Basically insulted the mods by making a comparison to re mods. Re mods have banned for far less. Going as far as banning posts with good intentions behind them.
So the ban for Antoon was nothing but inevitable.

Seems pretty petty and thin skinned to me to ban him for ribbing the mods, once, in a thread welcoming him back from a banning. He didn't go on a tirade. I can't even see what he was banned for the first time, it was removed from the ban page I think?

Guy's a racist, between his white baby comment and various remarks about the Jews, including in this thread. He insulted other users here repeatedly (a shitty comment about Jabasse had to be deleted from the Post Pics of Yourself thread), and he obviously had no respect for this place, the users, or the administration.

I think we should be able to make jokes about race without being labelled racist. Pretty soon comedy will be dead as the dodo cause no-one will book anyone who has a history of even broaching the subject of race - or anything deemed discriminatory, which lets face it, is just about anything these days. Sad really.

I don't know where you draw a line but we are at a point even mentioning race is taboo now, and that's not good for dialogue, it's regressive. Someone even mentions race in a joking fashion - or even a non joking (but not racist) manner and the room turns blue. That ain't healthy.
We are supposed to act like race doesn't matter - it shouldn't of course - but it 100% does I'm afraid. We aren't even anywhere near that point in society yet so I think we should get off our high horses. Labelling everything and everyone racist is extremely unhelpful.
Let's face it, every single one of us has had countless "racist" thoughts and actions. People of every colour.

I think it's pretty clear Antoon does have some racist tendencies, this isn't just looking for boogeymen where none exist. But I feel like I'm seeing banning on ideological bases rather than specific infractions, he didn't harass users or go on racial tirades (I didn't see the Jabasse insult, kind of curious. He always struck me as a lighthearted poster who would heed a decent warning)
I don't actually understand the "racists aren't welcome here" line you see on the ban page more frequently, sounds like something you'd see handed out by a Ree mod for some imagined microaggression. I would think you would want to include all good faith posters, regardless of their views, into discussions. We value free speech that isn't harassment, don't we? By all means ban peple who are genuinely creating problems. But just because we disagree with him doesn't mean we can't have productive discussions, or learn from each other. Like are there any specific posts where Antoon gets really into something racist? I see a "Is it a white baby?" comment, and a remark about Jews having big noses. I have no doubt he is a racist on some level, but his post history just seemed fairly tame, and I worry about what kinds of jokes in the future will have me labeled a racist that isn't welcome here.

I don't think people with clear racist tendencies should be kept around personally. A lot of those "racists aren't welcome here" bans have been for people being racist against whites which was good to see as that would be applauded over on Era.
It can be a fine line for sure, and I'm guessing what crossed the line was those racist-lite posts on top of being antagonistic toward the mods in the post here, as well as saying he didn't plan on posting much anyway. Having racist tendencies and basically saying fuck you to the community immediately after coming back from a ban is a good reason to permaban IMO.
For joking, the line is even finer for sure. I'd rather not have racist jokes allowed, but it's very hard to set the line there between mean spirited jokes and say light hearted joking by someone who may be making light of stereotypes about their own race when it's anonymous internet posters. So I'm fine with whatever EviLore and the modes do there. I have no qualms about making use of the ignore thread and user feature to get rid of stuff I personally don't want to see. If there's anything that could use heavier moderation it's all the fanboy, console warrior bickering in the gaming side. Many days there's more of that than there is discussion of gaming news or chatting about what we're playing.

Mentioning race is not a taboo but context is important. I don't think anyone is really oppossed to having a discussion about race either. One thing you should also bare in mind is that humour is subjective and its important as a community to respect that. He's Jew comment was offensive, I'm not even Jewish but I have enough empathy to know that that was a racist comment and it didn't even fit the body of discussion at hand.

This is what I miss most about oldGaf (hot babes thread era GAF, not sjw era) is that the gaming side was moderated heavily and stupid fanboy posts weren't welcome. Oftentimes I will read through a thread and just not bother to respond because for the most part the conversation is just too idiotic to engage in. Hopefully these are just growing pains. The internet needs a proper place to talk about games.
