Polygon -Sony’s silence on PS5 has done wonders for the next-gen Xbox

Huh? GoT is a large game? Wut. Are you seriously comparing that to last of us? Haha WTF
This game will flop. We haven’t seen unscripted gameplay at all, only a small scripted Gameplay 2 years ago. This is a MAJOR redflag, but we will see how it will turn out.
And dreams is already out and I don’t think a reveal of the PS5 could steal away from their thunder:

I guess, It can’t get really lower than that.

If you want to do a proper reveal together with next gen games which are launch titles this year then it can steal away from their thunder easily.

PS fans are too busy playing games.
That what they talk mostly of time.

BTW revealing a product like Apple (one week reveal next week launch) or a year before release has no impact in sales at all.

In fact there is theories that Apple like reveals are the beat to gather hype and sales.

If you have so many games to play then why are there so many of you in this thread?

Also please enlighten me, what games are you playing that came out these last 6 months that a Switch or Xbox gamer can't play..? And that's keeping you soooo busy ? Just curious.

P.S: LMAO if you think PlayStation as a brand is even close to Apple.

What makes you think it isn't true for Series X or wasn't true for Xbox One? People always shot it down because they felt it was people's way of saying xbox would surpass playstation or close the gap, but it was just a way for them to get more out of the console itself, which has proven true. The cloud part was obviously nonsense, but not the DX12 part. Look at the clear DX12 releases on xbox compared to other games. Gears 5, Forza Horizon 4 etc. They look and perform at a level beyond many other titles. It's just not all devs are doing that. It's likely to become more common this upcoming gen.

Star Wars Battlefront was first DX12 on X1. So, what happened in the end?

Because you know there is thing called smartphone ;)

I’m only playing the masterpiece Death Stranding every day actually.... chapter 10 with over 150 hours... it is so addictive.

I put in hold DQXI... I’m about to finally buy Persona 5 (I was just waiting the extended version).

I never said anything about brand being on the same level lol Sony themselves used to talk about what I posted... they are chasing since PS4 a Apple like reveal-launch.

Bro spin it all you want it is what it is. If you don't want to lose such a stupid argument tell your Sony warriors not to bring it up in the 1st place.

But YOU brought up views....vs likes.

Do you even know the difference?

I don't even care about the argument. It is not an argument; it is pure speculation.

But you are comparing two seperate metrics as if they were the same.
Did you ever watch a youtube video?

Compare the views to the likes+dislikes.
Most people viewing a thing don't give enough of a fuck to do either.

You ignored my other questions about a reveal impacting sales in any shape or form. What evidence makes you think that's it's such a huge factor all off a sudden?

People are still "talking" about that Wired article not because it's soooo hype till this day like you're insinuating. They mention it because nobody wants to talk about a measly logo reveal. If you want to talk about the PS5 that's all you have.

My evidence is the fact that Microsoft has been having insanely deep discounts and software bundles just a move their units. They don’t have the heavy hitter first party, right now, that usually moves units in the process.

Sony still wants to sell their boxes at maximum profit margins. They are doing exactly what they did the gen prior, it seems to work for them. Just a little bit more info than last time.

Yeah well some people put as much as time in games like Gears 5 which actually scored higher than your "masterpiece". So you see, don't have to have a PS4 to be "so extremely busy" playing games.

Tell that about the games that are coming out to Xbox this year :messenger_tears_of_joy:

It is crazy how Xbox fans seems to forget MS lack of support for the platform mid to end gen is something that happened with every console from them.

They always make the same mistakes... every single gen.

“I’m playing the same old Gears and Halo”

Absolutely rubbish... Was curious what you would come up with and that's your "evidence" ??😂

Okay man just enjoy your PS4 ✌🏾

MS not trying to take advantage of Sony’s silence would be a dumb move. But if people don’t give a shit and are more interested in the PS5, that’s out of their control.
MS are just taking/tweeting all the time, they make sure they have something to give to the gaming media at least once a week.

For Sony, I would say that it all depends on what Sony will say when they decide to open their mouths... It better be good, because a good number of people are willing to switch side when a new generation is coming. However this time around the generation leap may be different, because of the whole backward compatibility thing, well maybe every previous generation of PlayStation had it and I assume that this is not what made them succeed, or fail.

Probably too early to claim Sony has become afflicted w/ps3 level hubris, but letting Microsoft suck all the oxygen out of the room, uncontested surely isn't good PR for them.

Come on man... Who doesn't have plenty of software to play no matter what your console is?

I think Sony's silence regarding next gen doesn't smell good, especially when you take into account top execs jumping ship (or being fired). The fact that they actually revealed the console all the way in April 2019 and have just gone radio silent since also doesn't give the impression that they have their sh!t together.

You choose to see that as a power move or whatever. Cool, we'll find out soon enough.
When Ken Kutaragi left, there was doom and gloom for PlayStation

When Kaz stepped down, there was doom and gloom for PlayStation

When Jack Trenton left, there was doom and gloom for PlayStation

Once you guys accept that PlayStation is a well oiled machine with many moving parts, then you'll realize that business will go on

At the end of the day those games can't be played on a Xbox so they add a lot of value to PlayStation
If that’s the case then in March MS added Bless Unleashed, Ori, PSO2 and Bleeding Edge, yet somehow aren’t supporting the Xb1 anymore. Plus they got longtime exclusives KH and Yakuza on to their systems.

Clearly they aren’t interested in supporting XB1 anymore and are only looking to next gen.

That’s how this works right?

As someone who likes both companies i think from a marketing perspective generating hype closer to the release makes the most sense. Take Apple for example, they generate a massive amount of hype around a new Iphone roughly 2 weeks before it releases. The last thing you want is to make the announcement to early and have people stop talking about it.

Well comparing the game lineups for this year is pretty telling. I might get Ori 2 but PS has the way better lineup

the only people that care are console warriors and the gaming press needing to meet their click quotas.

The ps4 still has high profile releases and it’s only March. Sony will have to drop ps5 info in the next few months and it’ll be a big deal then with plenty of coverage.
It will. I don't doubt that. But with Sony playing "wait and see so we can do what Microsoft does" while Microsoft continues to drop info about their next gen plans, could seriously come back to bite Sony in the ass. Especially as more time passes by and Xbox keeps dropping pertinant gaming news about their next gen hardware and software.

If people want to admit it or not, they are running away with the narrative at this time. That's just a fact.

Those who say this a good plan for Sony, think on it this way; what happens when Microsoft drops even more good news about their new hardware, show even more software that looks incredible and enthralling, drop even more GP news with a few surprises, and suddenly Sony releases their information, and their still underpowered, their high profile games don't quite stack up or probably not even show up and in many ways their game and streaming still seems like an afterthought?

This could become a reality, for sure. Sony fans don't know if they'll like what Sony offers until they show it. Its possible they won't quite engage Sony fans the way they hoped, and Microsoft has been dropping bombs the whole time.

Its a really risky game Sony is playing right now. Sure, they can hold their cards close to the chest if they like. And in the end, it might work for them. But there's no guarantee, and with Microsoft hungry to win back mindshare and really compete, and will be at E3 so they can really dig in, well, things get even riskier.

When you ask for rain, you gotta deal with the mud too. Just my two cents...

It's funny how so few people recognize the MS store yet everyone played the MS games on PC anyway, especially with the free GamePass trial :messenger_grinning_sweat:
Ummm that is the PC page.

PC page or not, it's Play Anywhere title.
Since both of you didn't understand what my previous means. It was referred to this part of the post :

Just 2 more days until I play this masterpiece while Sonyfans wait for a timed exclusive :messenger_winking:

This part surely implies how Sonyfans are withold for playing this game because Sonyfans doesn't have Xbox. Like i've said, will play it on PC, no need Xbox for this.

The thing is that MS has not shown any compelling software yet i.e. a system seller.

Sonyfans usually aren't idorts as well but when it comes to MS they all are idorts :)

It amazes me people still don't seem to appreciate that it's 3rd multiplatform games that move consoles many times more than any first party release. Can some first party move units, yes, but they don't do so at anywhere quite the same numbers as major third party releases. Call of Duty and numerous other major third party titles have sold more playstations than any first party title sony has released this generation.

This does not exist in a one or the other vacuum.

Sony’s diverse lineup with games that are in the tens of millions of software sales are still a driving force. Hence the sales gap disparity between the two systems. Which both contain the same 3rd party games, but not first party.

Otherwise, Microsoft would not be jumping on that first party studio trend that they seen the shortcomings they had in.

Example :

Life-to-Date as of August 2019 in the US.

6. Spider-Man
8. God of War

According to ZhugeEX, Uncharted would have made this list if bundles were counted.

Only games that sell 10 million plus are games like FIFA, Call of Duty, Red Dead Redemption, Grand Theft Auto.

There's a few more, but much.

NBA is one of the best selling franchises in the US, but it sales about 9 million copies within a year on 5 different platforms. Spider-Man, God of War, Uncharted surpassed that on a single platform.

The majority of multiplatform titles don't sell nearly as much as he thinks.

Final Fantasy 15 sold just under 9 million copies within a few years.
Witcher 3 surpassed 20 million copies on several different platforms. TLOU sold 20 million on two platforms.

You have to be completely ignorant in regards to sales if you think the biggest PS4 exclusives are for a niche audience.
