Aah XCOM 2: War of the Chosen was magnificent.

And I would easily replace any of those mario games with The Witcher 3 in top 20.

why if they are saying best games of the decade... mostly are "new" or 2018-2019... didnt they dont remember what are a "Decade"?

Red Dead 2 cannot be there. Red Dead (the 2010 one) is a more enjoyable game for all intents & purposes. I don't get how a game with such awful clunky counter-intuitive controls & a mundane forgettable plot can be considered super-duper awesome. Even GTA 5 has better controls, which is shocking, truly.

The masses usually prefer graphics over gameplay.

I'd keep the 2 Mario games, the rest aren't that great in my opinion. GTA5 was a shallow experience compared to SA and having 3 main characters sucked. RDR2 is a strong contender for most overrated game ever

If the exact same game would be released on PC or XBOX only it would get 6 max 7 reviews. No way it would a single 9 at all. Main reason for that is, that people are so deep in Sony’s ass it’s incredible

It was definitely one of the best games this gen. It was so immersive and amazing. They nailed everything about being in the Wild West, and the controls weren’t that difficult. It’s definitely not a mash X win kind of game, so maybe thats why people got confused.

My only gripe would be that the prologue went on a bit too long, but that’s a nitpick as it easily could have been DLC and extra money paid.

When the same game gets a couple of bonus points just by merely existing for Switch, add to that the famous Nintendo critic pass and of course Nintendo would dominate those metacritic lists.

Ive said it over and over, everyone wants to tell the story or have the great cinematics and the great graphics, they forget to include the fun.

If it was the music industry it would be comparable to having a great message, but forgetting you need a catchy chorus or hook to get people to come back and listen to it more.

I understand what you said if it was Nintendo exclusives, but what about SAME game getting 90+ on Switch while being low 80s on PS4 or even high 70 in some cases (despite looking and running better on PS4?

Using metacritic for these lists is useless.

Different reviewers, different times?

I imagine if some of our favourite and highest rated games came out today, they would get an entirely different score. Some sites want clicks and there’s very little we can do to change that.

It’s all part of the meta, that gamers and gaming communities create.

Do I wish we could change some of that? Sure.

Realistically though it’s not going to happen and will most likely get worse.

There will be very few exclusive games going forward getting top marks unless something in the industry changes.

RDR 2 and GTA V are not THAT good. They have amazing dialogue (story as well for RDR 2) and game worlds. Controls and therefore gameplay suck in both of them. And that should still be the most important considering it's a game that you are playing, not a movie.

I platted that game on PS4 last summer. Truly a worthy succesor to DQ VIII. If you are naar 30 hours, you'll still have easily 40-50 Hours. 70-80 if you aim for all side quest etc.

So why is GTAV still consistently in the top games sold every month even though it released on last gen?

cuz it sucks?

This is a Metacritic list, it's based on the top Meta Scores the last decade......This is not about personal lists....

As a huge Mario fan that played almost every entry, the last great Mario game was Mario 64 imo. Both Galaxy were largely forgettable, and Sunshine was an abomination. Zelda without the hyrule overworld theme, is not Zelda imo, thus why I enjoy the top down games more. RDR2 and GTAV are merely open world games with pretty graphics, not sure if that validates them being among the best.

For me GTA V was just forgettable... I love going back to 3, Vice City or even LCS/VCS. But GTA V? Not really, for me it felt too big for it's own good... In GTA 3 and Vice City I remember maps better than in city where I live lmao

Thats why metacritic is so shit. RDR2 is so bad in comparison with the first RDR.

They even implement that stupid ideia of 'must play' badge.

People are satisfied very quickly when they look at brands/names. I said the gameplay sucks, and when you compare that to games that have that sorted out, then yes, it does suck.
LOADS of people playing a game, doesn't necessarily make them good. It means they have a large playerbase. If everyone is playing it, including your friends, why wouldn't you?

Mobile games are VERY popular as well, does that instantly make them good too because of it?

I couldn't get into RDR 10 years ago so never bothered with the sequel. The other games on the list are good, not all my top of the decade, but the averaging method seems to align well enough with quality.
