Publisher: EA
Developer: Respawn Entertainment
Platforms: Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC
Release Date: SURPISE! It’s out now! (Feb 04, 2019)
Genre: FPS, Multiplayer, BR
Ratings: RP
Players: 1-60

“Okay so what exactly is it?”
Apex Legends, in short, is a F2P squad based Battle Royale which features 10 playable classes and 60 players making up to 20 squads per match (3 players per squad.)

The overall concept is similar to other Battle Royales such as PUBG and Blops IIII’s Blackout mode.

“So how does it work?”
Right now how it works is after you set up the game, you will be introduced to the play style via tutorial in which you’ll learn how to press gun to fire, move legs to walk and of course, play the game (no guarantees.) after which, you’ll be able to customize your classes in appearance (this is a BR game so there are no weapon customizations or variants outside of skins.)
Or jump straight into the game. The overall UI is closely similar to Fortnite, join friends, invite friends, the store, buying in-game
Currency, leveling up to earn goodies (in this case, loot boxes ala overwatch)

“How does it play?”
Once the game starts, your pick of class depends on your priority of the squad, at random players are chosen within their squad to pick who they want to play as. If you’re second or third, then you’ll need to wait for those above you to pick theirs. Just like with overwatch, only one class can be picked per squad, noT everyone in your group can play as Pathfinder for example. After which, you’ll be strapped to the drop ship along with your squad and you can set up a landing mark, jump together or individually, and then once
You land it’s basic BR gameplay. There are rarities in terms of grenades and armor, but weapons appear to be equal outside of their usual balance.

A few noticeable changes from the norm include the integration of champions, players with the highest overall stats. If you kill them, you get a bonus to your experience.
Also, your teammate is downed, you can revive them. If they are killed, you can grab their banner within a time limit, bring it to a respawn market and you’ll be able to respawn your teammate.

The Circle acts in rounds. After about four minutes, round one will end and the Circle
Will close in. Round two will last three minutes and the Circle will close again ectetra. Last squad standing wins.

This is my first OT so go gentle. I’m also typing from mobile so when I have a chance, I’ll edit in classes, weapons and other deats.

Another thing, it’s pretty evident that plenty of people on GAF don’t give a shit or hate the genre, that’s fine, but please keep this civil.

Edit 1: weapon statistics

Won my first ever game. Like first time I tried it, lol. Lucky but it happened.

Game is ... fucking great? Might’ve just saved EA.

Played a couple of hours with friends.
I enjoyed it, it's polished, shooting feels good and the image quality is very clear.

Still, vague disappointment for the choice to drop the traditional Titanfall aesthetic (which was fucking great, in my opinion) and I'm not exceedingly fond of hero classes in a battle royale.
Also, BOOOO for dropping wall running and Titans in any form. I can understand the latter but I'm still vaguely bitter about the first.

I’m super impressed by the ping feature. Just like that I think it should be a staple feature in every cooperative game moving forward.

This looks like a BR for overwatch, can people who have played comment on it, I'm not particurly interested in neither of those so is there any reason to give this a try?

I've only played a couple games so far but it seems pretty fun, and the teamplay is intuitive and intelligently streamlined. I'm glad they stuck with their own engine, something about the movement feels so much better than what you get in Frostbite. Hopefully they can tinker and experiment with the game modes like in Fortnite to keep it fresh (more players, double jump, mechs, etc.)

I have to imagine Titans will get involved in different forms or another

I can see them added down the line as a power weapon of some form similar to how fortnite had Thanos and the Infinity Sword.

Or as a vehicle. Idk.

I dont feel a sense of pride and accomplishment if I dont pay £50 for it.

Yeah, you'll feel much better about yourself with 4,000 (+350 Bonus) Apex Coins. I received a thousand for having Origin Premier so in my mind I'm already an Apex Legend.

Can't get past this "Initializing..." screen.

*edit*
Okay. Closing the app and rebooting seem to work here.

A free game? By EA?

Gotta check this out so I can tell my grandchildren that I lived in a time where EA made a free game.

I don't think the classes are as specialised as Overwatch after the first few plays. The character movement is the same, they are all the same size hitboxes and any character can use any gun equally as well as any other character. Each character has one or two special moves which in themselves are quite unique so will guide your playstyle but doesn't automatically make you a tank, medic or support character. As for the BR element, well it is a BR so if you absolutely hate that then you might hate this. One interesting difference is the dog tags feature that means if you are killed you can be brought back. It means that unless your whole squad is killed in a firefight then you can get back up to full strength again.

This was requested in another thread, but I thought I'd post it here instead. Nice job on the OT. I look forward to seeing it once you've had a chance to edit from a non-mobile device. Good thread title too. It kind of works on three different levels, doesn't it? :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I haven't payed attention to the FPS genre since the early Halo days.

Who are the FPS people to follow if I want to see this game played well?

Outside Ninja?

And no white males out of the six playable. Thanks ea... ... ... This is beginning to get retarded . Lol

This is why hero shooters sucks. I rather create my own builds and loadouts.

I just watched a video where they talked about asking Respawn why they didn't put wall running and other Pilot movement in the game. They said they tried it, and it kept splitting up the players, which isn't right for a tactical, team-focused battle royale game.

I hate to say it, but they're right. I played hundreds of hours of Titanfall 2 with several friends, and aside from general call-outs, we never could use any teamwork as pilots. You can't move as a group when you're wall running and slide-hopping. Only after calling our Titans did the game slow down enough to make teamwork a reality.

I still miss it, but now I understand why it's not there.

The pacing is still quick. I miss it but I can’t say it’s a bad design choice. Titanfall was just as much fun as because of its movement as its shooting. It’s not really a stay put and hold your ground type of shooter... if only because it’s so damn fun to move around

I hope this proves to be a hit for them. Even though I'll never play it because it's BR. I think respawn needs to catch a break.

The first thing that comes to my mind when I hear "Apex Legends" is a race track. It really sounds like a mobile racing game or something.

Sure, that's you. How many people do you think even know what apex means in general, much less the apex of a curve, much less maintaining a line through a curve? It might sound like a racing game to people who play non-arcade racing games, it won't to anybody else.

Maybe alpha/beta tested under an NDA?

Quite enjoying this but had loads of games where my kills/experience have simply not been recorded. Just dumped back to lobby at the end. Pretty frustrating.

I felt the same, but just assumed it was similar to other BR games and they just caught on quickly. I'm personally still running around like a frightened little girl picking up whatever I can but having no idea what any of it is for.

There is probably some experience from being let into Alpha/betas but at the same time. The game plays and feels like titanfall. So as far as gunplay goes, it is super easy to get into and the mastery requires less than an entirely new system.

As I suspected, the game is dope. Polished and fun. 25 matches last night and it’s all I can think about today. Good shit Respawn...
