If @OsirisBlack is correct and the xsx is 12tf and 12.4, I think APi's will make a bigger difference, for example PS4 had inferior anisotropic filtering on some games despite being more powerful. so even if PS5 is 3.34% more powerful , it won't be "more powerful" because some games will superior on the xsx, a bit like the PS3/360 gen but with even smaller differences.

The only Downside to this is that there will be no clear winner when it comes to which box is the most powerful.

Why is it a downside? Buy the box that has the most games you want to play.

PS5 17 Teraflops confirmed!

/Just kidding

But it's actually true!

So lads - Rdna 2 is faster then rdna 1 by what 100 percent?

Hell no, 10-20% at most is what I recon as far as efficiency from architecture improvements go, plus some further gains from possibly increased clock speeds. But that being said, 12TF RDNA should perform as about 18TF GCN card, so with 2nd RDNA version we are possibly looking at (non-existing of course) ~20TF Vega.

Which would be a good thing for everyone as there will be no compromises this time around.

And I know some people on both sides that can't handle the consoles being so close in specs, but when you look at the big picture it is a GREAT thing that they are hopefully both going to be so close...if they are close then 3rd party games are going to be able to push fidelity even more and cut down on development time as well which is a win win for everyone!

Because the power/performance argument will never stop.

This gen the power/performance arguments settled down quite quickly because it was obvious which box had better performance

Reads like an engineer's play on words. Read between the lines on this one, mate.

I believe he's dropping some hints here. ;)

Also interesting they seem to be talking about RDNA2's RT in particular. Could be possible PS5 is using a different (proprietary) RT solution because the questions they ask in that tweet sound more hinting at a comparison between their RT and AMD's.

Either that, or they are using AMD's RT as well and at least some of RDNA2 in that aspect. But they're odd questions to rhetorically ask if they're using the same tech, leads me to think they have their own RT solution implemented somehow, maybe on some chip-to-chip pipelining with RapidIO or InfinityFabric customization with AMD (could also explain lack of RT blocks enabled on Oberon tests; may not be using AMD's particular RT tech and microcode to enable it might've been withheld by Sony, or it just wasn't ready to enable on an older stepping).

Yes the people who make a big fuss about the power differences should get auto banned.
It's a great thing that power won't be a deciding factor next gen.

You gotta love it when fanboys get called out

I just love it when a clueless fanboy that is completely oblivious on the topic of system architecture and Processor design tries to pretend it's smart in front of an actual chip engineer who has spent years researching the art itself and devoted tons of time to learn and master it, only to be utterly destroyed and humiliated by the said engineer, it makes things a lot more fun when you see people with expertise in a particular field engaging in a conversions with other people who are trying to look smart. It's painfully obvious that Matt is also dropping hints of the PS5 while trying to be as subtle as possible so as to not spoil the surprise.

I would expect an actual engineer to have more important things to do than respond to randoms on Twitter when a rival company reveals their console specs. Unless he's dropping actual info about the ps5, it just looks like pointless sniping which people can read into whatever they want.

Hypothetical would have to be if one was severely lacking, no?
Not necessarily. It’s a competition, you never know what is gonna motivate one company to one-up another, even if it’s by small margins. Just curious if Sony’s specs are say slightly worse, now that they have the MS specs, is it too late in the game to go “ok, we’re gonna top it”

It probably is too late since devs started developing for the console already, but I don’t know for sure.

Geez! Why do you want them to wait until the 27th?! I am hoping to a 3rd and final Wired article tomorrow...the last two both dropped on a Tuesday and guess what tomorrow is...TUESDAY! Keeping my fingers crossed!

Theres was a pastebin post uploaded yesterday that said 27th at 2pm PST. I know pastebin isn't trustworthy but it's something.

He needs to stop him from spreading misinformation, plus he is a human being not a machine so you want him to work 24/7

Lol man the Sony hype train is falling apart after today.

Sony you gotta do something man lol

So true, they are now like 3 or 4 media/announcements behind ms.

Ms have done the E3 video of Scarlett, done a few blogs, released a in engine demo and console advert video at the game awards.

Sony have just done 2 wired articles the last one being in Oct 2019 and announcing a dam logo.

God I swear some of you are really hard to handle. A TF is a TF no matter the architecture. The console is 12 TF. And now confirmed that it is RDNA 2.0.

12TF is twice the TF of XBX. However, in actual performance it is higher because the efficiency of RDNA means the same TF deliver higher performance.

This was not an asterik 12TF equivalent in GCN.

Some of you need to just stop. I mean what the hell else do you all need?
You are actually right. I was one who wanted to know more but at the same time, its whatever. 12 rdna is awesome. Maybe they just said double without explaining the situation from GCN to RDNA. I'm a realist so you actually slapped me back to reality. Appreciate that.

What has Matt said? Is it anything new?
