You don't think that private institutions are going to run out of ICU bed capacity? Please explain.

In the US they're building MASH hospitals with ICU beds and converting things like colleges and hotels into hospitals so they don't turn away the old people to die. The reason why Italy is seeing a spike in deaths is because they're telling anyone over the age of 60 to go home and die.

Some countries with "socialized medicine" are doing that, too. So it has nothing to do with that. Also, since a MASH hospital is set up by the US Army, hence the government, isn't that by definition socialism?

The missing cell phone thing has been debunked to hell and back... It is a 2% decrease in subscriptions due to business phones/laid off workers cutting cost, and migrant workers deactivating second per region phones due to travel restrictions. The same dip in subscribers you will see in the US. Hell, even we put the visiting kids phones on wifi only until things get better.

Stop falling for the shock headlines

I haven't seen any details about that. You have a link?

I think Japan is gonna start taking off soon. Yesterday 17 new cases in Tokyo and it was the biggest one day increase in cases for Tokyo. Today was 41.

I am thankful our government is actually a functioning entity that gets shit done. This past couple weeks has really opened my eyes to how lucky we are when you compare and contrast to other governments right now. Say what you want about Trudeau, but I'm pleased overall with our leadership through this.

The real killer of old people isn't COVID-19 it's socialized medicine and both Italy and the UK are proving that. But people will ignore it of course.
Meh tell me more, it's maybe that people in Italy are really sociable and has shitton of cases and UK tried that "herd immunity", nothing suggest that socialised helathcare are at fault. besides you know how many people USA has per square kilometer? 36. Italy? 201. UK? 274. So yeah, they probably has something to do with how much hospitals can take from the surroundings. If something would happened in the mid-west of USA, those people would overrun hospitals in there.

Oh and yes without socialised helath-care I would not be here.

I was until he tried to sneak bullshit into the aid package. Very weak move many will remember. I am not a fan of JT prior to this, but he earned a lot of goodwill in the last two weeks. That’s gone now.

Still way better then trump!

Nah. This virus's kryptonite is well disciplined Asian cultures that heed their government's orders.

The west, on the other hand...

As much as I have disliked Trudeau's decisions in the past I can't help but agree. I also have to say the same about Doug Ford to be honest, and I dislike him even more than Trudeau.

He hasn't been terrible either but II think the lock down is kind of a joke. They have way too many things that are deemed "essential". Like 90% of people seem to be still working.

All Hail C-Webb

Hailing from the Chill-Web

We're going to reach that point and worse.
It won't just be those over 60, it's going to be younger people who aren't insured, and then those who are under-insured. Then Insurance will stop covering it all together, and we will only care for those who can pay the full cost out of pocket.
That's where we're headed if we don't flatten the curve significantly.

Yeah well that's on Italy, you really cannot blame socialised healthcare. Try to pull USA lifestyle in Italy, people would go riot, they even have month of work holidays in summer.

Here is our stats, with socialised healthcare and less idiots:
Tested : Infected : Recovered : Dead

They will instead tell people who can't pay to go home and die.

Once capacity is exceeded doctors will be making choices as to who gets access to limited resources. In the EU that is based on chances of it saving a person's life. In the USA it will be based on the who has the biggest chequebook.

I get the feeling they are playing it safe for now, if no improvements in cases occur at the end of these two weeks I expect more stringent lockdowns.

Let me take a wild guess, socialized medicine? Don't answer, I can already tell you live in a socialized hellscape of a country. You guys should have followed the U.S. style of debt based healthcare and privatized insurance. Sure, you pay thousands of dollars for simple procedures like getting a cast put on a broken arm but when a giant pandemic hits you will have the benefit of MASH hospitals and infinite ICU beds!

It truly is the only way to go.

Trudeau is scum.

He tried to take advantage of this situation to make him and his cabinet dictators until 2022. The provisions stuck in would have given the right to make all budgetary decisions with no House oversight until end of 2021.

Would be like Trump sticking in a provision that allows executive to pass budget items without OT having to be approved by the House or Senate.

Italy update:

This is hopefully good news for predicting the total for Italy overall. Today may be much lower than prior days, provided other regions in Italy aren't still on the upswing. Will need to see what new cases are like though, as deaths are not always linear.

Meh, they revised it and got the Bill passed 12 hours later. I expect the CPC would have tried to do something similar.

I am happy it got passed but puzzled why in the world they would poison the bipartisan well of political goodwill that had been building up. Just a reminder of the mindset of Dear Leader Trudeau.

LOL, anybody with half a brain could've reacted when it appeared in China and the world would have been safe. But they decided to wait and now they are dealing with the consequences. China handled SARS-CoV-2 like a champ. The rest of the world like fools. Next time they know better, like it took SARS for China to handle SARS-CoV-2 better now. Doesn't even look like China fudged the numbers, because the data from Italy is pretty much the same both in terms of gender split (males 2/3, females 1/3) and age (young people less affected, children not affected at all). That's impossible if China had messed with the reported cases.

What??

China destroyed samples and silenced scientist. Forcing them to say they were spreading false rumors.

China handled this horribly. Just because they reacted late and draconian their propaganda makes it seem like the reacted like a champ. China is the reason we are in this situation since they couldn't contain the virus in Wuhan and let it get out. 5 million people left Wuhan before the lockdown without any screening.

While cases were building up in China in January, CCP was lying to its people not telling them about COVID, even holding gatherings of 10K people for their "pot luck", and allowing 100's of millions of people to travel across the country.

China handled this horribly and is why we are here. If China acted quicker they could of stopped 95% of COVID 19

CCP propaganda got you to make you think they handled this like a champ. Not to mention their lockdowns were brutal and draconian, way more than probably any other country.

So apparently there are vaccines, but they have to go through testing. Why don't the world make a god damn exception this time and take a chance with unproven vaccine?
That's better then the whole world stopping and getting Corona.

Because if it doesn't work it turns us all into Zombies. So do you really want to go from Corona to Walking Dead?

We already are zombies. This isolation is pure torture.
I even begun questioning why the hell I even work anymore if I can't spend that money on anything else then food and survival supplies.

People are still packing London's Tube trains (photo from this morning):

Wouldn't be surprised if London ends up going in the same direction as the worst affected areas in Italy and Spain.

Just build a fucking wall around London and let them get on with it.

The level of ignorance and arrogance is staggering.

Also the managers/directors who still insist on their employees going in to work in person everyday have blood on their hands. If you don't trust your employees to work from home then don't employ them. It's 2020 FFS, get with the times.

TBH my employer is still sending people into the office but I just told them I'm working from home - I didn't give them a say in the matter. Others should have shown similar backbone but didn't. I am still employed.

So I wonder because this has been one of the worst flu season in years if thats making the problem even worse.

Lots of underlying flu cases for the virus to make worse.

I also read that 180K people were hopsitlized for the flu, thats like 25-30K a month. Probably taking up a lot of beds.

CDC says this has been one of the worst flu seasons in years.

Also how the hell did MERS stay in Saudi and basically infecft something like 2500 people ? Its a coronavirus as well, but yet it didn't become a global pandemic.
