This is an elaborate plan from Microsoft to spoil the Christmas of many kids around the globe.

Mom: Here is your Xbox, little Timmy:

Scorpio, Scarlett, Dolphin, etc...

Code names are trash.

I would love it if was just called Xbox or X4.

Scorpio... lol might as well made it look like the translucent atomic purple n64 If you want to go full retard like that.

remember.... gamers are always wrong

They'll be calling it 'Xbox' when you stream it to your Samsung TV or from your Nintendo Switch, too. All the same platform, connected by the cloud, beta tested in the future.

I ask again. When has someone asked for an Xbox Series X and gotten an Xbox One X?
Are you dumb on purpose?

We are discussing how the name will affect the consumers and retail after it launch next year and how the retail tries to sell you the old model first.
That happens all the time in retail.

NOONE IS GOING TO GO INTO A STORE AND CONFUSE THE 2 CONSOLES!

what will happen when this thing is out? well all the stores will have posters and carboard stands showing the new system. that's how you market that.

the new Xbox has a VERY distinct look, there is no way anyone will walk into a store and confuse a monolithic looking Xbox that's plastered on walls everywhere with the Xbox One X.

I'm trying to understand your logic. We're talking about someone going into a shop, asking for an "Xbox Series X", where you claim the store will sell them the "Xbox One X". If a store deliberately finds an old model and tries to sell it to you, despite it being named differently, there's no difference whether it's called Xbox Series X, PS5, LOLCONSOLE or whatever.

It doesn't make sense.

And get a Xbox One X :D
That is the whole discussion.
If you specifically ask for an "Xbox Series X" and are sold a "Xbox One X" then the issue is NOT the naming structure of the console. The issue is incompetence of the consumer and deceptive business practices of the seller.

I dont recall a lot of negitivity with Nintendos naming structures of all the 3ds (where kids are a primary target), or any of the other numerous "confusing" names of products (hello PC components).

It's the damn consumers job to make sure they buy what they actually want to buy.

And people keeping buying Wii after ask Wii U...

That looks like nonsense?

You guys needs to remember most consumers are not gamers but parents, grand parents, uncles, etc just buying what the children asked for them.

Of course that didn't happen with some gamer forum poster that knows what exactly he wants but that is basically the minor part of the sales of any console.

Are you saying that people walk into a store, ask for the "Wii U" and comes home with a Wii? How often do you think that has happened?

I think you're severely underestemating peoples mental capabilities. Chances are, that most people will walk into Walmart and ask a clerk to help find the "new xbox".

Yeap that happened.
Even more thought Wii U was the same as Wii and so didn't buy it because they already have the Wii.

Iwata admitted their biggest mistake with the naming.

You're gonna have to present numbers. Do you think this will have any meaningful impact, whatsoever, on sales?
That affect band power and sales... yes.
Already happened with Wii U and Nintendo shares their sales.

But hey... Wii to Wii U was bad but Xbox One X to Xbox Series X is good... lol

Sorry to keep meddling around in this. Let's say it was called XBOX ULTRA DELUXE 5 instead (or something else completely different). How much impact do you think that would have on the sales, versus the current name?

I don't know.

But do you remember that dev some years ago about Wii U name?

Edit - Polygron did an article about the Wii U name... who believes they will do one to Xbox One Series X? :pie_thinking:

BTW Xbox 4 should be a killer name.

Wasn't one of them introduced as "New iPad"? That isn't naturally a very future-proof name.

They did. I can keep my iPhones straight, but I have no idea how to write up a timeline of iPads.

It’s funny to see people so defensive about this. “Xbox One X” versus “Xbox series X” is confusing. That seems pretty obvious.

Whether it’ll have an impact at retail I can’t say, but every time the Wii U comes up here we have 15 people chiming in with the idea that that console was sunk by its moniker as much as anything.

“Well if people can’t get it they’re just stupid.” No. They just don’t care that much about game consoles.

To be honest. Dan Adelman sounds bitter that people didn't want to buy the console his employer created. Wii U was just poorly launched, poorly marketed and a console not many people asked for.

The new Xbox will be called.. "Xbox". So whenever people walk into a store and ask for this, they will say "I'd like an Xbox". The clerk will then get the most expensive they have, which is the X series. That's it.

the name is not an issue and it was also not the issue the Wii U had.

the problem the Wii U had was it looked almost exactly lile a Wii and in commercials you saw people playing with Wii remotes, making the GamePad look like it was a standalone addon to the Wii.

it was the marketing that killed the Wii U, not the name.

the Series X has a VERY distinct design, that thing stands out among any console.
it will be plastered all over the place especially IN the stores you can buy it.

and I wanna bet they will put the word NEW on the box, just like they did here

3,w=1280,c=0.bild.jpg

this thing is hard to mix up with an Xbox One of any kind.

noone is so stupid that they can't tell apart a thing that looks like a small VHS player and a thing that looks like a vertical rectangle amazon echo kinda thing.

and if they just run ads showing this thing and call it "THE NEW XBOX", there is absolutely no way any confusion will occur

Well it’s not Wii U levels of stupid - I mean it wasn’t even clear if the wii u was a new console or an add on.

But yeah “Xbox” is stupid. Then again, X360 was a difficult to name to follow unless you have your 360 multiplication table down.

But really they should have just called this Xbox Alpha or, just bite the bullet and go for Xbox 4 or something and avoid this headache in future.

Although at this stage maybe MS think every generation is their last and there is no future.

2 years ago I went to buy a Huawei P8 lite 2017 and they really tried to sell me a P8 lite (the non 2017 model), so yeah, it will happen with the Xbox vs Xbox One. They will try their hardest to get rid of old stock on unware /not very informed buyers.

The DualShock 4 Back Button Attachment has just been announced by Sony. Who knows what people will come home with from these very confusing shops? :goog_unsure:

A DualShock 1? A back scratcher? An attachment for a vacuum cleaner? It's chaos!

Actually it is an add-on to DS4... so if you tried to buy a Dual Shock 4 you will get a Dual Shock 4.
If you try to buy a Back Button add-on you will get a Back Button add-on.

Being off topic about the Back Button add-on it is useless... I mean there is no use for that shit.

But Lockhart is also an "Xbox”.
Microsoft really messed up with the names when it comes to Xbox.

People in this thread have pointed out it's the exact same way companies name cellphones. You don't see concern trolling when Apple names the new iPhone or Samsung names the new Galaxies.

Both new iPhones and Galaxys are numeric ordered... S5.S6...S10.S11... iPhone 5.5S.6.6S....10.10S.11.

Like others already said it like what Apple did with iPad and it is confusing.

Do you work in Microsoft marketing? You are way too invested in this.

Obviously they're different words. No one disputes that. What's disputed is whether the distinction is clear.

Take your flimsy strawmen somewhere else.

Who died and put you in charge around here? Not my fault if I can tell the difference between "one" and "series". I'm sorry you find it so confusing.
