I think Death Stranding is going to flop and I'm scared

As long as it will be fun for me, I don't think I should care what others think about it.
I very much enjoyed the gameplay of MGS V enough to return once in a while to mess around. Even if the story sucked, or well, wasn't at all finished.

So in that regard it might be the same here. If I understood it right it has stealth mechanics. As long as those are good, then I should probably enjoy this game. I absolutely love stealth games.

financially I think it will be fine, review wise it will be ok, substance and gameplay is up in the air until we get our hands on it but yes not much has been shown either purposely or that it is the games flaw. I personally think purposely hes done it in the past.

Has the veil been lifted though? There is so much we haven’t seen yet.
Yeah, you are right Digity. I want to know where in the story we get to see the WWII session, the homo demons themselves, what caused the Death Stranding too. Oh, can't wait to see how they mass produce and dispose of the BBs.

Are you seriously comparing HZD to Death Stranding? HZD, the game with no traversal machanics and dumb stealth to a game full of traversal mechanics and systemic design?
WTF is going on with posters about Death Stranding, it's like a meme conspiracy of people pretending not understanding how the game is played...
iu
Riding a robotic dinosaur isn't a traversal mechanic?

Aloy could run, climb, slide, roll, mount, sashay, shimmy and probably moonwalk. What planet did you play HZD on?

There is almost no chance that it will not be profitable. That said, it looks like it probably won't be a good game to me.

I don't think the game will flop and honestly I hope it doesn't.

For me personally, the game has an enigmatic vibe, and I don't see Kojima gathering the cast he gathered to deliver a shitty story.

As for gameplay, I don't think we saw everything there is to see. He just showed what he wanted us to see.

It's one of those games that I think it will either resonate with people right away or it just won't.

I kinda want it to fail, because I'm sick and tired of people praising Kojima as if he's some kind of messiah of gaming.

I also don't appreciate the setting of this game. It gives me the impression it's trying to be weird for the sake of being weird.

It's Kojima's pretentious bullshit up to eleven, and I really want it to bite him in the ass.

I hate myself for saying it, but I kind of agree. I was hoping that after Metal Gear he'd no longer have the opportunity to indulge the eccentric style he'd built around himself with that series, and I think that if he'd have gone to Nintendo or MS he'd have had to rein himself in a bit by necessity. He's a brilliant game designer, always has been, always will be, but I feel like his weirdo gimmick can cast an undesirable shadow over his games, and even outright get in the way at times. I was dreading him going to Sony, because I knew exactly what they'd do- throw blank cheques at him and not only endorse his ambiguity and pretentiousness, but encourage it. And they did.

I'm still buying Death Stranding and I'm looking forward to it, but some of the things Kojima has been saying about the game lately lead me to believe it might be an underwhelming package in some regards. We'll see.

While true, it's still traversal. More than I can say about Death Stranding. In HZD I can climb cliffs, laders, run along logs, climb robo-girraffes, hang onto ledges and so on. How is this even an arguement? I'm not even saying DS is bad and everyone gets bent out of shape because I compared the gameplay mechanics to HZD which they are very obviously the same, give or take some nuances.

I don't know what DS is doing now (media blackout), but I thought it was in line with the Monolith open worlds (XCX and BotW) style of free traversal.
In that case, me going "how the fuck do I get there..." is something real I can set my mind to and possibly accomplish, as opposed to "can I go there?" [Humps geometry for button prompt] "nope!" - or "yup!" [Plays zero stakes Dragon's Lair] is fun for my eyes.

Horizon/Uncharted/God of War/Tomb Raider designated rock climbing areas isn't real traversal. It may as well be a launch code for jetpack, or a gearshift for an invisble elevator for all gameplay is concerned.

Am I off base? Does DS have "press X to ladder" spots?

Hell ya dude, we still have no idea about the upside down world, Higgs and his goons, that giant bt that caused a void out in the 2017 trailer. So much left to see. Personally I can’t wait. Kojima is just having fun at the moment. “Oh you guys want some gameplay, here’s a 30 minute video of Sam peeing and sitting in a small room.” Lol

Why do you bring up Horizon traversal in comparison to DS? Horizon has standard traversal mechanics like any other tps. DS has unique mechanics isn't it obvious?

Regardless, Sony fanboys will buy it in droves and enjoy it because the Internet tells them to enjoy it.

Or maybe we will buy it cause we generally like Kojima games and are looking forward to something a bit different. Much like how Concrete Genie is quite different.

There is nothing to be afraid of, Kojima Productions pockets are not empty, if the game flops, the next game should be better.

I dont know, if its bad i hope it flops so Kojima learns a lesson because of it. If its good, i hope it gets recognition and good sales. All i know at this moment is that its kinda a joke between me and some friends who cant unsee it as a Globo (messaging-delivery service at least here in Spain) simulator.

Attached, globo guy on the road. Now you cant unsee it and you can use the joke.

Not gonna lie, not a fan of the way the game is handled, i mean, the most important thing about a game is its gameplay, yet here we are, so little time before launch and now we are getting more gameplay and details.

Man, that’s such a shitty mindset. You want a game to fail just because you personally don’t like the game and fuck everyone else who do.

OT: Just stop relying too much on review score. Even if the game gets 10/10 from all reviewers it doesn’t grantee you are going to enjoy the game. RDR2 got bunch of 10/10 but I know my taste in games and I knew this game was not going be for me regardless what score it got in reviews.

This is a weird take. These posts are showing up because we just recently got long gameplay footage and Kojima has been doing a bunch of interviews.

Nah, TGS was awhile back and unless you were really invested you wouldn't have bothered to scratch around for translations of Kojima's commentary, which was far more illustrative of what the games going to be like than the footage by itself.

Also, explain posts like this to me then:

I haven't been following it to closely mostly the major press events but I think it looks more interesting then when it was first announced and I am more likely to buy now then when I first heard about it.

I don’t care either way. I haven’t enjoyed a Kojima game since MGS. Everything since has been very meh to me and almost a chore to play. I don’t mind long cut scenes but even control and gameplay wise it’s been very blah. MGS 5 finally had some decent controls but the game was terrible in pretty much all other aspects for me.

Certainly nothing about DS so far looks appealing to me and some of his own comments about the game makes it feel he is trolling.

Lmao, there is absolutely zero chance of it flopping. Everyone hoping for it to fail is destined for disappointment.

We have had a number of threads here on GAF just recently regarding things Kojima has said about the game.

It’s just a game. I’ve enjoyed plenty of things that bombed or were disappointed in things I was hyped for. Life moves on, there’s always other things.

IV been saying its gonna flop for a bit. From the gameplay it looks boring. I feel like a good part of the budget went to the famous people in it. Has fps issues. When hes saying you wont like it till halfway though well thats bad design imo. I hope I'm wrong

No, silly. I want the game to fail because Kojima has reached a point where he thinks he can make whatever nonsensical crap he thinks of when he's on drugs and people will still buy it in droves.

It reminds me of certain art exhibits where some 'artist' makes a painting which is basically some weird lines and you see other people go like 'wow, what an amazing masterpiece'. It makes me throw up in my mouth a little.

I'm sure there will be people who will call it a masterpiece (it's their right), but I think that this will be more because it's a Kojima game than anything else.

Or you could just ignore his games. You might not like what Kojima makes but other people do thats why they are his fans.

From what has been shown until now, I would most definitely watch a 2 hours Death Stranding movie (looks amazing honestly), and would definitely NOT play a 20/30/40 hours game.

Yeah, it is not over yet. I like to think that Kojima is just playing us like a damn fiddle.

You can ignore someone and still believe he's overrated.

I'm not saying he can't have fans. I'm just buffled by the amount.
Again I don't see any reason his games should flop just because you personally don't like him. In my opinion modern R* games are terrible to control and absolutely fails to be proper game but should it flop? No, because as much as I no longer enjoy their games, other people do and R* are free to make whatever they want but I just no longer their target audience.

I hope it flops and that Kojima loses all of his money to medical bills in a failed suicide attempt over it.
As someone that lost a close friend this weekend to suicide. I feel this is a really bad taste joke by you. I can understand you not liking the guy but you can be better than that. Just ignore Kojima's existence and move on with your life.

Even if the gameplay is crap it will score 90+ because of kojima and because people eat movie games like candy.

I am also tired of kojima being treated like a god. The man made some masterpieces (MGS 1 is one for me) but i cant stand the hype and people treat each of his games as one before they even see gameplay.

I wish it will be a masterpiece, i mean why i wouldnt like to play a great game, but i also dont give a fuck if it flops because i will laugh with the reactions.
