you want them to wait?
They want Sony to wait until MS releases their next console the same year. Bookmark this and come back holiday 2020.

I dont care about console wars .. i want whats best for the industry. Releasing a subpar ps5 will limit the whole next generation and would be worse for sony not better. Initally they will be ahead on sales but then as the generation gets older its gpu limitations will limit its capability to keep up with xbox / pc. In the end its prob going to be better for MS for Sony to do this approach as most people upgrade later in the cycle and may likely favour the more powerful console if its the same price. Already planning for a ps5 pro now just means generations are truely dead and Sony is the main instigator. A 2021 ps 5 pro will be released whilst many games are still being released for ps4 pro and ps4!
Generations are dead.. which honestly is a good thing because fake limitations on what platforms games are on are stupid. I never cared Titanfall or Tombraider came out on 360 .. why would i?

Sony has a fantastic 1st party who push further than any multi platform release, they’ll be fine.
I think the PS5 coming in 2018 makes sense after seeing The Last of Us 2 visuals. Either that or we will see a definite downgrade. Hope I'm wrong of course, I hope ND continue to wow us with their wizardry.
That trailer was entirely done on a ps4. There is nothing in it from a ps5.
If PS5 is to be released in 2019, various sought-after games might wind up getting cross-gen treatment ? (you know, across the board --> PS4, PS4Pro, PS5)
If, indeed, it lands in 2019, then it is going to be interesting to see games announced in this gen, how they will develop-unfold themselves on the new PS5 hardware

XBX1 won’t even get games as good looking as ‘The Order 1886’ running on the OG PS4 with 1.84TF, so trying to compare what PS5 can achieve even if it released at 6TF is just silly IMO
Maybe the XB1X is why Sony is rushing to get a PS5 out the door, since the X is native 4K and the PS4 Pro is not.
Which probably means the PS5 will be just barely more powerful than the PS4.
I could live with that if the PS5 is totally backwards compatible with the PS4 and it basically would be like buying a Pro but you also get 5 exclusives and also if Sony cools it for a while and doesn't release a "PS5 Pro" two years after the 5 comes out.
But still, this feels like a welcome to a new world of console upgrades happening as frequently as buying a new graphics card for your PC and once again the line between PC and console gaming gets blurrier, raising the question of why even bother with consoles since increasingly the only exclusives are first party ones and if a console is just a PC with less features.
On top of that if there's a new rapid arms race with consoles coming more frequently we're going to fast reach the point where graphics are photorealistic and then what more can you do?
Gears 4 looks as good any PS4 exclusives in 4k on X. Gears 4 on X is more than just resolution boost. Everything is improved from assets to frame rate.
Art style is different and less realistic compared to Order but it's right up there with best atleast on PC and X. I have played both and I was far more impressed with Gears 4 on X than Order 1886 which had to resort to black bars to high visual fidelity.
Same goes for Forza Horizon 3 and Halo 5 on X. After checking Halo 5 on X, I was blown away. It's 4k60 on X.
These games are native 4k with 4k assets which no PS exclusive can achieve this gen.
It does kinda seem like they are spooked last gen MS was riding the wave until the end even though that was letting Playstation catch up. I guess they are worried MS is going to catchup.. releasing a new console just sells to your existing market and dosent expand it. It will be interesting to see how they price the base ps4 going foward youd think thed make it super cheap to undercut the xbox one s.

Things I want from Next PS5 -
Full PS4 Native Bc
CPU is good (Zen), but Sony making 60fps mandatory is not going to happen.60 fps mandatory for all games that means good cpu.
Definitely there.12 or 16 gb ram
So, something around Vega 56, one tier higher than PS4 Pro's "480", quite likelyGpu equivalent of 1070 or higher atleast.
Wait, is current OS slow?Fast OS
Nothing stops you from upgrading to SSD, there has been no serious progress on traditional HDD speed, so not going to happen.Faster hdd for faster loadtimes and better streaming of assets.
What does that mean? Current PS4's already can feed TVs over HDMI with HDR enabled.System level HDR
Would be cool, and I'd pay 100 more for a premium "quiet" version, but, alas, unlikely to happen.Good cooling solution
Whisper quiet system coz Pro is freaking jet engine.
On PS4 they gave up 7 to devs, so 1 is reserved for OS, they can't give that last core up for "yields".8 cores makes sense and would make BC easier to achieve. 1 core disabled for yields, "part of" another core reserved for OS (1c/1t on that one for games), would be a 7C/13T cpu, could do core per core Ps4 emulation.

Sony aren't losing any sleep over the X. These mid-gen boxes represent a tiny niche market with minuscule install bases compared to the sea of vanilla X1 and PS4s.Maybe the XB1X is why Sony is rushing to get a PS5 out the door, since the X is native 4K and the PS4 Pro is not.
Because it is impossible to mass produce perfect chips, I've always assumed that 1 cpu core and some gpu CUs were disabled to make sure every console manufactured could reach the same max performance. On PS4 they gave up 7 to devs, so 1 is reserved for OS, they can't give that last core up for "yields".
They do have some circuit redundancy, so if some of transistors are bad, chip is still working.Because it is impossible to mass produce perfect chips, I've always assumed that 1 cpu core and some gpu CUs were disabled to make sure every console manufactured could reach the same max performance.

SSD don't think will be possible without significantly increasing cost of hardware.
That's all I want. Don't want anything fancy which makes system very expensive
I think that's a fairly likely development. Newer version of the APU (not different feature-wise of course), cheaper to produce/able to sell for less, it makes sense business-wise. PS3 went through several iterations, from the monstrosity that was the original fat model to the last slimmest model that was quite tiny.Do you guys feel that a PS4 Pro Slim will ever be on the cards now that PS5 development is hitting its stride and is only a year and a half away?
Nitpicking, but it was originally 6 for the devs, 2 for the OS. Currently it's 6 and half-ish for the devs, rest for the OS.On PS4 they gave up 7 to devs, so 1 is reserved for OS, they can't give that last core up for "yields".

Yes, but why do you say it is half? I read Sony unlocks PS4’s 7th processing core for developers (following Microsoft).Nitpicking, but it was originally 6 for the devs, 2 for the OS. Currently it's 6 and half-ish for the devs, rest for the OS.
Wait so why couldn’t they release it one in 2018 and another in 2021?
This may have changed since, but when the feature was released, it was said that the seventh core may not be completely/all the time usable by devs. Quoting from the article:Yes, but why do you say it is half? I read Sony unlocks PS4’s 7th processing core for developers (following Microsoft).
So "half" may not be correct, but at least then "completely" wasn't either.Right now it's not entirely clear whether similar conditions are in place at all on PlayStation 4, but one source informs us that PlayStation 4's debugging and analysis tool - called Razor - "splits the activity on that core between user and system", which does seem to suggest that the seventh processing core is shared to a certain extent between the OS and game.
What is the estimate performance difference between a ps4 Jaguar core and a Ryzen 1 or 2 core? (considering power consumption and GHz appropriate for a console)

An incredibly compelling argument.Because it would be stupid
Maybe it is just a PS4 Super Pro (if real at all).
Main focus on a CPU upgrade to run a lot more current gen games at 60fps, plus help with VR. Also get rid of the PSVR breakout box.
An incredibly compelling argument.
