Nintendo Switch Lite announced

Are they stupid?

Well, yeah. They've been stupid for years. They fall ass backward into success with the original Wii. They were incredibly lucky that it became a fad and then were too incompetent to support it properly, snatching defeat from the jaws of success.

I wanted one but removing the TV capability is a no go. I am sure it still has the USB-C connector so maybe modders can reanable it but sorry. This is just stupid . . . in my opinion. I know they are after the kids but don't remove the best feature!

Hilariously, it would have made more sense to release a really cheap version of it WITHOUT A SCREEN at all. You know, an actual video game console. This machine could be like $100 if all it was was a tiny console that plugged into a TV.

This thing launched solely for reaching that multiple switches at home" goal, and I assume the original Switch probably gonna have some price cut too. Need to know all the specs especially battery life. A good gift for kids for this holiday imo.

Yeah, my wife wants me to get her one. She never uses the dock. And this way we can play some stuff together.

Well I believe it s the only way to release a new device without have a new APU to work with.

Looks like it aims to 3DS crow base.

so same performance smaller screen 5.5' with same 720p . and why screen is not larger size as that border around screen ? why that border even needed ?

The bezel is absolutely amateurish looking. It looks like a cheap Chinese clone knockoff.

Oh just realized no Dock = no Lan adapter = horribly laggy and borderline unplayable smash for some people.

I’m fine with the current model and don’t know that I’ll even upgrade to a Pro if one comes out. Other than some slowdown in Zelda I haven’t hit many frame rate issues and I don’t really care about resolution as I’m only using it for Nintendo games and indies and I’m not playing those for the graphics. New 3DS was a worthless upgrade for me and I figure a Pro Switch to be a similar minke upgrade.

For the Pro, whenever that is shown (which I imagine might me next year) I'll wait to see how pro it actually is.
If it isn't something like straight up 1080p (or more) 60fps breath of the wild then I'll probably stick with my regula Switch too

Battery is probably the exact same and it just lasts longer from cutting down on screen size and some internal bits here and there (like not having an extra interface between the joycons and the system, though joycons also had their own batteries so I dunno.

Yeah, just saw the specs posted a few posts bellow, seems like the battery is a bit smaller but they are claiming 4 hours of battery playing breath of the wild. Which would be around 1 hours more than the regular Switch.
Seems decent enough.

I heard you liked being uncomfortable and having an underpowered system so we gave you this!
cue to shitty music
I hope they fixed the joycon's dead center issues.
Underpowered, its the same as switch that can run current gen games. Never happened before... Lame answer

Seems like it solves pretty much all the problems I had with the original design. I have zero interest in hooking it up to a TV, so I don't mind that omission. It'd make a perfect portable emulation device too... I guess we'll have to see if that's possible.

Isn't its performance similar or even worse than a Pi4?

Except it isn't. It is gonna run undocked so you'll only have "portable" power.

Yes, enlighten us with your superior business knowledge my shitposting friend. How else does Nintendo, a company notorious for making ridiculous amounts of money for like 5 centuries straight, fail to run its business properly?

So you dont know the rumors. They made this handheld for on the go with a cheap price like 2ds. Switch pro will follow and it will have more power, better screen and can be connected on tv....

I don't understand all the negativity around this... If you wanted the docked mode then obviously get the OG model. If you mostly play handheld or want a second handheld only switch at a very good price point then switch lite is for you. Eventually there will probably be a switch+ or pro or something. Nintendo with naming again tho, I kinda wish they hadn't named this switch lite. It may confuse non-gamer purchasers.

It's the same as Labo and the Kirby and Yoshi games etc.

People seem to have a hard time understanding that not every single videogame release has to be marketed specifically for them.

Switch "lite" was never going to be of any interest to me. I don't want a smaller screen. I enjoy connecting to the TV whenever I feel like it. I sometimes use the Joy-cons for table top multiplayer. I already bought the thing 2 years ago so the price is no longer a big deal.

However, if I were a parent looking to get a Switch for my kids or someone interested in handheld only and looking to save a few bucks then this model is pretty much perfect.

Seriously most of the negativity is "I didn't get exactly what I want at the price point I want so Nintendo is the dumbest company ever".

Lets say Nintendo mostly developed this for their Japanese market, that is apparently not that bothered about the "home console mode", and were looking to give them color options (which seems to be a big deal in Japan) and a better price. It still makes sense to release that in other regions so that people have the choice.

In general I just feel like it's not for me and that's fine, I already own a Switch.

Some of the outrage is funny though. Similar to the 2DS.

For portable only that seems good enough, specially since they are saying it has an additional hour of battery life.
And to be fair, the Switch's lack of power is often way more noticeable in docked mode anyway. Due to the small size and resolution of the screen even some of the more demanding games tend to look at least ok in portable mode, but when you blow it up to a 55" 4K TV the blurriness and lack of detail become 10X more noticeable even with the marginal upgrades from docked mode

What a rip off. $200 should be the price for the normal unit. A gimped one should be $149.

If you want that, then just buy the regular Switch...? It's like complaining that the 2DS isn't 3D.

Not gonna lie, a little dissapointed with what I saw. No TV out. That stupid bezel thing they have around the screen. I don't really like the colors either. The Pokemon one looks good though.

Having both would've been nice. I like the smaller form factor, but at the cost of having no TV out? No thanks. Everyday I use the Switch in both TV and handheld mode, whether I'm at work or in bed at night before going to sleep. The "Switch" feature is really important to me. It remains to be seen if it will be possible to have the same account setup on both machines and how easy it will be to transfer saves. If it's not a straightforward process, I won't be getting the Lite anytime soon.

Smaller screen size and the joycons not needing to be powered is the reason it gets the extra hour. I mentioned the undocked "power" for a reason. It isn't even about how blurry things look but how games run worse on docked mode. XC2 and Caligula Effect comes to mind. Or how since you can't change the joycons they would have given us pro controller-like handles cause hand cramps.

A tiny console with no display at like $89.99 would be a really interesting product. It'd be so cheap that it'd be easy to justify just to fuck around with even if you really didn't care about the platform. $200 is already into "investment" territory. It's too expensive for a casual purchase.

Surprised they dropped compatibility with the dock, but otherwise it's pretty much exactly what I hoped for.

The yellow one in particular is exactly my cup of tea too, and will match my custom clear atomic purple original nicely.

This is also going to do gangbusters sales wise, especially with a new pokemon game coming out. Really gotta hand it to Nintendo, they've been as competent in the second half of this gen as they were fucking retarded in the first half. Such a turnaround, and I'm sorry I doubted them.

Now if only they'd announce a new Resident Evil with co-op for the system so I can easily justify to my wife why we need a second one...

I’m not sure what the point or appeal of this is.

The 3DS is on its way out and while the Switch can be used in portable mode it's not really an ideal portable system.
Now this Lite version doesn't fix all of that but it's still smaller, offers an additional hour of battery life and is $100 cheaper so it's a better fit for people looking for a portable only experience , a followup to the 3DS or just simply a cheaper console

A pokemon bundle this christmas has just gone from $350-360 to $250-260 which might not be much to you but will be a serious difference for tons of parents/grandpartents/aunts-uncles buying gifts

It will probably sell well to more casual players, kids, people that for a number of reasons only care about the portable aspect of the Switch and it will probably do really well in places like Japan where handheld/mobile is king

Sure it would be nice, but if it was exactly the same as the regular Switch but just a bit smaller, then there wouldn't be much point in making the device.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

Resident Evil 5 and 6 are coming to Switch later this year.

We have a winner.

Switch – 75,481
PS4 – 6,756
PS4 Pro – 4,547

Now imagine the numbers for this thing when it releases.

While true, this is for people who’d never play docked anyway. So they’d be playing the base model in handheld anyway.

Plus I imagine very few outside of folks like us on forums are buying lan adapters anyway. The dock not having built in Ethernet with an MSRP of $90 to buy separately, was a mistake.

That said, even on PS4 I see a ton of people on WiFi in games that show connection type even though the console has Ethernet. It just is what it is as WiFi is the norm these days and many people don’t have their router near their tv and consoles.

Ok so this is a Switch that's exclusively built for handheld gaming. But I read that it's about the size of a regular Switch with one Joy-Con removed.
That's not exactly slip-it-in-your-pocket small is it? You're still gonna need a bag or something.

$89? No way considering they charge almost that for their pro controller. Home version would be nearly the same price.

Woah.
I'd imagine the cheaper Lite and XL(Pro) models will do extremely great there as well!
Thanks for that link @CaptainFalcon64

No. Going by the Eevee bundle I'm guessing it releases on the same week. Tempting if the newest PKMN wasn't crap.

Until people come to see how games run while portability anyway. If Nintendo is smart they would let you play "boost" mode when it is connected to an outlet to make up for this but they never listen to fan feedback.

In Japan still alive I'm afraid. Maybe now Nintendo can put an end on this.
They aren't making games for it anymore. It is pretty much on life support. Hopefully I can buy a third one for backup once the lite comes out for 50 bucks. :D

Yellow and Cyan my favorite colors. Stop complaining.

Internally, the Switch Lite is largely the same as its older counterpart, with 32GB of storage space and a MicroSD card slot to add more capacity. However, it uses a more efficient processor, according to Nintendo. This, in turn, means its battery life is roughly 20%-30% better. The heat vents at the top of the hardware are also smaller, which enables the overall reduction in the hardware's size.

Here "more efficient" may mean less powerful - and could be the reason why no TV out - because can't do the resolution..

..I hoped they'd go to a 7nm version of the TegraX1 processor in there for better battery life (from 20nm original) - but the +20% perf. doesn't sound like it

It is Nintendo so rarely close or near to cutting edge, so no suprises and continued disappointment

It kinda makes sense. We know the regular Switch isn't as powerful in handheld mode - so perhaps the Switch Lite hardware is matched exactly to the handheld mode requirements, rather than needing to be able to reach the docked clock speeds - making it cheaper to produce? (it's cheaper to buy, so this would make sense...)

Sensible comment

so same performance smaller screen 5.5' with same 720p . and why screen is not larger size as that border around screen ? why that border even needed ?
Smaller screen = $10 cheaper. Uses smaller backlight so there's your extended battery life right there

learn to hate lfe, nintendo, capitalism etc like me

That stupid bezel thing they have around the screen.
Yep.

well smaller screen with same res makes picture better depends what kind of screen there is .
