Even at $60, knowing that it's hackable to load any PS1 game, I'm still having a hard time pulling the trigger on this.
The PlayStation Classic is a pile of junk is all.Fashionable to hate on Sony again, I see. I got a Snes classic for my son, he loves it. I'll get a Nes mini soon, it's 60 here, so thats good.

I’ll bite at $30.
So - another few weeks then?
It needs confirmation you can use Dualshocks and an easier way to load everything.
Launching it with no analogues is the deal breaker for me. The thing was selling for 60 bucks and I still held off.
Hilarious it keeps dropping. Please get down to $20. I will buy two. One for use and one to keep sealed.
There is an upcoming way to play with your wireless Dualshock (PS3/PS4) and other controllers. It's from 8bitdo and it costs $19.99: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07L334WXC/?tag=neogaf0e-20
Thats cool but then the value proposition kinda goes away. Now I gotta spend an extra 20 bucks, meh. I would like to hack the thing and load it up with N64 and PS1 games, but without the Dual Shock its not worth it.
Would be a no brainer if it came with the Dual Shock, but without it I end up seeing myself not really playing it much.
All though I read retroarch is coming and it will support DS4. So I wonder if you will ever be able to plug in your DS4 directly into the system. I have a PS4 so if I could use my controller I would be all over it.
Sony was just cheap by realeasing it with the original controller. I mean I get the nostalgia, but the DualShock is PLAYSTATION. That controller is so iconic. Just brain dead, but looking at the whole product not a surprise.
So you got a ps1 classic or not... Lol. You just mentioned you got a Snes classic and that's it.
You put out a poor product, you get hate.
For me personally...
1. No dualshocks
2. 50hz games
3. Poor emulation in some games
4. No extra features at all.
5. Front end looks like shit. I get what they were going for, but it looks like a Chinese knockoff.
I think having 2 Dualshock's in this thing would have made it a much more expensive endeavor. Especially when very, very few games that gen or included in the package utilized it.
DUALSHOCK problem seems to be addressed by 8bitdo.
All games can be changed to ncts 60fps in the menu , using a keyboard.
Agree with your other points, a leaderboard and trophies etc would have been nice.
I didn't get the PS1 mini cause of all the bad reviews ... that's why I went for snes.

Honestly, remove the 2 crap controllers, and make 1 good one with sticks. That would have been a better use of budget.
Or let people use their own PS controllers or 3rd paty ones.
I mean, for God's sake, its USB.
Does the PS3 controller switch over to "wired" when plugged in via USB (could have sworn it did for PC use), and if so, did anyone try it?
There is a retroarch port already and DS4 works with it.
can I plug my DS4 into it directly or only with the 8bitdo thing?
I believe PS4 controllers are always wireless and never switch to a wired mode, thus you will need a receiver.
Well the dream is dead then LOL.
I don't want to buy an adaptor and this thing just to play some old games LOL.
Retroarch works without an adapter. You just need to hack it.
You should be able to. Retroarch adds a good number of controller support.to much conflicting info LOL.
So I can plug my DS4 directly into the PS classic and play games with retroarch?
I don’t think Sega cares.I hope that Sega are paying attention. Mini consoles aren't just easy money-printing machines, they actually need to be done well in order to be successful.
I don’t think Sega cares.
I’ve seen this exact claim many times, it was especially prevalent when the Playstation Classic was announced (heh) and yet I am yet to see a single reason as to why this would be so.it had everything going for it to totally smoke the Nintendo classic consoles

NES and SNES nostalgia is and has always been off the charts. PSX, not so much. How many gaming forums have thread after thread discussing PSX games? So why would it “totally smoke” the Nintendo classics?
If/when a PS2 Classic is announced, we can revisit this discussion (even then I have my doubts), but really, I feel this claim has very little basis.
As much as modern day gamer would like it to be different (and I generally buy everything eventually, so, no fanboy), Nintendo nostalgia will always trump any other gaming nostalgia in terms of numbers. Just look at emulation. Nintendo consoles are always the most actively supported in that field.Reason is simple, in this day and age, Sony can do no wrong and is the lord and saviour. Even when they screw up, it’s not their fault. Having taught many kids over the years, j can’t tell you how many times I’ve had kids (and adults lol) use those same silly excuses. When Nintendo announced the NES mini it was because they had no games today. When Sony did, it was because they were genius.
It’s a god damn PlayStation in a tiny cute form at Christmas. It should have sold eleventy billion units. It flopped. It’s... surprising, if you don’t know WHY it flopped.
I love my SNES mini, utterly adore it. But I seriously thought this thing would sell gangbusters. Instead, it’s almost like they draw on two white boards “what to do” and “what not to do”, and sent the intern the wrong damn one... Crazy...
it had everything going for it to totally smoke the Nintendo classic consoles
Yeah... no
It's easy to claim that, but whenever Sony has tried to follow Nintendo's steps and outwit them, it has failed miserably. Their best attemp was the PSP, and that was smoked by the DS.
This had the potential to work reasonabily good, but nowhere near of smoking Nintendo's classic consoles.
