Local story : The restaurant i work at in Central FL has a capacity of near 400. CDC said to limit gatherings to 50 last night and the White House at this moment is saying 10 should be the number.

We opened 10 minutes ago and theres at least 50 guests, not counting the 50 or so staff.

Wish me luck GAF.

Side note : The owner is staying alert and said to watch our group chat for updates. It feels like a matter of time but until then we're still running. :\

In pretty inconsequential news, Amazon here (UK) also seem to be struggling with demand seeing as I am a Prime member and cant get anything delivered until the 23rd, at the earliest.

Tourism (I work in a hotel).
Damn, sorry to hear that.

Yeah I kinda could imagine that is going to get bad along with all of the service industries (Restaurants, Bars, theaters, etc.) and Retail.

My wife and I just started doing the online meal thing (Hello Fresh). Hopefully those keep getting sent to us.

Nobody knows.

It's clearly spreading in warmer climates as well though, so its not like its slowed down enough.

We can't make any judgements now, but in most of the warm places it has not gone crazy. Africa, Bahamas, Caribian etc... Now that could just be coincidence or hapenstance. And in places like Israel/Iran/UAE it has gotten there and there has been community spread.

I think that the only way temperatures can help is with underlying conditions such as regular flu/colds/pneumnia etc.... This will reduce burdens on hospitals and possibly deaths since COVID excaberates alot of these underlying conditions. Also warmer weather probably less coughing/sneezing/runny nose and all of that winding up on surfaces.

So its possible that warmer temps could help with slowing down the spread and help out hospitals. But I doubt that it will just stop the virus and we have seen it in warm countries as well. Time will tell.

Your belief or disbelief doesn’t influence reality. Look at the numbers in Italy, which is further along in its outbreak.
Italy has a populated that averages 11 years older, and as a whole the population has almost 50% higher cigarette consumption. I read that the average age of those who have died is 81 or something like that. This isn't necessarily "reality" for the US.

10 or more people!!

At least I can still hang out with all my friends

Im going to be very relieved if this is the case. As I mentioned earlier, my wife and I are wedding photographers and have been in touch with clients to discuss their plans if they are getting married in the next couple of months. One of our couples told us they would just pare down their guest list to under 50 (the previous recommendation). The problem is that I'm under self quarantine due to having Multiple Myelona, and don't want my wife to go and potentially bring it back home to us. I feel for people that have been planning their weddings for the last year or more, but I'm also in an awkward situation.

According to our contract we are allowed to sub out in this situation, but that's more out of pocket expenses in an already uncertain time, and I'm not sure who we would find anyway. Just an all around shit situation.

Luckily some of our couples are being a little more reasonable about this and are rescheduling for later in the year. Every time I tell my wife I'm willing to show up and work with a mask and gloves she glares at me lol.

Interesting. The guy on Rogan said that there wasn't a correlation between warmer climates and the spread of COVID. I wonder who's right.

That's the shitty thing, so much information is up in the air. No one knows for sure.

China has handled it with fucking draconian measures. Actual expected scale of mass Covid-19 infection if no measures are taken is 70-80% of the population.
5%+ of those infected will die.
No they fucking won't stop it with this alarmist bullshit. In the US there are currently 12 "serious/critical" cases out of a total north of 4000. There is not going to be anything remotely close to a 5% death rate as a result of this in the United States. The number of actual cases is probably an order of magnitude (or two) higher than reported in the US due to the spotty testing. Deaths are most likely being fairly accurately reported now, with cases being vastly underreported, especially with how many people are damn near asymptomatic.

Whats kind of darkly funny is that I dont think the Flu-bros at my work take their own position very seriously anymore. There are several who have claimed that it will be over in 2 weeks/a month/before june/insert random timeline/date pulled straight from their asses. All of which I've tried to make hefty bets with ($500 or more) and every single one declined.

So to those of you paying closer attention to all this. Is there any good news to be had? Is the spread slowing down at all?
No, sorry to say. I haven't heard a single shred of good news, not even from the general public.

It's only at the very beginning still. It will get a lot worse before it gets better. Sorry mate.

Where do you live? It honestly makes a pretty big difference.

There is some good news globally though: they are starting the very first vaccination tests with humans (although it takes months to go through all the trials before it will be widely available to the public).

All the cancellations of sport events, large gatherings is actually a good thing in terms of the virus spreading. It shows that the governments are starting to take this much more seriously, which should impact the numbers for the better but it might be a few weeks before we really start seeing the (hopefully massive) benefits of it.

Follow more news.

Macau ended their Corona crisis

Possible Corona cure tested on 50 people

US volunteers for first Corona vaccine

Then look at SK numbers still declining, look at Germany with its low deaths.

Its not all doom and gloom there is light at the end of the tunnel. EU and US are at the begining of this like China was back in December/January. Numbers will escelate but keep your head on straight. Smart countries can get through this with very few deaths. SK/Japan/Taiwan showing it can be done.

My job is still on the daily stuffing about 700+ into a small building to dispatch jobs. Like what the fuck? It's like they are exempt to the rules. They'll work through a nuclear war.

HAHAHAA, Way to be selective in your citations. I read the news constantly, and I wouldn't call any of what you linked news.

The average vaccine takes 10 years to hit the market. Don't hold your breath for a vaccine, it's gonna take a longgg while.

There are literally zero vaccines for any coronaviruses. Neither SARS nor MERS have vaccines either.

Those Asian countries are doing a bang-up job, but how is that good news for me in Europe? The western countries are a major shit-show.

Sure, there is light at the end of the tunnel, but it's going be months before we reach it.

Plenty of good news, vaccine trials have started and West Virginia is still case free.
OK, if you consider being case-free as good news. I do hope it stays that way and I don't consider it bad news either but sits firmly in the neutral territory for me as it doesn't mean there won't be cases, and it doesn't mean there aren't any asymptomatic infected either.

Man you said it.

Can you tell us what will happen next?
I expect canada to enter complete lockdown soon.
My suppliers are already limiting pick ups.
No personal pick ups. Just deliveries.

More and more full lockdowns for sure world wide.
A lot more layoffs in the coming weeks.

I advise everyone to buy a month or 2 ahead if they still can and by that i mean not just food.
More and more stores are shutting down here so go out and buy as long as you have the option.
Shoes shirt fire wood electronics etc. Do it now.

Fill up your cars PAY your phone and internet bills now in case you are stuck at home and dont have a credit card or auto pay.
