I don't want this, vr kinda sucks and I've had almost all headsets... 500euro for s or quest is already a lot of money but iq is better than index and inside tracking is great. You can still do fingers and hold a gun anyway...
A game for 3 people who got index instead of hl3 is outrageously bad...

Even if You have index, you still need great eyesight, some room and cope with pixels, lenses, sweet spot, sweat and general vr illness. Those vr headsets Ive all sold after a month and I am alway super hyped until I get a new model for a month...
I do t want vr to take off anymore.
I dont want fucking sweating on my face, playing in what looks like aliased 720p, having hair ruined, being cut off from the rest of the house, being tied to a cablr and all of that tor 1k. The tech is the same since 2013

People asking for HL3 for over a decade, we get a VR game that nobody cares. VR in gaming was a failure. Valve lost all his magic. The new Artifact.

TBH, Valve hasn't been interested in making games for over a decade so it's not surprising, their platform prints money without them having to spend any.Sso why would they spend money to make games that's infinitely harder and more expensive. For their fans? They don't care, it's all about the money.

Valve is just another Blizzard / Bethesda / Bio-ware / your old favorite / -type of studio, they were once great, the people who made it great moved on and all they have now is their name.

You would be dead wrong. A lot of people who made the original games are still at Valve. You can stop now.

Personally I just don't care anymore. I'd be super pissed 10 years ago when all hope for HL3 was not yet lost, but I've come to terms with the fact that it's never coming out.

Maybe this is just a taste of the real Half-Life 3 that (never) comes out.

A little precum before the mighty ejaculate so to say.

Of course, they are, I mean why step off the Steam money carousel going around and around versus having to go to a firm where actual results are expected? Versus coming up with an idea, working on it for a bit then abandon it when the going gets tough? Valve stopped being a AAA developer of note quite some time ago. Announcing a HL sidebar VR title for the 1% (which I'm part of FTR) as if somehow that's a good thing when the conclusion to the Episodic Trilogy is still MIA 10+ years on just reads like 'we had a VR idea, let's leverage the HL IP to gain some press interest'

So Valve finally remembers they make games? Color me surprised. Too bad they decided to make it a VR game instead of the game everyone has been waiting for for the last billion years.

I don’t even have anything to say. No witty comment or anything... I’m shocked. Actually shocked.

shocked that valve are releasing a half life game for one, but more so that the people who made them who they are, the fans, are still waiting...

awful....

Is this some kind of joke?

Listen, Valve, let me help you out here. If you release a title to cash in on a specific franchise's prior success you're only going to make money if the people who played the previous games can play the new cash grab. This thing? You might as well release Half Life: That One Scientist Who Hid During The First Game for the Vita.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
Salty tears. I feel for the people who can't use two hands to play games but other than those cases (which sadly are always going to be excluded for some games, in or out of VR, just as things in real life some times require two hands), this is part of the future of gaming (no, nobody says they're gonna replace flat games, just as 3D games didn't replace 2D games, though for some ignorant people around here they might as well have done that, lol) that the enthusiasts already participate in given existing great content and some people need to deal with it or go back to playing Doom with a keyboard because a mouse is expensive and unnecessary, or software rendered Quake because 3D accelerators are expensive and unecessary, and so on, lol. I can (not can't) wait for this because there are plenty great VR (and non VR) games to play but it's exciting stuff for sure :)

As much as I hate era, they're not acting like a bunch of cry babies with this announcement surprisingly. They're extremely excited.

I'm in love with the salt here though, it brings me life. As an avid HL fan and VR owner, it's on.

2 more exclusive VR AAA projects are still unannounced too
:)

We ain't outta here in ten minutes, we won't need no rocket to fly through space
Expected no less. Glad we have a Vive at work everyone borrows whenever something juicy comes out and then swiftly returns the next day.

I bet near the end, for whatever reason, Gordon looks at the player and has one line. Something throwaway like "thank you". I'd put money on it.

I'm gonna try and remember to unearth this post when the game's out.

Its really funny when you think about it. It feels like the most epic troll ever, even though its probably not intentional(better if it was with all the bitching)

Not only is this different game than HL3, the game's existence literally delays a possible HL3 even longer.

It took over 3 years to finish this VR game. And to hold you over you wait for HL3, you need a fucking VR headset while wait another 4+ years just for a potential chance to play HL3 without VR.

Do you think someone kept playing the 3 is the magic number song to Gabe and now he has a fear of threes ?

I didn't think there would ever be another Half-Life game to be honest. They're calling it a VR game, does that mean you absolutely must have a VR headset to play it or just that it's VR compatible? If it's the former then that seems like a bad idea to me. Most gamers don't have VR headsets do they? So that means most of us won't get to experience the game and from a business standpoint I don't know why Valve would want to limit themselves to a small chunk of the market.

A lot of people don't remember this, but Half Life 1 and 2 revolutionized how video games worked. 1 was the first FPS to have scripted cinematic set pieces, and 2 was the first AAA game to use a physics engine as part of the gameplay. My guess is they wanted to do something new and exciting with VR, but couldn't pull it off to the level needed to justify calling it Half Life 3.

To all the VR enthusiast here - you guys DO realize that because of VR limitations, this HL will be waaay more gimped compared to its predecessor than Crysis 2 vs Crysis was? Sure, the VR is absolutely brilliant for looking around while sitting on your ass, like driving or flying simulator, but there's a reason VR didn't excell in anything beyond that, and Valve making it won't magically overcome the issues/limitations. It's like Land Rover trying to turn an F1 car into a great off-roader, while all people really wanted was just another Discovery...

What you see as limitations, I see as innovation. There is a reason people who own a headset are so excited over this. I don't understand why some people are so against technology pushing forward.

I'm loving the meltdowns all over the internet about this. If it had been HL3VR it would have turned into a supernova, LOL.

On the contrary, I think this is Valve saying: "We're giving you a warning, HL3 will be VR, so get to buying your headset already."

It's meant to sell headsets. This is how you expand the userbase, enticing them with games.

I don't understand why some people are so against technology pushing forward.

Because you blindly assume it does, while the reality shows otherwise, and all the people with common sense see what's going on. VR has yet to prove itself as a worthy gaming device, and as of today it failed miserably trying to do so. Maybe this game will finally be it, who knows, but after so many years and so many titles people have all the right to be sceptical/pessymistic.
