Capcom is set to launch in-game advertisements in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition on December 11, and players who choose to keep them activated will get to enjoy some bonuses and content.
The ads will be seen on Street Fighter V characters through Ad Style costumes, on loading screens before a match, and on certain elements of some tournament stages.
For players who would rather not see the ads, there will be an option to turn them off through the Battle Settings. Unfortunately, there is a catch when deactivating Street Fighter V in-game ads.

Street Fighter V players who keep Sponsored Content turned on will be able to receive bonus Fight Money in Ranked and Casual matches. The Sponsor Display option is also the only way to access Ad Style costumes.

The Red Bull costumes are kinda jank but...

I've never played SFV, and I'm not a fan of advertising in general, but this doesn't seem super obnoxious. Firstly, you can turn it off. Secondly, having the advertisements on costumes and built into the backgrounds is something that's been in games for over 30 years.

This game is abomination and it is becoming even worst each day. People need to start respecting themselves and stop allowing this trash developers to manipulate them with their crappy incomplete games.

They basically locked a basic content and giving little fake currency to unlock small portions of content, by forcing people to watch ads instead of playing the game, or spend enormous amount of money on digital trash like dresses, 2d maps and colors.

I've stop playing this game (the Arcade Edition) since I discovered how little of content they left without extra charge of money,

Capcpom Exec: “Wow, we really screwed the pooch with Street Fighter V. How can we salvage some more cash out of it?”

Capcpom Intern: “What about in-game ads, sir? What few gamers we have left playing it won’t even notice.”

Capcpom Exec: “That a crazy enough idea to work. Good job, kid. Now about that Starbucks run...”

So how will it be handled will it be in the background stages or something like FFXV colemen/cupnoodle thing or literally just ads out of nowhere?'
I am ok with the first two but not ok with lets say ads before a multiplayer match holy crap.

Yes but it kept getting worse....right now it's insane compared to what it was before...if you give corporations an inch they will go a mile
How is it insane? Most ads you can skip after 5 seconds. I would argue that out of all "free" video se rvices youtube's are the least invasive.

Greedy pieces of shit. Bet half of you wouldn't care if corporations implanted ads in your dreams.

For the record, right now the new update seems to only advertise their own tournaments like Capcom Pro Tour. Also, like people already mentioned the game already had sponsored costumes.

The fact I had to sit and watch a 30 second ad once is all I need to say...insane to how it was when it started.....Dude it went from an ad once every few vids...to basically an ad ea vid with some taking 15-30 seconds....not to mention the ads on the side or the ads that you have to close because they crop out some of the video etc.....we were frog pot boiled to this

With the exception that this game is not free to play.

I've paid for it and now you put ads in it?

Mmmmh...

Yeah this doesn't really bother me. Upping my fight money sounds good if these ads are as ignorable as they sound.

What content exactly besides superfluous stuff is locked away? You get a decent cast with AE, story mode, a bunch of arcade modes, challenges, survival, training, versus, online modes. As someone who just wants a solid fighter and doesn't really buy extras, this fighting game is not really lacking in my opinion. And besides, at least with this game you are able to purchase stuff via the fight money - when you first get the game and run through the single player content, you have plenty of FM to get stuff for your preferred character and some other exrtas. Then you can grind for more if that's your thing. Personally, I've been happy with the game as presented in AE from day 1, and have only seen improvements. Seasonal changes, additional free content (the dojo stage), and I hear there will be major gameplay updates in a coming update. I don't understand why people love to shit on this one, I guess because initial launch was terrible.

I’m surprised they are doing this to the users who bought the game rather than just the planned f2p version on the horizon. I’ll likely turn them off myself as I don’t like the precedent it sets and where it could lead.

If the ads are targeted it could be a nightmare, I’ve just bought my girlfriends Christmas presents...

I remember when Ono said, back in the sf4 beta days, that they will never do alt-costume as the Street Fighter characters look was too iconic.

As I said in the other thread don't be surprised if Capcom messes with FM so you earn less if you don't have this garbage activated. I barely play the game at all anymore but this shit means I'm probably not even going to bother checking in when season 4 hits.

LOL.

But according to the article, the option is there to turn it totally off. That's not happening?

Or are you playing with the feature on so you get the bonus pay out?

The costumes with the Redbull logo were not enough ? Let's see how this will turn. If it works, we might have coke, Hershey's and other brands on Monster Hunter.

Hard pass. I've enjoyed the game up to this point, warts and all, and I was planning to buy whatever physical version they launch toward the end of the gen. Now there's no chance.

I have no problem with this because I'm good at ignoring ads

Fine by me!

Yeah this doesn't really bother me. Upping my fight money sounds good if these ads are as ignorable as they sound.

It's not that simple. Yes we can ignore the ads, yes the ads may not be too intrusive or in your face. The problem is it sets a really bad precedent going forward. This is not a freemium game. Ads have no place in a paid for product. It's another way of monetizing a full priced game. If people are ok with it, I can definitely see other publishers following suit.

The way I see it the devs will get paid by someone other than me & all I have to do is ignore ads

Why do we have to sit through this when we've already paid for it? If it was a free to play game, there is a slim chance I would've been ok with it but in a full priced game? No thanks.

While I'm not a fan of this idea I do remember seeing a Ryu Adidas outfit for 4 and I thought i looked pretty wicked! Still ain't reinstalling this game tho..

How big of an audience could this have? I don't think advertisers are paying much because there can't be that many people still playing this turd. There hasn't been any good news about the game from any of the outlets that I follow.

How low the mighty have fallen. It’d be funny if it weren’t so sad.

(Well, it’s still funny… at least for those who never paid for the game.)

I still think being upset at ads in youtube videos is not a realistic way of looking at things. The “free trial” of the internet in the 90’s and early 2000’s really spoiled us. They always intended to monetize the internet somehow. With regards to SFV, I do agree this is concerning, but there is the option of turning it off.

You can turn them off right? It's an optional way to earn fight money the way I see it.

Why is it a turd? I've been having fun with it for quite a while since purchasing AE. Never have a problem getting a match, and imo the Evo matches are a blast to watch, I don't follow the CPT stuff too closely. I'm aware some pros have a problem with the nuts and bolts of the game, but it's a highly functional and fun Street Fighter game that plenty of people are still enjoying. I actually really like the way this games mechanics feel for whatever reason (I suck? lol Idk, I don't give a shit, it's fun), so it's been cool imo that I've been getting seasonal game updates rather than having to pay for new full releases to keep up with the game.

It's optional you don't have to see the ads

People who are ok with this are not considering the full history with Sfv. This game came out at full price, has had three season passes for characters, and a myriad of alternate outfits that can be purchased with real money only. When AE released they also actively removed single-player fight money generation and reduced fight money rewards for challenges, while implementing a new challenge that requires you to gamble existing fight money for a chance to earn more.

And now they're putting in ads. One of the selling points of this game originally was that you would be able to unlock characters and costumes through regular play, but that has proven to be complete and utter horseshit.

I'm waiting for sho-ryu-ken turning into se-ven-eleven.

The red bull costumes are already cringe squared, way to go ruining your once iconic fighting series.
