Xbox Series X... Worst name of any Console?

Why are people getting offended by the OP. His point is that the name could easily cause confusion about what it is. It just seems very reminiscent of Wii U.

Xbox One (which is what people often called the original Xbox before this name choice)
Xbox One S
Xbox One S All Digital
Xbox One X
Xbox Series X

These could still all be in stores with the XSEX hits the shelves. You don't think this will cause confusion among casual console buyers.

You don't see parents saying "Hmmmm. This one is significantly cheaper. I'm sure it's good enough". All while not knowing they are buying a last generation console?

I can't even with the Sex reference. The fools who came up with it, not to mention the ones repeating it sound like they ain't had no ass in a long, long time. You guys sound desperate AF. And salty..

But hey.... Do you.

Xbox fucked up when they went with 360 because of course they couldn’t do Xbox 2 against PlayStation 3!

But after Wii and Wii U the bar was lowered so wtfever man it’s the next Xbox

Terrible reveal and terrible confusing name.
Not saying Scarlett was much better but at least it was distinctive.
They have done a lot to build up good will and making some very good decisions but it seems this past year they've shat the bed.

How was it a terrible reveal? They revealed the console completely by surprise and they absolutely killed the look of the console. Plus they unveiled it with a true next-gen game in Hellblade 2. We will get pricing, specs next year, but this reveal was definitely successful.

That Series X reveal with the Hellblade trailer was the best thing shown at TGA. It was the highlight of the night.

Microsoft mic dropped it. :messenger_ok:

They could have slapped Xbox 4 on it.

Now MS should send me my consultant fee. :messenger_beaming: You have to figure Phil is just trolling Nadella at this point.

"We really don't give a shit about selling hardware anymore, don't believe me, wait till I reveal the name of the next Xbox and consumer can't figure out what anything is."

I think the name of that particular console is merely X, which is fine. it is part of the Xbox series.

There won't be any need to abbreviate a name that is already only one letter long.

What they did makes very little sense, consumers want to know what they are buying. This is yet another lesson on what not to do, but somehow MS keeps repeating the same things. (I've said it many times now, MS has some the worse consumer marketing in the world)

Xbox 4 <-boring but right to the point and easy for people to figure out

Xbox X20380xDx <-not so bright idea

Op it could literally just be named Xbox X. Chances are the series plays on a family of consoles. Series X, Series S, and Possibly Series C for cloud. Series B could simply be for BC games and cloud, who knows.

It'll make a lot more sense when they announce Anaconda as the Xbox Series Z and Lockhart as the Xbox Series Why, err, I mean Y.

I could see several reasons behind their naming convention, one of which would give them flexibility to put the "XBOX series"... in their line up of consoles/hardware. They could also introduce several tiers of consoles, according to their specs/prices.

XBOX Series X (premium)
XBOX Series S (Lockhart)
XBOX Series Z (their next pro update lol)
XBOX Series Cloud, etc.

I am not saying that this is a great naming, but I think this is far from the worst.

This sounds about right. The way "Series" is not all caps implies that it's not really part of the name but more of an indication of the type of XBOX your are getting. I'm sure the Lockhart version will be. XBOX Series D or some other point of demarcation.

Calling it The Xbox series X will absolutely lead to brand confusion. I realize they are trying to kill console generations with that name but I don't think the public is ready to understand that.

dont mind the console at all.

dont mind the name either - its like they are treating it as a hardware product in line with the rest of their computer brands.

Its prob gonna be like the Series X, the Series X Pro, and Series X Lite, or something like that. Series XS even for the lite platform.... lots of ways to go about it. makes a lot of sense actually when you start running multiple models under the same umbrella.

For me personally it does might lead to missunderstanding among many casuals

Might create confusion between Xbox One X and Xbox One Series X

Off course fellow hardcore gamers like us who frequent gaming websites wont get confused, we already know what were getting
There's no "One" in the new console...Is Just Xbox series X

Is like they want to forget the One gen :D

Xbox 4, Xbox 4 Pro X, Xbox 4 Pro Y.... to be honest all those Xs and Ys are kind of silly as well.

What they are doing is putting model numbers in the actual name of the product, which is kind of silly for a consumer product like this, imo. They don't even do that with the Surface lineup.

Who wants to bet Microsoft plays the song "X Gonna Give It To Ya" by DMX at E3 next year?

The design is well...different, but I don't feel that it is hideous or anything, just curious how the airflow is going to work and if that thing is going to fit into people's entertainment centers! Glad to hear that it is double the GPU power of the XB1X which puts it in the 12TF range which is what I have been hoping for on these next gen consoles!

Except they do exactly that.

Xbox is all that matters, watching this thread lose its mind over a name is hilarious. I would have named it Xbox 2020, and over the course of time gamers will just know it has the next, updated XBOX.

Until they came out with the Surface Pro X, no they didn't. You ordered a Surface Pro 5, and than you selected the ram/process.. What they are doing is silly, might as well just put full Win10 on it.

When I saw the name, I thought instantly it was an xbox one X revision. I only got what was happening when the "holiday 2020" appeared. I wouldn't have expected this kind of announcement. My body wasn't Reggie after all.

I can imagine conversations between not very informed gamers like :
- the new Xbox series X is out
-what are you talking about? I already have a Xbox one x
- no this is a new one
- ah, do I have to buy it to play new games?
- no, the Xbox one X plays the new games too
- so it's just better, like the Xbox one x compared to the Xbox one S?
-no, this is a brand new gen, all new tech!
- then why is the name almost the same?!?

If youre having this conversation then the person clearly doesn't care what it's actually called.

And we were all correct.
No actually the Wii name fit perfectly with Nintendo and nobody has issue with it post launch. the console sold very well and it was never a problem.

The WiiU name was problematic because of how Nintendo Announced and marketed the entire platform.

Maybe I missed something but why are people assuming that there will be a product out there titled "Xbox Series X". I took it as the name of the their next generation of consoles (plural) will be the X series, and the actual name of the specific consoles is still up for speculation.

The name would have been passable if they didn’t just make the Xbox one x.

changing The ONE to a series is going to really mess with people when both units are still in stores.

It's called Xbox Series X. Done

That's not going to be the final name at E3, unless their dev kits are lying so chill. If anything that will be the family name.

They did this with the Xbox One to with weird announced name that wasn't the name, bad memories people.

The hell are you talking about? They only ever announced it as Xbox one.

You literally have to be an idiot if you find the name confusing. Nothing confusing about it whatsoever.
Xbox fanboy bringing heat...

Unless you are buying the box from a Microsoft store, the average Joe looking to get into gaming is going to be confused. Especially when the Xbox One, Xbox One S, and Xbox One X will also play the same games.

But honestly, I don’t think Microsoft give a shit. They are in the process of transitioning to gamepass, and while they need to maintain a home console offering, their “console” will be as much an Xbox - Series XRT4199-85-65-85 as it will be your PC, your Surface Pro, Samsung SmartTV, iPhone etc.

Series implies that there be a range of hardware though, yeah?

If it is named that, then yes its confusing and a bad play by MS. If the hardware is good and they titled it the xbox brick-shitter i'd still buy it but if they name a SPECIFIC console the SERIES X, that does not make any sense...at least to me.

So the name will be even longer?
"Hi I'd like to buy an Xbox Series X Vanilla Butterfly?"

Clear

CliffyB's Cock Holster
MS are deliberately obfuscating the name of the console because regardless of how many SKU's they have on offer they will always only showcase stuff running on the highest spec hardware. From a game marketing perspective One S doesn't exist, X versions are the source for every bit of footage. The exact same thing is going to happen next gen, they'll want to show off games running on Anaconda, while Lockhart and below will only be marketed based on pricepoint.

I can see what you mean but the way it was said 100 percent implied it was called Xbox series X

If anything the rumored Lockhart would be something like Xbox Series S or something along those lines.

Which one?

There you go
Thanks

I'm properly confused

I'd be amazed if this is not the case.

Series X and series S are going to be like Ford Cosworth and Ghia

Pretty much much when I hear series, I think of things like the NVIDIA 2000/3000 series, the S11 series, etc. When I say NVIDIA 2080ti, I'm not saying NVIDIA 2000 SERIES 2080 TI. So maybe the Xbox Series X will something like Xbox X "ti", along that line of logic.
