Is that what it really means or your interpretation?

FAKE EDIT: *Googles*...ah, Resting Bitch Face. I see. Well, I guess. Some people interpret not smiling like a clown 24/7 as being in a bad mood. I guess I have a Resting Serious Face.

Are you sure it’s not Resting Evil Face?

It might look evil, but I’m an animal loving sweetheart.

Truth time: I think I look dark, mysterious and maybe a little dangerous, which is why I attract hot, but crazy as fuck chicks whereas the ‘girl next door’ types take a wide berth a lot of the time.

I’m the tall, dark stranger.

Can someone explain to me why people that shit post over and over don't get banned? Genuine question. Like can we get a week without these people so we can see how much better it would be?

I can manage going through a couple of shit posts every now and then. But same person shitposting everyday all the time? It shouldn’t be acceptable and allowed just for the sake of “activity”

this X1000. There needs to be a line.

Its very clear when someone is pushing their own bullshit agenda over and over and isn't in here to have a discussion but bash and troll over and over. And simply because they don't use profanity or "bad words" they don't get banned.

Give us a week without em and see the quality will improve and I would threads more often since I don't have to weed through the bullshit.

I concur. Shitposters are the worst.

I am not even going to come back with anything. I am afraid after the Xbox deletion, I'll be put on ignore here ;)
I don't get the reference lol

Oh you mean the GAF Xbox Club? I just left because I kept getting a bunch notifications from it and I couldn't figure out how to disable it. Was driving me crazy lol

Define shitpost.

With freedom of speech comes “noise” that would otherwise be curated subjectively by mods who would likely have different definitions of shitposts. I’d rather we didn’t create curated experiences like that though if you absolutely must, the ignore function is there for you to use.

Fair point with a definition.

I would define shit posting as someone who clearly isn't there to have a discussion but simply state a clearly biased point of view with zero intention on actually having a conversation about it. While replying rapdily to a majority of posts with troll like responses simply to be a dick about it

TLDR: Clearly being a jackass and pretending you aren't.

The ignore function donest do jack when someone is literally posting 10 times a page. It makes conversations impossible to follow at times.

There's a fine line between shitposting and shit posting, and what you're describing sounds more like the latter. We definitely have way too much of that for my liking, but I find it pretty easy to avoid in the grand scheme of things.

Its like bans for "Drive-by posts" it starts to not have a definition and just a reason to ban a poster they don't like because they made a concise point in this Twitter world typing on touchscreens that are not conducive long form posts.

When posts derail threads over and over that's not a drive by post. There are certain members who literally detail every thread of something they don't like. And they do it in extremely passive aggressive ways but aren't warned because they don't name call or use words like troll. They literally are subverting the "system." Because they know they can get away with it.

Can you give an example? Generally speaking, I feel you but I think the bad outweighs the good when it comes to casting a wider net with bans. Personally, I’m pretty happy with the current level/lenience of moderation. Jackasses exist no matter where you go and I think learning to tolerate a certain level of jackassery is better than trying to silence it because there will undoubtedly be overreach with the latter.

Detail or derail?? Because if English isn't your first language then you might be reading passive aggressive where everybody else reads bantz.

I'm not asking for a wider net but to be more aggressive other than "trigger words." Actions should be judged in the same way words are.

Posting stuff with 😭😭😂😭😂😂😂😂😭😭 is trolling.

But since they don't use the word troll it's "ok."

Go into any thread with positive Xbox news or anything Microsoft really that is positive and you'll see it very quickly. Same thing with DF threads.

I get you, but is banning such posters for sure the best way to handle them? Are there any flow on effects from encouraging banning as a corrective force? Are there any other methods that are potentially more effective, e.g. fostering a culture within the community that claps back (for lack of a better term) and disincentivizes such posts in future? For example, look at this thread last week from a returning Reeflake trying to own the alt-right: https://www.neogaf.com/threads/idio...quote-from-trump-thats-up-for-debate.1516726/. It has the obnoxious emoji spam you describe but the community mocked OP, established his position towards the bottom of the social hierarchy, and laughed him out of the thread. A mod even changed the title to reflect his special status on the short bus. I think that’s more effective than just banning him outright and we get to have fun at his expense.

This is similar to what I mean when I talk about false civility. People will always learn ways to subvert any system and trying to moderate based on mean words just tilts the playing field in favour of other undesirable behaviours like baiting/trolling/dishonesty. Look at the Politics sub: some of the most “civil” posters are also the most dishonest. I think in terms of moderation it’s best to leave most forms of speech/discourse on the table and let it sort itself out organically. Sometimes the best way to deal with a dishonest troll is to insult/mock them, but you can’t do that if mean words are banned. Then the trolling spirals out of control because you’ve removed its natural predator from the ecosystem.

TL;DR instead of requesting more bans (top-down authoritarian moderation), learn how to shut the behaviours down yourself (bottom-up peer moderation).
