Cutting out HD rumble is really unfortunate. It’s definitely a cost-cutting move. A handheld portable with rumble would’ve been great. HD rumble is great. I would pay more for it.
I wonder if they went ahead and disabled the TV out because this thing wouldn't fit inside the dock anyway (though it would have worked with the portable one).
More likely it's because, not having vents or fans, it couldn't run in "docked mode" without overheating.
Option 3 is that they just wanted to make it portable only for the sake of a clear marketing distinction--kind of a dick move, and not really necessary, but possible.
Whatever the reason, thanks to that design choice this is not the upgrade for me. Here's hoping the WSJ rumor holds and we get a pro edition early next year.
Hopefully someone here knows this.
Can you have the same Nintendo account on 2 different Switch? If you can, then the no TV out is a non issue. Just use your existing account on the Switch Lite and use the Nintendo Online cloud saves to transfer saves. Regular Switch hooked up to the TV, and Switch Lite for on the go. It's more hassle than "docking" but it works.
Specific? The thread speaks for itself.

If anything, they were downgraded because now it doesn't have to upscale for TV mode.Kinda uggo. Any word on whether the internals have received a boost in any way - more ram, overclock, better screen, etc.?
Not according to thisSo much for the switch pro
This is good for kids but i need a version that allows to play handheld games at native resolution.
Not even a die shrink, nvidia is the worse console partner
edit:
dpad redeemed!
Previous reports stated that Nintendo will integrate updated hardware for all new variants, and this is in line with a recent analysis coming from Tirias Research principal analyst Jim McGregor, who informs that “the new Nintendo Switch [Lite] will take advantage of two generations of die shrinks to its Nvidia Tegra processor… By joining the joycons to the main body of the Switch, Nintendo will squeeze out the expensive and sophisticated wireless joycons and create a mobile-first Switch platform. The die shrink of the Nvidia Tegra processor will provide better battery life and a meaningful [graphics] upgrade.”
Just a rumor, if that was the case Switch lite would be pasively cooled without the need for ventsNot according to this
Nintendo announces Switch Lite handheld console with updated Nvidia Tegra SoC
In order to make the new Switch Lite more portable, Nintendo reduced the screen size to 5.5-inch. Still, the new version comes with an updated Tegra SoC which improves battery life, and it also includes a directional gamepad. The Switch Lite is expected to begin shipping September 20 for US$199.99.www.notebookcheck.net

Why are people complaining about no TV output for a device built exclusively for handheld play?

A couple of things.
- Will you need to be always online for any Switch other than your primary?
- Will you be able to sync saves between Switch even for games that don't have cloud save support (like Pokemon)?
If you have to be always online for your games to work on a handheld only device...well that would suck.
Personally, it's not that it's necessary but being a huge fan of the Switch, I will get this no matter what. It looks more portable and it's also for the novelty of using a different model. I'm probably in the minority willing to pay 200$ for these things.I'm pretty sure you can but are people who already own a Switch really going to buy another just for handheld which you can already do?
You know these probably won't be hackable for quite a while, right? Updated Tegra and no joycon rails mean there won't be any RCM exploits possible. The current software exploits they released last week only work on 4.0 firmware and below (which these definitely won't ship with).Thinking about getting one just for emulation.
Sega mega drive
NES
Super Nintendo
N64
And more on the go.
Which people? From the moment it was announced they straight up said “handheld only”Being able to SWITCH how you play was the main focus of the Nintendo SWITCH.
Because of this, people were expecting the SWITCH Lite to do the same.
Not necessarily, even with a die shrink they still could be smaller less powerful fans just to keep it cool to the touch along with keeping temps in check.Just a rumor, if that was the case Switch lite would be pasively cooled without the need for vents

Like all things, it'll be just a matter of time I'm sure - and the fact that users have basically root kernel level access on the non IPATCHED models will help move things along. The people who know what they're doing will have to get their hands on these new Lites - but buying a Switch Lite just to put emulators on it might be something feasible years from now rather than right around the corner.

Doubt it, Switch SoC is on 20nm going to 16nm brings substantial power reductions, let alone 10nm 0r 7nmNot necessarily, even with a die shrink they still could be smaller less powerful fans just to keep it cool to the touch and temps.
No one wants a handheld that makes there your hands hot and sweaty.

Are they stupid? I wanted one but removing the TV capability is a no go. I am sure it still has the USB-C connector so maybe modders can reanable it but sorry. This is just stupid . . . in my opinion. I know they are after the kids but don't remove the best feature!
I like looking at the positives: it's $100 cheaper and it plays Switch games.Cause the hardware is superior AND cheaper, smaller screen of course but that isn't necessarily a negative either.
Unless there is a specific reason this version is unable to output to TV, why the hell wouldn't you be complaining at the stunted functionality? Especially as they kept "switch" in the name.
Yes, and within that time gaf was babbling about a switch pro and a *possible* handheld only device which originally started the arguments regarding the semantics of the name switch. There was a significant amount of time before the official announcement. You may have missed out on it. It lasted about a year or so.
Get rid of the skittles then id be all over that white one.OK, but where are these versions?
They did say that, how much longer is another story.Doubt it, Switch SoC is on 20nm going to 16nm brings substantial power reductions, let alone 10nm 0r 7nm
Besides they would have advertised longer battery life.
Nintendo says the Lite features “slightly” improved battery life — the company wouldn’t get any more specific than that — due to a more power-efficient chip layout, as well as the lack of additional batteries in the built-in controllers.
I have no idea to be honest. Sorry. I only have one Switch at the moment. But I don't think so as a answer to your first question...
Official FAQ:
You can link your Nintendo Account to multiple consoles. However, you can only activate one console per Nintendo Account. Games that you’ve downloaded with your Nintendo Account will only be playable on the one active console for your account.
It's a handheld that plays Switch games. If they dropped Switch from the name, they would most likely have another marketing disaster like the Wii U.Being able to SWITCH how you play was the main focus of the Nintendo SWITCH.
Because of this, people were expecting the SWITCH Lite to do the same.
The smaller compact design may alleviate some that issue (i considered the switch to be a little too wide honestly)One thing that did stand out is their decision not to give it some girth. The normal Switch makes my hand go number after a while, I really hope this alleviates it somehow.
How dare youGet rid of the skittles then id be all over that white one.
...and again you refuse to be specific. Do I have to come right out and ask what specifically you think is unnecessary bitching?

I find colored buttons to look tacky. Colored letters ala xbox one, ps4 and n3ds xl are fine though. How dare you
Why are people complaining about no TV output for a device built exclusively for handheld play?
Perhaps to improve battery life they added a limiter to prevent the overclocking via docked mode from kicking in.Don't be obtuse. Pleople likes the form factor, the lighter weight, the d-pad... and think Nintendo could have made it possible to have TV output as well, as on the surface, it doesn't look like a massive problem to include it.
Real talk, what exactly makes the Switch Lite exclusively built for handheld play? Maybe worst cooling so it can't work at regular Switch's docked performance?
