Stick drifting on Switch Lite confirmed

Could be, could be. We should wait and see if more than Lite shows the issue, for sure.

Speak of the devil:

(This one's a little weird. Normally you determine drift by taking your thumb off the stick. Here we see the input return to neutral while the thumb is pulling the stick to the left. I suppose it's drift, though.)

That's really odd "drift". For me the drift I've always got on cheap third party pads has been the analogue drifting to one side whilst it's center. This looks more like a dropped input than actual "drift".

Did you pour it into the Joycon? I'd be nervous to do that since ethanol absorbs water vapor in the air and water can damage electronic components. Joycons with charged batteries would be susceptible to liquid damage I would think.
You just need to use almost pure ethanol (usually 96%).

Very unscientific but Nintendo Life took a poll and out of 600+ respondents, 10% said drift on their Lites was already “severe.”

(I do have a hard time believing it could be that high already.)

That site have one of the most garbage Nintendo communities I've ever encountered, with other console trolls swarming in triggering some woke people there time to time.

Just an anecdote from me.

While I can believe idiot fanboys invade each other’s forums to stir the pot over consoles they can’t afford and/or their parents won’t buy for them (console wars are a sad fact of life in gaming), “woke” ideology and “triggering” has nothing to do with the subject.

Unrelated, but their relationship remains.

If something is unrelated, then there literally is no relationship. Semantics aside, it would be nice to not drag ideology into this thread. That’s all I’m saying. If that other site has issues with that sort of thing, then please leave it there.

Back on topic, it’s sad to see Nintendo having an issue like this. Whether it’s overblown or not, we’ll see.

Isn't it a wear and tear issue? I mean they do wear out too quickly, but this quickly considering the Lite just came out? I've had my Switch for almost two years and my sticks hasn't started drifting. They probably would eventually, but I just use my pro controller now.

It could be, of course, but mine started to drift within 6 months. I used them a lot in that period but not more than any other controller for a new console. When you take one a part you can see how flimsy everything is. I think it's because of all the tech they have to cram into these small controllers like gyro, hd rumble etc. I'm not an engineer though. I needed a step by step guide with lots of pictures just to replace mine

I feel like I worded it out wrong and it made you misunderstood, or something. I'm just saying what is happening there, just in that site, clearly it does not in any way me wanting to inject any ideologies bullshit.

I'm not happy I'm the one to blame for dragging this though. Still, moving on.

Agreed, moving on. I probably did misinterpret intent, so my apology for any misunderstanding.

New video from a previous complainant. He shows a bit of built-in stick test, which is really key to determining drift IME. I see one moment of possible obvious drift but his thumb isn't in view at that precise moment, so I'm not 100% sure.

At this point the idea of "rushing" seems to fit, since people pretty much like to parrot the fact that "this and pokemon will farm like hotcakes". 2DS were kinda garbage as well, but its for pokemon.

My GC and it's controllers are still working fine. It's not that I just like them, but I find impressive how much they're lasting considering before that I had N64, and their controllers were a crap(although I could still somewhat play on them until a certain point).

So I dropped my og xbox out of lifted pick up truck by accident and it bounce about 10 feet it was scratched but still works.

This gen x1 seems to be built best followed by ps4 and then switch. Such a switch in terms of quality lol

Nintendo has filed a new version of the Switch Lite with the FCC. Digital Trends ties this to the drift issue, but there's no evidence yet this is intended to address that.

Cannot believe they released the Switch Lite in this condition though, it might be too little too late here
I mean the sales aren't fantastic so far are they?

I used compressed air on my Joycons and the drift went away from what it seems.

Edit: nope, just flew across the screen to the right..

wtf. I never cared too much because the joy cons could be switched out, but when they're built-in... woooo-boy. Nintendo are hitting boycott-tier garbage this gen. I've always loved the concept and execution of Switch, since I initially heard about a hybrid system so many years ago, but form the time I touched the original packaging on launch-day for the Switch, it felt and looked cheap and also felt rushed.

Anyway, I'm still enjoying my Switch, but Iwata should be spinning.

This problem will continue until sony, ms and nintendo stop buying the cheapest potentiometers Alps electric can make. This things cost them like 50 cents, no joke.

Just sent both of my left joycons back for free repair.

Un-freaking-real.

I first called Nintendo and they have a prompt in their call menu telling you to set up a repair online if your joycon “aren’t working properly”. I set up the repair online and they sent me a shipping label. Lol

I guess it’s good they’re repairing them for free, but how long will these be “fixed”? Are they just going to replace the sticks with the same faulty sticks and I get to do this all over again in 8-12 months? I’m guessing YES on that. God knows when I’ll get my “fixed” joy con back.

Nintendo continues to be silent on this issue other than offering free repairs. Are they going to change the design? Can it be changed at this point? Nintendo had a legit smash hit with the Switch and this joycon issue is a huge turd in the punch bowl.

All of this DEFINITELY gives me pause when I think about buying games for my Switch. Why bother if playing games is such a pain with these shitty sticks? I’ve spent more time and money on my Xbox lately because I don’t have faith in the Switch hardware.

Wow, that's unacceptable. Even more so than the standard Switch since you can't just use a different Joycon.

I recently played the DQXI demo and pressing the left analog stick would advance the dialog. That would be a disaster with stick drift...

IT's all bs..

1) they sold hundreds of thousands of these things already. So a few people reporting issues, assuming they are even valid, is a non-story.

2) Nintendo repairs all joycons in the US for free even if out of warranty. I don't see why this would not also apply to the Switch Lite going forward if it runs into the same issue.

3) Switch Lites can still be returned to the retailer for money back.

4) Switch Lites have a 1 yr warranty.

5) big corporations with $$$$ always have many many lawsuits against them at all times.

6) the only people that will win in the end if any are the lawyers.

I think Nintendo has no idea why Switch has done well. Removing the ability for this thing to dock goes directly opposite of their messaging for the last two plus years. They also keep announcing new products that don’t work with it.

‘To me, it seems like they are just trying everything and hoping some of it works out for them: ring fit, brain age, handheld only switch, etc.

I have 3 sets of Joycon as well as a switch lite. Neither I or my friends/family have had this issue and I am questioning how wide spread this really is.

Cool. When it happens, let us know. If Nintendo has quit offering free repairs by then, I’m pretty experienced at replacing Joy-Con sticks. I’ll walk you through it.

Yeah almost like
The switch is selling great.

This was the point behind my post here. I remember seeing a lot of people freaking out that the Switch Dock was scratching their screens, that PS4s were bricking on launch, etc. It all turned out to be just a few thousand out of millions of owners, which is a very tiny amount of people.

even the ALPS analog modules on xbox and playstation eventually have drift as well so its going to be hard to turn around public perception on this even if the failure tolerance is on par with other consoles.

It is times like this, where we truly need GIFs with sound effects.

This is a "Nelson, Laughing", kind of moment.

Weird. I’ve had my Switch for like 4 months and play almost exclusively in handheld, haven’t had any issues. Does it show up after longer use more?
