Next-Gen PS5 & XSX |OT| Console tEch threaD

Certainly a tricky one, because I believe with the right message, solid games and a good launch, MS could get back to 360 numbers.

Sadly, I don’t see them doing that. Their messages haven’t been universally liked (new games on old systems, lockheart etc), they haven’t shown any games to wow us *yet* and we still all have no idea what the final spec will be. I believe they can get back, I don’t believe they will, sadly.
Don’t know what the final spec will be, yet they have prototype home consoles? I’m pretty sure they know.

Let's talk clearly. I am the first one who loves Sony, but for the moment we have to admit that at the moment some bad decisions are being made that remind me of the MS game with Conker and then not announce it and leave his followers wrong. We must recognize that publishing a web page of your product saying that "we are not ready to show it" is NOT a good decision and creates uncertainty.

lol, this is about Cloud Computing and their with competition with google and amazon thats why they keep investing in Microsoft Game Stack to gain advantage in cloud gaming.
it's not about Xbox vs Playstation, Guess Who Partnered with MS Azure......
That was a very smart decision by Ms _ to partnership with the veteran company, with already 6 years! experience on the game streaming business _ i think that will help them a lot with their forward competition with Stadia and Amazon. 👍

Sony to make the games, Microsoft makes the hardware/software. Best of both worlds.
No thanks, they both continue making the games and they work together to make the hardware.

One here! 4 left!
Bruh!... 3 left and counting!

I tried to look up 3D audio chips or DACs but couldn't find anything. I'm interested to see what its all about, and wonder if it's an expensive addition. I mean, even 20 or 30 Dollars is expensive in console terms.
True, but I'm glad they won't be skimping on audio for the PS5. Sony's audio will be proprietary so maybe that will help them control the costs.
This is the quote on the Wired article

The AMD chip also includes a custom unit for 3D audio that Cerny thinks will redefine what sound can do in a videogame.

It's not Cernys quote, and nothing he says about it on the interview hints to how it will be implemented. So, like the RT speculation, it could be an independent custom chip on the APU, but could be as well a customization on the GPU itself, using dedicated CUs. I think that going with a bigger GPU to afford it, would save size on the APU and be less expensive, but what do i know lol it could even be a second bigger chip for both RT and 3D sound 😅

Are we certain that the "Lite" designation is for APUs and not just for low power/mobile variants (e.g Navi 10 lite is 5600M or 5700M) ?

Fake Fake AMD has a catalogue of chips, company's (Sony, Ms, etc...) choose what suit's them to put on their products, let's say for example :
Navi 12 Lite - 60$
Navi 10 Lite - 130$
Navi 21 Lite - 170$
both company's decide to go with Navi 21 Lite.
Each one of them gonna study the chip, stress it to the max and see what's the better solution clock (Ghz), GDDR6/HBM2 memory, price etc...
There is no secret chip that company's don't know about, it's about secret sauce which i think is clock + memory & price, how much space on a die for Ray tracing etc...
Thats what i think, might be terribly wrong as well.

Thyll feel the same way they felt when ps3 was hundreds more and had inferior multiplats for the first few years. It was also a time during which ppl were into Xbox first party, also a time when psn went down for months 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ but guess what? It's a fact PS3 still outsold Xbox world wide by tens of thousands almost every month during their lives. Sony's brand synonymous with great gaming and hardware/software is embedded in ppls minds. Microsoft at its best and Sony at its worst still won't outsell Sony world wide. There's history on tht.

Furthermore lol this mythical gap ppl want to happen won't. It's going to be crazy up in here when and if PS5 has more flops and RT.

sonomamashine sonomamashine what is getting my attention is why the PS5 devkit have that design... Can be the rumors about termal issue or even the small possibility of HBM... who knows.

Is the MAC hardcore PC gaming using full AMD as well? Probably the GPU will be AMD because both Apple and AMD are pretty close, but never happen to Apple use Ryzen in any Mac product.

Navi 10 lite is basically RX 5700 OR RX 5700T, it will only make lockhart more expensive
No, when you cut the middle men the price goes down.

I don't see it like that, for me it means "we cant put specs for the moment until there is no more time for competition to make changes"
Are we certain that the "Lite" designation is for APUs and not just for low power/mobile variants (e.g Navi 10 lite is 5600M or 5700M) ?
Yes it's for APU.
Like i said before there no confirmation that XSX will be using Navi 21 lite
It's logical to assume that since navi 10 doesn't support Ray Tracing Navi 21 Lite is the right condidate, you have to put a guess on it so that people wont be confused and follow logic.
APu could also be Apple related , right?
Yes, they shop all at AMD.

Man, I cannot think of a single gamer that wanted a PS1 before launch over an established brand like Sega with their Saturn. Then after release the PSX simply had better games (in America) and all my friends eventually got one too (online didn’t matter then and nobody cared what their friends had, nobody cared if their friends had Sega, Nintendo or “other”).
I myself was still playing the Saturn Kiosk at Best Buy dreaming of owning one, one day. By the time that they had their first price drops and my family could afford it, the PSX was clearly the no brainer because of the game lineup.

People wanted Sega and Nintendo, not Sony PlayStation, Panasonic 3DO, Philips CD-i... they wanted Sega and Nintendo.

Brand recognition wasn’t so kind to Sega afterall.
PlayStation had some great exclusive games, and a lot of them.

I started out with the original NES as a kid, jumped to Sega Genesis and eventually got a SNES too. Jumped from there to the Sega Saturn but immediately returned it after I played Tekken in the arcade and saw the images of the console version in EGM. Picked up a playstation. Later i also got an N64. From there i got the Sega Dreamcast. Then an XBOX. Then Playstation 3.... as you can see I bounced all over. And I always drooled over the more powerful and expensive consoles like 3DO and Neo Geo. I had friends who bought them so that had to be good enough for me. I went where the games were but i also wanted the most powerful where i could afford it. Brand loyalty never meant a damn thing to me. Not loyal to any brand i just love games and i find something to play across all consoles especially as an adult.

Then you obviously haven’t lived through multiple console generations like I have.

At this point in time, and this is true, I’ve read people essentially saying they don’t care if the SX is half the price of the Ps5 and twice as powerful, they just won’t get it because they don’t like Xbox.

And that’s fine. It’s a bit of a shit attitude to take but it’s fine.

But don't underestimate the willpower of a diehard fanboy. It’s like asking an Arsenal supporter to start cheering on Man United for a game... It doesn’t work in their brains. They are so brainwashed to the idea that anything else cant be good, they simply won’t entertain it, regardless of merit.

So yeah, I stand by what I said. Sony could release a machine far less powerful and more money, and it would still sell more than the Xbox. Because the real world doesn’t give a shiny rats arse about what’s under the hood, they just give a shit about the logo on the box. It’s the same for any product, and always will be. Look at your phone, fancy changing makes? What about your trainers? Or car? Think about it. You go with what you like, and you very rarely change, because we are after all creatures of habit, and even when you’re older, playground street cred still enters your head. Otherwise we would all be wearing ASDA trainers and driving skodas.

Honestly, while I agree, personally that logo on the box reminds me of the support I’ve received for my hobby over the years.

The logo is merely from a corporation that produces the kind of hobby I truly enjoy and out of those couple of competitors, one has given me reason to trust they will continue to do just that: create the games and experiences I enjoy as a gamer. I still couldn’t agree with you more.

What if the machines are going to be ready to show but the software is not?

That's a very fair point! Because what gives the hardware alone for Sony/MS, when you can't show what it's actually capable of, because the games are simply not there yet? Let's face it, the average console consumer doesn't care about any of the technical terms and numbers like the PC nerds or fanboys do, people can easily tell whether the games look great or not with their own eyes, without any knowledge of what's running them.

Though let's face it, with no exclusive content, how can anyone get excited?

But what if someone is not into PC and really wants a console? And if someone is not into Sony's exclusives either? Because I can imagine that (arguably) the more comfortable controller and faster online infrastructure might be a trump card for many people who just want to play titles like CoD, BF, GTA, Fifa, Assasin etc. Also, another jet-engine sounding Playstation might as well be a factor that could push some of the average Joes into XB direction after the unpleasant experiences with PS4/Pro. All of that assuming that both consoles cost about the same of course.

The chances are that Sony and MS are using the same chip size 56cu.
With Sony chopping down their chip for more RT performance.
Some crazy bullshit in this thread that makes no logic.

could be dual fans (each side), Dev kits are based on early chips which is like running a faulty chip (not final) need more corrections (takes 1 year or more), usually dev kits design don't mean anything (boxy shape) but that design means that they are testing cooling for final product.
This is the last year Apple will use Intel, going foward they will use their own in house chip (rumor), i think the GPU is a 590 not even RX5700 if i recall.

Not always true, I have had a ton of systems over my lifetime, I had NES and Super NES and later I bought a 3DO and then a Sega Saturn (worst console purchase ever) and every since the breakup of Nintendo and Sony over the Super NES CD-ROM I read that Sony was coming out with their own console which I started drooling over and ended up getting Day 1. I also owned the Sega Dreamcast (one of my favorite systems, way underrated!) and then PS2, Gamecube and Xbox (original) then PS3 (was going to get a Xbox360 but the RROD scared me off) and now PS4 and Nintendo Switch. The only reason I haven't gone forward with both consoles now is that I wanted to concentrate on one system which would allow for more games and my game library is 100% digitally now and going forward the reason I am sticking with Sony (even it if it is slower) is because of the BC of my existing library and the fact that I feel Sony has really delivered on the first party games compared to Microsoft. I also like the controller layout of the Playstation series versus the layout of the Xbox, I could never get use to their stick layout. I have nothing against the Xbox consoles, just Sony consoles have fit me better in what I am looking for game-wise.

Based on what? I've not found any definitive statements or evidence that confirms this. Is this just speculation?
i read it a long time ago, and no i don't have a link.
yeah i know MS and Sony Will get special prices form AMD, Navi 10 lite will be overkill for lockhart.
Remember Lockhart is designed for 1080P /1440P at $250-$300 price point
not even special price for million of units, middle men put the item in a box, send the box, put it in a storage, put it on a truck transportation, etc .........

Sony rolled out with ridge racer (where you could put in your own music CD to have as the sound track), Twisted Metal, Demolition Derby and Wipeout.
The games were what pushed them ahead of Sega.

The games helped, but releasing the Saturn the way they did is why Nintendo and Sony got ahead of Sega. Sega made several blunders in a row on the road to their own downfall actually.

As a parent... no. Kids will ask for what they want, and that’s usually what their friends want. You don’t go from market leader to instantly having nobody ask fora PlayStation just because you’re not as fast or more expensive. Like hell could kids could give a toss which console is best. They just care about looking good. And it doesn’t look good when you walk into the school playground and proudly confess your console of choice is different to everybody else’s.

I just need to remind you, that you’re talking to a die hard Xbox fanboy here, with the cash already put aside for BOTH systems. But I’m not thick. I know people who know the ins and outs of spec, ive worked with actual developers of actual games on actual hardware, and they are STILL die hard PS fans, even when the talk came out that the SX May have been more powerful.

Don’t just assume that because one product is better, or more value for money, that people will flock to it. I’m using the phone example again, my iPhone costs over a grand to buy, but does less than a similar android phone of £350. Why don’t I go get the android?

Because I want an iPhone.

Simple as that.

Damn won’t let me bold but this was the post that dropped what I took as a bread crumb!

Devs have also been praising PS5 and neglecting any comments on Xbox which is interesting.

The only dev that's been noted saying this themselves is Jonathan Blow, who already has a shoddy business history with MS. No other developers have been directly sourced saying anything even hinting at a preference for one system over the other; it's been insiders who supposedly have spoken to some people at game companies who have mentioned whatever they've mentioned and led some of the insiders to make this claim.

The two are not comparable; additionally devs would not be working on final hardware at this point since they are still dealing with dev kits in flux. And according to the insiders, MS was running late on updating dev kits compared to Sony, so while devs wouldn't be brazen enough to jeopardize business relationships by claiming a system preference before either system's launched, internally you would assume they are probably getting along easier on the more mature dev kit between the two.

Even if the Ps5 is 8 Tf, games will look far superior. Because of the 4 Tf anchor called Lockhart. I will laugh bigly at the fools who buy the 600$ 12 tf seX to play uprezzed lockhard games.

PS3 outsold xbox360 in the end, but Sony lost many customers because of their mistakes. MS sold 24 million xbox consoles and 84 million xbox 360 (almost matched PS3 sales). Xbox 360 was a huge success for MS and if Sony would not react in time even more people would choose MS platform.

Well, I believe the only reasonable reason that Sony is holding on the PS5 event is that the legacy BC, they're still working on it until they make sure it's working 100% they will drop the bomb.

The specs has nothing to do with anything, if Sony has the less powerful console they will simply go out & say it's $399

All the hesitation coming from both consoles are almost on par that's why Sony is looking for hiatus to destroy MS from the beginning. It worked for them when they had the most powerful console & it will work for them now.

Mark Cerny I believe or someone else at Sony has said that the ps5 is for hardcore gamers. Jim Ryan said we want to make a smooth transition from the PS4 to ps5 as fast as possible, how could this transition happens??

1. BC with PS1, PS2, PS3 & PS4 or at least with PS4
2. A good launch line up (which we don't know yet)
3. A capable machine that more powerful or at least on par with the competition.
4. Delivering a new features & easier accessibility.
5. A price that justify what your machine is capable of.

As much as I want more information on PS5, I think we’re going to have to wait a bit longer.

They just had some pretty major restructuring of PlayStation execs, and it’ll take time for those people to find their footing. PS4 also has a great lineup of games in the first half of this year.

It’s better for them to take their time and nail the messaging instead of rushing i

Okay, Sony is waiting for the right time. But then don't launch a web page to say anything.

They are preparing. Not everything is going to happen at the same time.

Sony is winning right now. Xbox actually showed their console, but a stupid meaningless logo from Playstation got more attention.

I bet Sony is using all that thirsty drool from the fanboys ( funnily I can't exclude myself from this ) as their lube.
