Xbox Series X still use Batteries for the Controller WTF???

"What it comes down to is when actually talking to gamers, it's kind of polarizing and there is a strong camp that really want AAs," Ronald said. "So just giving flexibility is the way to please both [sets of] people... You can use a rechargeable battery pack and it works just like it does on the Elite, [but] it is a separate thing."

The team at Xbox also spoke about some of the small changes they made to the new Xbox Series X controller. Senior designer Ryan Whitaker said the existing Xbox One controller is already designed to be suitable for the 5th to 95th percentile of hand sizes, and the new design improves that range on the lower end. The new design is aiming to support the 3rd to the 95th percentile, and these two percentile points actually represents "hundreds of millions of people," Whitaker said.

"And so just by slightly shrinking some areas of the controller, we found that we can actually reach a lot more people and at the same time make it more comfortable for everyone," he said.

Flexibility my ass

I Mean... WTF??!!! In This 2020? Controller still use Batteries AA????

Fuck you Xbox.!!!! People dont wanna waste more money for start to play.... People want Enjoy the new system.

This day and this present year, rechargeable batteries internal is the most basic thing in a controller

Yes, fuck you Xbox for allowing me to use the exact rechargeable batteries I've been using for my Xbox One for the past 7 years.

Fuck you indeed.

Yeah, because having to buy two controllers or having a cord constantly hooked up because your battery life is 6 hours is such a better alternative.

You can barely even complete The Order 1886 without your batteries going dead.
THIS SO MUCH

PS4 Batteries are garbage. Most people buy 2 just to have one on a charger all the time , you can't get through a single long gaming session without it dying.
I'd much rather it used replaceable batteries that I could just pop in for an instant recharge.

I'd rather be able to swap in my rechargeable AA batteries rather than have to go out and buy another controller or constantly need to have said controller plugged in. All my DualShock 4s can barely keep a charge.

But I can imagine the controller using AAs be a pain for those without rechargeable ones lying around.

I don't get it why people prefer this shitty limiting, smaller non replaceable internal battery.
With normal AA batteries, you just swap for new or keep 2 pairs of rechargeables and never have to connect the controller. And Xbox gamepad lasts like 40 hours on 1 set while ps4 maxes 10 and need to play wired then. I personally keep stack of Ikea batteries and they last forever.

Batteries give me choice. Internal is limiting as fuck and I need to throw away controller after few years and have no choice but to connect it to console in rest mode for a night and keep the stupid cable around. I know I can open the controller and replace the internal... But I need to search for shitty replacement that will last even less.
Replaceable AA or rechargable AA is the only way.

They could even sell a battery pack like they did for 360 for those who don't want to use AA. There is infinite choice and longer battery life with AA route. And my 360 controllers still work. Say that about ps3 controllers that are 14 yo...
PS4 is such a downgrade coming from 360 when it comes to controller batteries, it's not even funny.

i conect my ps4 controller via usb cable in a laptop with port usb and Zero problem to use it.

I personally never had an issue with batteries in the Xbox 360 or Xbox One controller. Out of the few negatives I had with Xbox this generation, batteries for a controller isn't one of them.

The fact that you have to do this is part of the entire problem, you're giving us ammunition here.

Not because i recharge when is almost out the battery, when is ready of course i disconect it.

I never have problem in recharge the dualshock 4, honestly at least for me i always play the ps4 and turn on my laptop in front of me xD

Actually, it should come with the rechargeable pack, and then people can be free to use AA if they want. That'd be a win-win, but of course, MS want to also sell you the rechargeable pack.

Yeah or at least... AT LEAST A fucking large cable to only conect to the controller.

For me is a anticonsumer move. First the console cost is expensive... at least they should put a miserable Internal Batterie in the controller.

Understandable. It's so anti consumer to be able to replace the rechargeable batteries instead of throwing out the controller and buy a new one.

Also let's not begin with the ssd, holy shit what were they thinking.

If they wanted to sell you a rechargeable pack they would make the socket for a pack a proprietary fit.

Please at least try to make sense here, there's literally five different approaches to how you can supply power to your Xbox controller, four of which do not involve giving more money to Microsoft

So it’s not anti consumer to force customers to buy a new controller if the internal one dies? Lol just grab the rechargeable batteries for them.

Why would you expect microsoft to do anything different? Their braindead fanboys love batteries and whatever retarded shit they do.

Yeah because giving the player a choice between disposable or rechargeable batteries is retarded.

Well then just put a extra Cable usb. I mean at least is temporal solution. And many controller can be play with only plug a Usn cable to the console.

Holy shit you must go through a lot of mobile phones. Internal batteries are rechargable FYI

Let's not pretend people have a phone as long as a console generation lasts.

Also PS4s controllers batteries dies pretty fast, it even comes occasionally on this forum.

Mobile phones aren't made to last 7 years like a console generation, just like the PS4 controller. I only use my PS4 for Netflix and chill and even by that usage my controller more or less has to be permanently on charging cable cus the battery is as good as dead.

I would say there's a lot of people who replace their phone not because it's not good anymore but because their battery doesn't hold a charge anymore? Maybe you missed the point here?

Also, please join the follow-up threads

Playstation 5 still use wall socket for the console WTF???
Xbox Series X still use graphics to show game WTF???
Switch still use fun for the Gameplay WTF???

I don't see why folks have a problem with this. Buy a set of rechargeable batteries and you're good to go. Have we become so lazy to the point where we cant replace batteries anymore? A simple task. It doesn't take 30-seconds.

I'd prefer if the Controller came with the Play and Charge removable battery in the controller, so that I could replace it if I wanted, or just use it without additional purchases as-is. Being that's its compatible with my Xbox One peripherals, I won't get too bent out of shape, because I'm going to just use my existing stuff. But, still, kinda sucks you have to buy more stuff to get what should be the defacto experience - but I do appreciate being able to remove the battery.

Do they at least have passthrough charging via the controller cable? That was my biggest gripe with the XB1 controller, having to open them up and take out batteries to charge them.
I'd love if they do. I've got a second set of AAs that I swap in, but it'd much rather have what you proposed.

So you're saying "for 2 generations users had to pay for a battery-solution; I'm still pissed this remains as is"?

I'm glad it's done that way. Might be less value for the average consumer but it's also a lot less waste produced and shipped.
(I'm also the guy who thinks that phones should not come with a charge cable as the average user already has like 5 of them)

Honestly batteries are a model we should have developed further : a standard, one-fit-all model than can work across all devices. Instead of having all controllers/phones/whatever have their own power storage, we could have a unique standard that you could easily swap from one device to another. It's better for your wallet and the environment.

You might want to look into into different kinds of batteries and why they exist. There's a reason my pc mouse doesn't need a battery change in 2 years but my controller does every 2 days.

...hate me...
This is the right approach but it’s better if rechargeable AAs can charge directly in the controller.

Knowing that you controller can go on and on long after they make batteries for it is great.

This is like when Nintendo said: "The 3DS doesn't include an AC adaptor, but you can use the DS one" right, like every single person in the world has one. That was the reason why I didn't buy the New 3DS. Those are solutions for people that already had a previous console, but not for new owners.

I know it's not a big deal at all. If I get to buy the XSX, I for sure will buy the rechargeable pack and that's it. I even like the idea that while it's charging, you can keep playing with AAs, but the thing is that something should be included in the box with the console.
