Famitsu review

Dreams (PS4) – 9/10/8/9 [36/40]

IGN - 9/10
A place for unlimited creation, Dreams is a highly ambitious concept, and one that has been magically brought to life.
Destructoid - 9.5/10
It should feel dull, but it doesn't. Dreams doesn't feel like homework. Part of that is on the intuitive tools, and part of that is on Media Molecule's community-centric approach. This isn't "just another project" for the team – it's the culmination of everything they've worked toward since LittleBigPlanet.
GamePro - 93/100
Dreams is both a playable engine and a treasure trove of creativity of all kinds and therefore equally exciting for all players.
TheReviewGeek - 9/10
Dreams is unlike anything else out there. Of course, this also makes reviewing the title incredibly tricky too – do you review this as a game? Or as a game creation software? The answer is, I guess, a bit of both. Mileage will vary from person to person but it’s a very specific game that itches a very specific scratch, one that you’ll either pick up and love or pick up, play for 2 or 3 hours and never come back to again.
Push Square - 10/10
It may have taken the better part of a decade to make, but the arrival of Dreams feels significant. It represents a whole new way for people to make things and share them with the world. Media Molecule has made a suite of tools that feels intuitive to use, but more than that, it's built a social platform where players can collaborate and explore the imaginations of others. It's a technical marvel, a creative miracle, and one of the most innovative games in years.
Gamerheadquarters - 9/10
Dreams is a simply magical experience that could produce some truly beautiful games and pieces of art, for any type of gamer to enjoy.
God is a Geek - 10/10
As overwhelming as it is, Dreams is a unique and impressive game that offers plenty of ways for players to create whatever they want, with a great sense of community.
IGN Spain - Spanish - 8.7/10
Media Molecule gives us a complete tool with which feel ourselves like authentic video game developers. It takes time but, once you mastered it, the experience is very rewarding. The only limit of Dreams is in our imagination.
Jack of All Controllers - 9.5/10
Dreams, under a creative mind, is a perfect tool to let your imagination run wild and paint a picture for all to see. While downfalls are present, there is nothing in gaming history that can come close for the masses to make whatever they want.
Hobby Consolas - 88/100
Dreams is an impressive game making tool, which includes a great story mode: Art´s Dream. On the downside, motion sensing controls are not too accurate, and the game requires lots of tutorials.
Review in Spanish
Everyeye.it - 90/100
Even just looking at it is good for the heart. Being able to enhance it can also make us better players.
Spaziogames - 8.5/10.0
Dreams' final release might lack serious control improvements over the early access but a wonderful story mode, and community's getting better and better at creating unlock this PS4 exclusive's full potential.
Review in Italian
Fanboy - 5/5
Dreams is a platform that allows for complete and nearly limitless creative expression, and it’s already jam-packed with games, music, and art that more than justify the asking price.

NICE ONE! I'll be sure to check these out. Don't take notice of what the PP review says. I don't know where the hell he's even coming from. You know me for promoting Dreams the hell and back, for putting out content like there's no tomorrow, but I'm telling you now, NOTHING the community has done thus far comes even close to what MM did with the story mode. Yes there are some inspiring creations and, yes, they'll blow your mind sometimes, but the community has a LONG way to go before it matches what MM have done with Dreams themselves. They WILL get there though.

I have high hopes that Media Molecule has finally done it with Dreams. They tried to give players the liberty to create whatever they wanted with Little Big Planet, but it was limited to the gameplay concept of LBP (limited layers, limited AI features, building wasn't robust enough). Now the game seems more like a gaming engine on itself (still limited to the hardware where it is and among other things). With this in mind, I can't wait for what the community will build in the long run. I will work more with sculpting and modeling in general.

I fear that this will be another case that gets great reviews but low sales. But then again it's supossed to be a long-term project so maybe it will sell more later on through positive word of mouth.
I'd be surprised at >3M sales at least any time soon, it's still something of a niche. It'll likely recoup development costs at the very least.

But who knows - if there's enough user-generated content (and by the looks of it, there are some really enthusiastic people messing with the game) it may become more a platform of sorts, making it a much more desirable purchase. And just to be absolutely clear, I do wish all the best for the game, it seems like a really cool concept. Will probably pick it up at some point.

It IS a platform. That's the whole point in Dreams.

I'll remake Death Stranding in Dreams ..

No more walking boys + the world will be filled with babies no more stranding deaths but candies stranding .. no more travel but fly .. and every baby out there is a boss

How about that ?

And the final boss is Kojima wearing metal gear suit

The MC score will be added in a few hours.

Push Square - 10 / 10

Gamerheadquarters - 9 / 10

God is a Geek - 10 / 10

IGN Spain - Spanish - 8.7 / 10

Jack of All Controllers - 9.5 / 10

More reviews will be added as they pop up.

Bought early access when it came out. Will dig into this with my son this weekend. Perfect time for NYC public schools to be closed 😊

Love MM, they always offer something quite different from the rest of the games we are use to.

Using KDE is a crime.
To quote Randy Marsh: "Heeeey, fuck you!"

(Having said that, I do use Gimp over Krita. Just that most other Gnome/GTK apps suck balls compared to KDE/Qt equivalents. Don't get me started on configurability or the window manager.)

Perhaps I'll rephrase - if it becomes a platform popular enough to attract those not so into content creation.

OK, I see what you're saying. It will only do that with a good interface and ease of use. Right now that's the worse aspect of Dreams but I have let my feelings known to MM and they have promised to look into it.

I'm too lazy to create things. Some Dreams community devs should set up a PayPal to take commissions for game making so I can have the "gay lumberjack dating Sim x Visual Novel x Stardew Valley" of my dreams.

Pretty fantastic reviews. I was thinking maybe reviewers wouldnt know how to score something like this. I will def take a look at this if it ever comes to PC.

Yeah...unless it comes to PC there's no future for this project

The only hope I think. I don't think its bad, in many ways its very impressive, just not sure it really works in a general consumer way.

Impressive project, just not sure its the right project.

Do you remember LittleBigPlanet scores? There is no way to Dreams got less than 90...
It's not going to stay at 96. That's only 5 reviews (mostly from official or playstation mags), now with two more it's already down to 92. It will end up in the mid 80s.

I find it hard to understand how you can actually put a score on this anyways. This game can't be reviewed, because it is not a game. It's like reviewing Source Film Maker or Unreal Dev Kit. Like what?

Anything can be reviewed.

The act to create a game is a game by itself... you have missions, objectives, goals... etc.

This user has been removed from thread. Your typical low effort driveby contributions.

This is possibly where the marketing went.

The tools look great, but all these reviews pointing out clunky controls is a bummer. Navigating those tools with a pad doesn't sound great, and it doesn't have mouse support. I really wish it would come to PC.

I'm more interesting in this to play people's creations rather than design my own, I just don't have the time/talent.

So I'd say I'll pick it up just for that.
