Interesting huge page of leaks. And lots of specific data and names.

Either this guy is the greatest leaker in recent time, or has too much time on his hands giving games titles and making up a Demon's Souls tag line.

These two next-gen systems will have pretty similar specs. If they do launch at $499, they'll be eating $300-$400 of the BOM to get to that launch price, and that will be from a strong negotiating position since they will be buying materials in bulk. I don't see any other company besides these two that can take on that kind of a risk and survive.
Not only that. The transition between PS4 to PS5 and Xbox One to seX will be very smoth because crossgen, BC and the simular spec with previous gen, aka AMD CPU and GPU.

Besides, I don't know about Microsoft, but Sony already worked with loss at PS4 launch and PS4 games will not die too soon unlike PS3 games. PS4 and Xbox still have some lives to do and they will got even cheap I guess.

Other point is the comparison with smarthphone expensive market make a little sense. Both consoles not only are next gen, but premium as well.

don't understand the meaning of this post. We are here in the Next Gen hardware speculation/rumors OT, and you come here salty or something, to snark on the people who are speculating and sharing rumors about the next gen hardware!!!???... because the 'self claimed' insiders by the hundreds you talk about, are only 4 or 5 people among all the posters dude wtf

Salty? Lol you sound triggered by a post 🤣🤣. Obviously you dont know any sarcasm.🤣

If I can get the thought of Kate Beckinsale out of my head for five seconds and get back on track...

lets bugger the specs for a moment as we all know they will both be awesome...

have we heard ANYTHING at all about what we are doing with regard to achievements/trophies or gameplay tracking?

Achievements needs a new layer, something to spice it up, and trophies are just as stale.

And gameplay tracking is really basic and poor right now, too, with the Xbox taking the lead but usually it’s on a per dev basis.

Now this is some good stuff to speculate and desire.

I was just taking with a buddy of mine the other day while we were moseying around in Red Dead Online, that at the bare minimum they should add UI features for game tracking with how Steam does it, and then build upon it.

Well Xbox already does the overlay stuff, however it’s near useless because games for some reason don’t bother to use the tracking stuff. So the achievement “shoot 10 pigeons” stays at “0” until you’ve shot all 10, making it utterly pointless. I hate it when games don’t use that...

But we should have levels and stuff, maybe awards and tiers, I dunno. Atm a static gamer score does nothing for me. I used to enjoy seeing my friends right there on the old blades dash on 360, and could see what they have been up to.

Maybe if we had a friends section, and It had a “recent activity” section for each, it would show several bullet points, like “recently reached level 50 in COD” or “found TownX in Skyrim” or something.

Dunno about the third one; if they go via emulation there's nothing stopping them from having all PS consoles supported. Yes, it wouldn't be via native hardware, but software emulation accuracy has improved by leaps and bounds since 2006, for MANY consoles. Software emulation IIRC is basically how the X does it, and people have no major issues there.

The people buying these next-gen consoles that want to play older games on them don't care about 100% hardware emulation accuracy, otherwise they would get an FPGA-based console (if one exists for their system, like it does for SNES or MegaDrive), or just go buy the original consoles off eBay or some retro games shop.

Everyone else is more than satiated with software emulation and PS5 should have the power to do software emulation for PS3 and downward. And going by the Github leak, it should have native hardware compatibility with PS4 and PS4 Pro titles. Honestly this whole back-compat and "will it or won't it" thing is the least debatable issue with PS5 imho; it's gonna have emulation support for all generation PS home consoles, no doubt about it.

The other three points you mention though are pretty much on the money and give away that leak being fake.

Yeah they could, but I don't think Sony believes it is worth the effort. PS3 is probably the biggest problem by far.

PS4 games will 100% work, they confirmed that ye. And they absolutely have to. They couldn't have gotten away without it. It was like a requirement in order to actually release a new console. Many people would have been furious, me included, if the PS5 didn't have BC for PS4 games.
It is one of the driving forces why I am going to buy a PS5 day one. Just so I can disconnect my PS4 and just use my PS5 for everything.

If the PS5 truly has BC for PS1,2,3,4 then I would be spending my next 10 months hunting for PS1,2,3 games on ebay and flea markets, but first I would need to appreciate that Kate Beckinsale gif for another 20 minutes.

The tricky bit is that the moment that BC is announced, the value of old game discs would skyrocket. But how would we know if it's worth the effort, unless the feature is announced?

True, but I will be the fastest dude on the web watching the live stream before the laggards wake up next morning reading the news !

Up until the last few moments even Sony was not sure if they could secure 8GB of memory. Even then, though, they probably had at least a couple of people who associated with Sony guys hearing rumors about possible 8GB GDDR5 before Sony actually made the announcement themselves publicly.

I can assure you, MS was nowhere near as surprised about 8GB GDDR5 in PS4 as we were when the news was officially made at 2013 PS Meeting, just like how MS will be nowhere near as surprised by whatever Sony announces about PS5 at this year's meeting (or how Sony may've been nowhere near as surprised as we were about XSX specs or features MS have announced so far, or the XSX at the TGAs past December).
Let's hear it from Albert Penello on era then:

That was a long time ago, so pulling from memory.

Nothing official in terms of knowing what they were doing of course but I do remember that we knew they were going to have more TFLOPS, and they were using GDDR5 vs DDR3.

However (and I've posted this before so it's well known) we were planning to have more system memory, and there was a debate about ESRAM (and the success that EDRAM saw on 360) and how much real-world difference there would be.

I think the only surprise was them going to 8gb.

Stop lying! You tried to convince here everybody that X1X will have a Zen CPU 3 years ago. Even Matt warned you, you didn't quit. You never even thought that X1X will have a Jaguar CPU.

Even X1X with Navi and beyond....Bank on it

This is to me the hilarious part. After Digital Foundry made a revealed a specs video for X1X a.k.a Scorpio confirming Jaguar CPU, Polaris GPU... :

But then Matt's funny reply :

Wow. He's the same guy with conspiracy theories, kept denying and saying that PS5 doesn't have HW accelerated ray-tracing support despite Cerny and Sony confirming multiple times over and over that PS5 does indeed have RT hw in the GPU. Now these posts of his clearly show why he was in denial.

This doesn't sound like a hype train. Sounds more like a roller coaster ride with too many highs and lows and eventually coming off the rail with people dying and being injured. Too much fuckery: 8TFLOPS to 13 TFLOPS. WTF?

Atleast with Xlauncher you got 10-12 TFLOP range.

Come on man, FUNK DAT!

I don't understand those that want PS5 to be much weaker...just for console warrior brownie points? It's like, we already have the specs of the Xbox Series X, and everyone is fairly happy with that. Yet we continue to hear people claim PS5 is going to be 8TF and no Ray Tracing based on a GitHub leak that doesn't amount to anything or tell us anything concrete about what's in the final hardware of the PS5

As Shu said, let them believe.
