Do we know anything about what the new Xbox game studios are working on? I am hoping for some new ips, but I am worried we will get only some old ips as MS will try to play it safe.

I just came across somebody on twitter said
PS5 is "base hardware ray tracing"
XSX is "accelerated hardware ray tracing"
So MS's solution is more "premium"
LOL that word play :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Sorry, thought I had to give you the triggered emoji to keep it clean.

I think it's pretty easy to explain why Sony is more willing to wait. MS is selling about 1/3 of what PS4 is selling at this point weekly. Both have of course declined as the gen is in its 7th year but PS4 still has a chance to make Sony lots of money. Sony still has a couple really big software exclusives and just released a big trailer and preorders for ghosts of tsushima.

They simply don't want to kneecap their current console and games in mindshare and sales. MS isnt really selling much period and has no big software coming so they're just trying to get a beachhead established because they're not going to suddenly turn around XO sales this late

They would brag about power regardless of where they stand with Sony. You hype a console up over what's there currently not just against the competition. And you throw out big numbers for marketing.

it makes sense for MS to disregard current gen sales and it makes sense that maybe Sony doesn't want you thinking about that quite yet because even though it's different markets they want those people still buying PS4s especially if the 5 has BC to eventually lure them to PS5

On the subject of fakes, I just saw this floating about, and now my heart breaks it’s not real...

... yet ;) . People, keep on the lookout for what's going on with that Samsung partnership, I just got that feeling. We shall see...

Dunno if it's necessarily to prevent kneecapping PS4 sales or sales for their upcoming games, because I think the people who want those will be buying them regardless (and if they're just picking up PS4s now very cheap, probably aren't the type that will be purchasing next-gen systems at launch).

However, I think the upcoming games play a part into it. Sony might be wanting PS5 reveal to ride the momentum off TLOU2, Ghosts, and FFVII releases by pairing it as closely as possible to the end of Tsushima. It honestly has very little to do with if they're stronger, as strong, or weaker in terms of specs; just riding off the momentum of those games would be enough to convince a lot of people to pick up a next-gen PS5.

It's pretty smart on their end, honestly. All the same it remains to be seen if MS can necessarily do the same thing at as big a swing from current-gen to next-gen, but they do have Halo: Infinite and Cyberpunk which are both massive games in their own right, to ride off on for XSX later in the fall.

So, games... what's everyone looking forward to for next gen? I really want to see a mainline gran turismo, also really excited to see what some of my fav devs are up to including playground and santa monica, next gen is looking to be a healthy upgrade, cant wait to be honest.
Honestly? I’m craving a new inFAMOUS game. Don’t get me wrong I’m buzzing for Ghost and I’m excited to see Sucker Punch try something new and see if they can start a new franchise but, inFAMOUS was one of the first games I got with the PS3 slim for Christmas when I was younger and it blew me away. That game I think was the sole reason that I fell in love with Sony and the PlayStation brand, even though I’d owned a PS2 before hand and my parents had a PS1.

Yeah they're not the same market but imagine if Sony says PS5 will be released at $400 or even $500

I doubt they could continue selling PS4 at $300 (its official price still) and Pro at $400

They would probably need a $100 cut to maintain any sales and maybe they just don't wanna sacrifice all that profit at this point as every cent of profit on PS4 can offset selling PS5 at a loss and I actually think they'd still be profitable at $100 less for each so they're really taking in the dough right now with that and the games and subs.

Now I know they don't need to reveal price at the same time as they detail specs and I know a lot of casual gamers don't even pay attention to stuff like that and won't know about next gen till the advertising starts, but I think mindshare is a thing they need to consider especially in the social media age. As soon as you go full boar on next gen the perceived value of your current offering might go down. I guess we'll see what effect all the Xbox news will have on their sales soon though of course Sony has more to lose and those may have bottomed out already.

Ratchet and Clank is my favorite series ever. Xplay gave going commando a 5/5 and ever since I've loved the series (A4O and FFA aside). I really enjoyed the newest installment but would LOVE for them to conclude the lombax location story with a game set after the events of Into the Nexus. Been awhile but I think the 2016 game has kept interest enough that continuing that story would work and it would offer a nice opportunity to show off next gen graphics with something other than real world stuff. I love creativity and power intermingling for amazing visuals

salalah oman ? is it sultanat oman ?

Yup! Just push on the location and it'll show you exactly where. Have you been here? We get plenty of Euro visitors during winter as it's much warmer than Euro and even warmer than the rest of Arabian Peninsula for being sub-tropical. This photo I photographed in August 2019 using my drone in my region Dhofar. (Salalah is the capital city of the region)

I hope the photo doesn't disturb the rules around here. :messenger_face_screaming:

Or why not simply try to share some thoughts and have a laugh instead of trying to improvise tech, financial, marketing and videogame history knowledge with taking strong positions that are bigger than ourselfs? I'm not attacking anyone in particular, but I think there is still a problem if after you got something wrong you feel to leave the thread for a while. Why? Because you realized you wasted a lot of time on putting pile of arguments thinking they are the only way things can go due to "logic", despite you're improvising knowledge in deep questions?
Just say some stuff and if they are wrong, fine.
Not referring to you, anyway, just elaborating.
Most of us knows SHIT, 99,99% of this forum including me can't hold a candle to Cerny or Phil Spencer in what they do, the vast majority would be embarrassed in an argument with these people while being arrogant here.

Bingo. That's a GREAT addition to what I had posted too. Well said!

Yep, I have a feeling they are going to drop the price for both PS4 and Pro very, very soon. MS already dropped the price of the X to $300 (not sure if that's still in effect but it might be) and that's probably to clear out as much remaining stock as possible before launching the new system this fall.

If I had to bet, Sony'll probably drop the price for one or both of them around Summer. Probably only by $50 though. And they'll probably have a Pro bundle with TLOU2 at $350 or drop Pro to $300 either by then or when Ghosts comes out. That way by the holidays they can probably have Pro at $250 and maybe PS4 base at even $150, clear out as much stock on them as possible. Then sometime next year drop PS4 to $100 and Pro to $200 scaling back on production for both heavily to focus on increasing PS5 production numbers instead.

I'm curious to see how any additional PS4/PS4 Pro demand might impact PS5 production numbers this year, actually. It's cheaper than ever to manufacture but that's still money they have to put out. It's probably the one ironic benefit MS has with XBO being at about 1/3rd the sales; they don't need to worry too much about production budgets on the XBO S or X eating into XSX's production budget nearly as much.

*Both companies set their budgets per platform I'm assuming so it doesn't necessarily matter what amounts one is manufactured at to affect the other, but I'm just thinking out of the two Sony would be more pressured to allocate additional funds to PS4/Pro unit production to meet any sudden increases in demand. Either that, or try shifting the people who might want a PS4/Pro but can't find them this holiday, to pick up a PS5 instead, which is easier to do if PS5 is at $399.

Conversely I don't think MS needs to worry too much about any sudden surge of demand for the S or X; any increases will probably fall within being satisfied by whatever amount of those units they already have in the retail channels, plus any other smaller amounts they are manufacturing as planned.

Think it will be more than just a deepening of their work on low latency Displays for Xbox? I just thought it would be more optimization so Samsung become THE TV if you have an XBOX.

It's just an idea, but if you look at that one APU leak (a few weeks back, black background with white and red text) it mentioned a 22/24CU chip with TDP-down specifically listed among other things.

I thought it was interesting TDP-down would be listed because we haven't seen that with any of the other console or PC card-orientated APU entries that have been found. So I just thought that could be hinting at a portable hybrid or something like that, sort of like the Switch.

And with their partnership with Samsung, I figure why not let Samsung handle distribution of a specialty mobile phone-like device with proper full console-style physical controls that can also be docked to play at home locally, in the Asian markets? It could be a smartphone device basically that they still provide to customers on mobile data plans through the carriers, but they maybe could look to sell it themselves with the physical controls like that mockup shows, and a dock as well so fuller GPU clocks could be unlocked?

2.xTF in mobile form, 3.96TF when docked, basically fitting to be a 1080p local native gaming device when docked or 720p/1080i local native gaming device when portable, but essentially designed like a smartphone with all the usual functionality, optimized for gaming and Xcloud.

Samsung can handle distribution in Asian regions, they work something out with MS in Western territories and can position it as a high-end smartphone over here that can also work seamlessly with XSX. But in areas like Asia, basically push it rather than the XSX in those territories where traditional consoles aren't doing that well (like Japan).

That's what I'm thinking/hoping the Samsung partnership is actually entailing because it could work out very well for MS in territories Xbox has had problems in and Samsung carries a lot of presence in the mobile market as a whole, but especially in places like South Korea and other Asian countries where MS wants Xcloud to break into.

rdna 2.0 makes 2ghz clocks more reasonable. if anything it makes github more believable

So sony decided to take the Navi 21 series but get AMD to design a special smaller 36 CU one just to keep the xbox trolls happy !.......

Or do you think its likely in BC mode they turned off an SME to get to 36 CU, same as Ps4Pro ....in a BC test. Dont think too hard though....

Nah, you keep talking its funny I enjoy seeing people do mental gynastics, dont forget to come back when Ps5 reveals so we can laugh.

Honestly I think soon as PS5 releases they will discontinue the PS4 Pro.

There is no need for a PS4 Pro, that is the premium PlayStation experience but PS5 will replace that as the premium PlayStation. They will Sony go with PS4 Slim and PS5 going forward.

This is what I expect this fall
PS4 Slim - $299 Bundled with 2 Games
PS5 - $499 (if it's 12TF) or $399 (if it's 8-9TF)
PS4 Pro discontinued (save for remaining stock).

I think it would be a cool idea if Sony tried a PS4 Super Slim for $199 with no disk drive to test the market for people on a super budget.

No it doesn’t. Github was navi 10 lite rdna 1.
Both of these are true.

2GHz was insane to do in a console.

It was always speculated with Oberon being Nav10.

At one time Ariel and Oberon were the same just with a name change.

Rt and vrs were just turned off.

PS5 being RDNA 2 flips all this on its head.

So that's the million dollar question right now. Just how many cu's does the PS5 gpu has? RDNA 2, but only using 36? 40?

What exactly is Oberon? And what exactly did the tests show?

Or was it just BC testing...like many said. With the extra cu's not showing up...

No they need to discontinue the ps4 all together IMO, we dont want ports for Jag CPU anymore. It willl ghold the generation back.

They would be better with a 18 CU Ps5 (lite) for 1080p and zen2 like lockart than keep making Ps4...IMO

At this point I do believe in git hub but I think 10-11.5
Did the AMD presentation not say both next gen consoles are RDNA2 and Navi 2.x

So, as Nav10 10 stopped at 40, Ps5 is not Github at 36 unless other CU were switched off, its a number > 40 IMO.

So I believe either 44, 52 or 54 CU, chosen on efficiency and pricing which we do not know, but the posters who keep with 36 CU total are just Xbots. I would like 52 and 18 switched off in pro mode, but it might be 600, I also think XsX will be 600.
I'm going with github to the end! Even more now with BGs BGs confirmation, with the gif of the 36CU butterfly wings of the 72CU BEAST

That's in fact the total opposite of what he was doing. He never did so in peace nor in his opinion. Instead, every time he posted anything he presented them as facts. Repeatedly. Every time common sense was presented, you'd know he'd pop up to shut you down with his "facts". Extremely annoying. Because you know he's trolling, just like the other suspects who come out the woodwork.

That doesn't make sense unless PS5 launches for cheap.

The PS3 Super Slim was a budget option for when PS4 first released, same with PS2 Super Slim when PS3 first came out. There are still parents that buy their kids old consoles for the cheap.

There will always be ports for atleast a year or 2 like every gen what makes you think it will be different this time and how does it make business sense for Sony to discontinue their budget option. What you are suggesting makes no business sense whatsoever, and just your personal hoped and dreams.

My personal ????? I want 2 x Ps5 pro as high spec as possible (me and Son), and an XSX for any xbox exclusives I fancy...so stop talking crap and saying what I dream lol.

Any APU with a zen2 >>>>>>>>>>> Jaguar, Ps4 generation is dead and will not keep up, it is super weak and down ports will be crap real quick.

Zen2 is as much a gerenation change as RDNA2, and games you just cant scale if developers use that CPU power in any games.....might take a year but wornt take long IMO.

That’s what we thought but now I don’t think thats true at all if it never had it to begin with. No idea about VRS but you don’t need to turn off RT if the game isn’t coded for it. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Seriously guys... These new boxes comes at a time when new tech is saying goodbye to the old. The new consoles will be great. At the same time, when we sit and marvel at 12TF now, the GPU's comming to market now (RDNA2) are least two leaps above average steps is tech. There will be graphics cards for the PC with over 80 CU's. Both MS and Sony caught AMD at the right time this generation... They're on fire!
12TF is more like the norm than something extraordinary this gen...

So you think Sony should discontinue altogether and only sell PS5 this fall.

That is ridiculous Sony would be cutting out an entire audience of consumers on a budget.

Of what you say makes so much sense why hasn't Sony ever done this before. Not every person is like you who posts on a gaming forum and wants the latest system.

I think you don't understand my original comment my comment was a prediction of what Sony will do, and your comment is what you will hope they will do. That's 2 different conversations. I'm not talking about what I want I'm just speculating what Sony will do that's all.
