The Outer Worlds Xbox One X versus PC (This is disappointing)

I’ve been playing on a PS4 Pro for a few hours and it looks much more like the PC screenshot in the OPs post.

Obviously, not quite as good, but not far off.

That’s surely got to be a bug on the Xbox One X screenshot? Looks terribad.

Hopefully it gets patched soon for X owners or that’s a bit embarrassing for MS.

Did you all miss my post on page 2 with a screenshot taken from the Xbox one X version?

OP is full of shit, it’s nothing like that ingame. Possibly he encountered a bug or streaming/loading issue, but the games nothing like that.

This is what the game looks like on my own Xbox one X (screenshot taken on the system by me today, sadly compressed but gets the point over)

Look at the ground texture, the AO/shadow lass etc. The pics the OP posted are nothing like what it looks like.

We didn't miss your post. You're blind, your pic is even worse than OP's.

Forgive me if I don’t listen to a Sony soy boy. Go wank off over the Last Of Us trailer, eh?

In my shot, other than compression, shading and lighting matches correctly. Not as good as ultra pc setting but you would have to be an idiot to think that would happen anyway.

I’ve already explained possible foliage reasons on page 2, and the technical details behind it.

What are YOU doing, other than getting a semi at negative Xbox news?

Bit sad, really.

RTFO. He's talking about 4k textures, not shading and lighting.

Typical of xbox fan making this into a console war.

As far as I can see you’re not contributing anything to this thread so why are you here?

And as for “4k textures”, the expression is used for many different things. It doesn’t just equal “textures in 4k resolution” because even the 360 supported 2048x2048 mips. It just means higher res textures, in some form. And from what I can see, yes, they are there, but the source media is full of noise and not very good anyway, so you won’t get much of a boost from that.

But the original screenshots DO show big differences in other ways. Shadow map LODs seem to have different fade distances and penumbra settings, AO is scaled back, foliage has already been discussed in my previous post, and for some reason, shadows are all in really odd positions, likely due to time of day randomness.

You’re adding nothing to this thread, so, you know, piss off.

Tell me about it. As a console gamer with a 1080p TV set (don't MOST people still rock this native res?) it frustrates me that the Pro and the X both push for 4k ahead of a solid, stable 60fps. Speaking honestly, it's one of the biggest attractions of Stadia.

Most poor people maybe, 4K TVs are a commodity.

4k tvs are cheap as hell these days, £250 for a 40” 4k one, come on lol. Of course they are expensive if you want a decent one, but that’s on you.

My bloody daughters great grandmother has a 4k tv ffs, come on.

Next time read the op before you call someone full of shit. Even the Pro version looks better. Now piss off since you're not really helping.

1080p/60fps over 4k/30fps any day of the week

Same for me. It’s downright painful now to play modern games in 30 frames and gladly take advantage of 60FPS modes when offered.

We had more 60FPS games two generations ago, which is just sad. I could almost forgive it in the first HD generation, but not anymore.

1440p minimum is a nice compromise as 1080p on a 50 inch plus tv is looking a bit jaggy/blurry these days when close.
At 60fps

That's exactly the problem. We had plenty of games that were 50/60 over the decades, depending on your region. There were plenty that weren't, and we accepted the limitations often enough, but it's just hard to enjoy less than that in modern games IMO.

I watched a Resero vid on this yesterday, and it is noticeable. I personally love the artstyle and think it looks good on the X, though its a shame that the foliage is weaker. Hopefully just a bug, and I hope its corrected later or we get some basic gfx options between more environmental detail and fps. Pro looks great. I'd imagine Obsidian will do more going forward with MS console optimization.

Frankly I find it amazing that there are so many ways to play. My best buddy is married with a new kid, and for such a low cost of entry he gets to play such a great game. He usually sticks to free-to-play fair for obvious reasons, and he messaged me yesterday simply saying "I miss games like this man". And his youngest brother in HS got a cheap Black Friday OG One and with gamepass also gets to enjoy it. Is it not the most pristine version? Of course but for those who can't afford it or haven't even occurred to them they don't even notice and appreciate what they've got. Not saying the criticism isn't valid mind, but as a kid back in the 80's and 90's I'd never have thought that there really are so many ways to play. And with cross-play its even better.

Probably because there were more Japanese developers who generally prioritized frame rate over visuals.

I think what people are saying is why go for 4k if you have to have sizeable downgrades to reach 4k. Why not go 1800p or 1620p with no downgrades.
Its a fair point to be honest.
I mean i'm playing at 1080p/60 on PC and the AA is so clean, sharp and jaggie free, that i dont know why they targeted 4k anyway.

Its up to the developer to choose what balance they have... the xbox one x is a 4 k console it was literally designed to play the same graphics and same fps as the other consoles but at 4k.

Smaller developers dont have time or resources to tweak everything they can for each console and are usually focused on the rest of development.

Im still unsure why there is a thread about this given...
A) every game on max is better than every console version
B) every game has almost identical graphics ( apart from textures) on all consoles ... except for res difference

Thanks for saying that. People fundamentally misunderstand how mipmapping works and assume that 4K is bumping the level 0 map to 4096x4096.

No he's right, your picture looks just as bad as mine does but at a different time of day. All the same equally bad though.

Meanwhile I preloaded but it's STILL downloading from MS's crappy servers. Currently at 7.2KB/sec because why would they want you to play the games you paid for game pass to play?

The biggest disappointment I have with my Xbox One X is that there are very few games that actually provide performance enhancements with the extra power. Overwhelmingly they instead favor 4k resolutions and effects that don't make any difference on my 1080p displays and often times the game runs even worse than on the stock XBOne. I had the same disappointment with the PS4 Pro but all of the hype about the X had me believing it would be more than just a 4k machine.

Game looks ugly even when running at max on PC.
You may need one, also.

There no reason for XBX to look so downgraded at 30fps compared to PC.

Blame devs for doing shit port job and learn from likes of Rockstar who made massive open world game running at native 4k with high graphics settings on X.

Also why we comparing 1000$ PC rigs vs console which is under 500$ and not even using latest hardware anymore. X hardware not latest outside Ram.

Save your comparisons till next year

Obsidian is world famous for making ugly ,buggy amd and poorly optimised games. MS really need to provide them with good coders and programmers.

Playing on PC at 1440p Ultra.

The game can look beautiful at the right lighting conditions. But sometimes it looks straight up like shit.
The choice of colour palette is sure an odd one. Are there any ENB mods or something available already which modify it?

I'm on a 9700k/gtx 1080. Whole pc cost me 950. You dont need a beast rig for this game. PC is always going to be the best if you can do the upfront costs. This shouldn't be a mystery to anyone. Why the xbox one x port went for max resolution instead of level of detail is crazy though.

runs fine on i7 gtx 1060 laptop all maxed just draw distance lowered . with ps4 controller as xbox runs fine... not best looking but its enough. thought unreal 4 could do better for sure.
so pc is best platform for this game. doesnt need high specs too. but it doesnt feel like AAA game, not even fallout 4 level and thats aold game, and even graphics not that much better , yes some details are great and all , but then enemies live just on specific places and nowhere else and they not smartest ones.

Ok after playing the PC version, there's just really no comparison. Playing at 144 fps is just too much to overlook. I'm playing at 1080p but the game is not a graphical masterpiece where that would matter much. I do miss the HDR a bit but framerate is king. It's borderline unplayable with all the screen jutter.
