Ikumi Nakamura leaves Tango Dreamworks

As of today though, Nakamura surprisingly announced that she has now departed from Tango. Nakamura released a tweet this afternoon saying, “After 9 years as Creative director & Art Director at Tango and Zenimax – I felt here is one of ends of the journeys. I learned from the talented people I’ve worked with and I respect.” Nakamura doesn’t seem to have another opportunity lined up at the moment either, ending her tweet by saying that she’s open working with new people and attaching a link to her LinkedIn profile.

The game was only just announced, so it could be over a year away from release (or did I miss something?)
Still, it is odd, she seems pretty cool in that interview for the first Evil Within.

really? Her?!
unexpected.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat. So bummed out, was really looking forward to her directing Ghostwire: Tokyo. The timing surely is strange too I feel...

Super strange considering Mikami picked her as one of the directors within Tango.

Perhaps he’ll have to direct again...;)
She wasn't director of the game, she was the creative director. Which means that if the game releases next year or so her work is very likely already done for the game.

Interesting development after she stole the show at the Bethesda press conference. I have no idea what impact this has on the game as I am not to familiar with her outside of that stage performance. Is Tango owned by Bethesda?

Maybe she wasn’t all she was hyped up to be? TEW2 was decent at best, but honestly a bit of a letdown if I’m honest.

Lol, I'm new here, but his is sarcasm right? That post looks like it belongs on Resetera.

I just asked for a ban from that wretched place.
You'll find a diverse range of people here, both skewing left and right or even a few dreaded centrists so it's often not so clear but you'll get to know everyone soon enough. Welcome to Neogaf!

Doesn’t sound like a very happy departure, leaving in the middle of a project without another project lining up, Hopefully shinji mikami will be back to his former glory to save the title.

"Insider info" from 4chan, so take it with a large grain of salt:

Yo I actually have friends at Tango and she's not the only one getting cut.
Zeni are apparently doing some housekeeping on the non Bethesda studios since they've all been doing mediocre or underperforming the past few years besides id.
Two have told me Ghostwire is probably getting canned

>Openworld Tokyo recreation featuring Shibuya, Asakusa, Sugamo, Chiba, and Akihabara downscaled and shifted beside eachother through shortcuts and strange geographic phenomena
>Entire map is mostly devoid of life but is instead populated by dozens of yokai and modern cryptid creations, like an SCP facility had a breach under the city
>You explore it looking for other human denizens while dealing with the bizarre things you encounter along the way - such as kappa who lurk near water, roads that endlessly loop due to ghosts trapping you on them till you find the spot they died and leave tributes, cyborg samurai statues come to life and acting on fictional wars they believe are ongoing, and other spooky shit
>You're looking for your little sister who left a message right after shit got weird at midnight and trying to figure out what caused everything to go wrong
>Heavy emphasis on puzzle solving, exploration, stealth, and improvised weaponry (for the last point think dead rising juryrigging shit together and scavenging supplies.
>Major themes were tradition vs modernity, family, mysticism, shinto, and the limits of human kindness in disasters
>Heavily inspired by old ghost stories, Makai Tensho, 80s+90s japanese horror films, american sci fi, and the stories that emerge after natural disasters of how people survive them

Color me surprised at this news. The last thing I expected of Ikumi Nakamura was bowing out after that cute presentation she gave at E3. I wish her all the best and find herself in better waters.

Eh. There could be truth to that. But I think it's better we never know as it's none of our business anyway. After the Zoe Quinn/Alec Holowka shitshow I think it's better the internet stay out of the lives and inner dealings of game developers.

Weird, wonder how much this will impact GW:T’s development.. You would think she would have at least waited until it finished development, something isn’t right about this.

Some dude must've pinched her cute bum too many times.....

Kojima secretly poached her.

It really does sound weird. Very out of nowhere for the face for this game to just leave months later. Hopefully someone is looking into this and we find out more. Seems so odd. Hopefully she finds a new place soon in the industry. She, and her game, was a real bright spot of this years e3 for sure.

I don't think anyone wants to pry into the personal lives of anyone involved, even less judging any party. The whole thing is just too bizarre especially after the positive reception of both the game's reveal and Nakamura herself.

Besides, I see that a certain online forum has already begun developing different conspiracy theories about the whole thing. Figures a lot of them wouldn't need a single fact or confirmation to make their minds about the situation.

But of course. A woman in the game industry resigns seemingly out of nowhere and the oppressive male patriarchy is to blame!

I'm laughing but also kind of sad in a way. They are so goddamn predictable.
