Understanding it and agreeing with it are two different things. I am also in favour of relative voting systems rather than absolute ones . Though admittedly, it would in principle be possible to have a combination of relative voting system and preferential treatment of lower population states, but it would be a bit more complicated than either the electoral college or a simple "every vote has the same weight" system.

You are basically saying that there is a subset of trans-women who recieve pleasure from the bodily changes they get through the transition process, and that the movement at large ignores them because that is harmful to their ideals, right?

Yes it was pretty "echo chamber" here prior. All the worst of those type tried to sabotage this forum on their exodus, and went to/formed Era, then dialed it up to 20 (if this were 10 prior).
This is the same GAF, just the trash took itself out, and now people are actually allowed to share a myriad of opinions and ideas once again. Like real human beings should operate.

It was a long infiltration and change of mindset. First time I really noticed was the 'incident' with Kobe back in '10? '11? where he lost his temper on court and in the heat of the moment called the ref a "fag" and a number of posters here took him to task like he had really done something horrible. There were a few comments that I remember simply shaking my head at mainly due to that while it wasn't a cool thing that he did the responses felt overblown.
It was 2013/14 when it became more apparent that things had changed and one had to be a lot more careful with how they posted lest they got the boot. And naturally the 2016 election and its aftermath was when for me it was post only in threads that were safe and nonpolitical.
And the real scary part is that I generally agreed with a lot of them and their concerns but knew it wouldn't be enough.
It was just weird how a number of posters who had been on here for years slowly morphed with how things were changing and I just can't get over how a lot of names I recognize on Era would have screamed at their younger selves here if they could.

Prior to ERA forming, the site was overrun by those very same people. While they didn't have as strong of a control, they still did a lot of lasting damage. Those people moved to ERA, became much worse with the percieved sense of control, and the rest is history.
Since then, GAF has been rebuilding. People that were unfairly banned through poor moderators like Bish are being unbanned by the administration. People that are right leaning can now speak without fear of dog piles and instant bans. People who are left leaning can now simply converse about games without having to participate in making everything a political endeavor. People can have genuine conversations and discussions over multiple topics.
This is more of a NeoGaf 3.0. There was the original Gaf, which was much more just about video games and fun from the early days. Then you had Gaf 2.0 which was when the site was overrun by those lunatics. This lasted roughly from 2011 to Oct. 2017. Now you have NeoGaf 3.0 which is much closer to how NeoGaf originally was. At least from my understanding, anyhow.

Thanks for the insights. It does seem remarkably cult like there. I’m sure it contains many centered members that just keep their heads low to get by. It would be good to see some more people on here. That numbers advantage on Era is the only drawcard.

I also find curious a degree of nepotism between Era and sites like polygon, kotaku and waypoint. I’m not sure if what’s occuring is pure coincidence or if there is an echo chamber effect feeding off each other. Are they run by the same few influencers? Perhaps it’s an industry wide epidemic of hard lined liberals. Heck I’m even noticing SJW leaning on Eurogamer, a British outlet not related to the US PC movement.
Trying to find my bearing in an increasingly ugly landscape.
