They do though iirc. I recall this feature being mentioned at X1 launch. Later on, very few games outside Forza used the feature.

Impulse Triggers was more about haptic feedback for the triggers rather than what DualSense is providing: haptic feedback for the whole controller and dynamic game driven trigger resistance.

Beautiful. Sony coming with the crazy futuristic design as usual and I fucking love it. I want my gaming console/controller to look like something out of a sci fi movie. Ain't tryna play no games on a damn VCR looking box.

Awesome, so if a headset is plugged in you could also just press it to mute both?

Well i assume that once you plug a headphone with mic you won't need to do that if you have mute control on the headphones itself. Maybe it does mute when you used HP and of course when control mic is used :)

This a very sexy controller. I hope Sony endorse developers to adopt the touch pad and controller speaker more frequently. I love the use that 1st party titles give to it. Just look at Tearaway Unfolded or Horizon ZD.

If developers try more hard and implement this features and use them in creative ways we could see even more awsome games

What a decisive group, and not on party lines!

I'm part of the X discord group, but I think it looks amazing (love the new look) and I'm excited to see if the feedback is just another vibration or something more interesting. I was always going to get a ps5 but this just made me more interested. Even the mic is a nice idea for casual gaming.

I love it, XB controller shape + PS symmetrical analog stick layout, it may be the most ergonomic controller ever created so far.

The X discord group initiating their "quick reaction force"

The first quoted guy ( Ashoca Ashoca ) does have a constructive, valid points and concerns, given DS4 and even previous controllers history, most their the features (sixaxis, touchpad etc.) weren't used outside of a few titles from the very first wave of launch titles, and even that was a very poor, forced use of them.

I especially don't understand why the lightbar(s) is still there, DS4 had it because Sony initially wanted to bundle PS4 with PS Eye just like XB+Kinect, but ditched the idea to drop the price from 500 to 400 at the last straight, but never bothered with disabling the damn light, hence the batter life in DS4 is so damn poor. If it turns out to be true for new DS as well, I'll post a picture of those 2MLN likes on Instagram whenever I'll see a thread complaining about it, for real.

You calling me a PlayStation newbie!!! Lol

Look dude, I don’t give a shit if you are a Sony fan or an Xbox fan — the ongoing circulation of the unfounded myth that is 9.2TF coupled with the never ending arm chair technical discussions are beyond tiresome.

You seem earnest enough, and you played Ridge Racer and Loaded, so let’s flag this as me mistakenly calling a sheep a snake.
🤝

As you could read my other posts, i am not happy with the ds5.
Light bar has to go.
Touchpad is useless and would have preffered a mini screen for stats etc.

And no light bar on back makes me think i cant use it for vr and have to keep my ds4 to play my backlog.

It looks like the mic input, not a headphone jack. Not saying it does not have one, but that is not it IMHO.

That's actually possible. The text on the PSBlog mentions the use of headset but doesn't really detail:

"DualSense also adds a built-in microphone array, which will enable players to easily chat with friends without a headset – ideal for jumping into a quick conversation. But of course, if you are planning to chat for a longer period, it’s good to have that headset handy. "

With the zoomed pic. So unless you they do have sort of open Bluetooth compatibility we are screwed. I remember asking a friend working for a sony studio about this, 2019, and said it was going to keep the jack. But as you said it might be that too. It's strange they didn't share the usual 4/5 photos of all angles of the controller.

I am concerned how much Sony spent, on an advanced haptic motor or a more generic one?

Im not sure if they used an advanced motor, and that eats up the bom, is it a good or bad choice?

Does controller matters, unless you are Nintendo looking for next quirky selling point?

We all take for granted the number of buttons on controllers but this bad boy has 22! If it's got elite controller back buttons that takes it to 24.

Anyone remember the says of a d pad and three/four buttons? 😂

It's not bad looking. The build quality will be the most important thing, because it was pretty bad with Dualshock 4.

I also hope they'll keep "easy screenshots" as an option for the share/create button. I rarely record footage on my PS4, I prefer making making simple screenshots.

I like a good and innovative controller and in late 2020 with lots of good and high performance haptic sensors in volume production (used by literally hundreds of million of phones and all) I think that the controller standard $59-69 can include very good haptic components (instead of standard strong rumble), why are you “concerned about it?

Haptic feedback and dynamic triggers are THE key differentiating factors and they are not going to phone them in with cheap knockoffs (see the speaker, even when they introduce a standard controller speaker they put a very decent one).
Were you around when some PS1 games like MGS started using DS’s vibration features? Heck yeah controller innovation is important :).

I like it, imo really good design and some great upgrades.
Two tone looks nice, but im not getting a launch console so hopefully theres plenty colour options by then.
Would be interesting to see this design done with transparent plastic, not sure if it would look as good as previous controllers

As a 20 years veteran, yes im around.
Maybe thats also why, rumble is rumble to me.

I hope Sony dont overspend time and money on haptics. Maybe they try to make that back by 'ring-fencing' gamers to their ecosystem?

Im not sure if multiplatforms will design critical gameplays around advanced haptics?

I think the controller looks rather nice. Seems to hint that the PS5 it's going to have black and white colors combined? I'm calling it the orca then, orcas are my favourite animal.

By the way, Sony is copying MS :messenger_grimmacing_
Haharrr I can't wait to see the consoles blowhole!

PlayStation marketing department needs a kick in the ass, communication has been lackluster for the things they do put out.
It's a joypad, they should and could have done a better job at providing valuable answers.

That might be the power on button instead of the PlayStation logo-button itself.
If you zoom in closely the PS button looks more like a flat sticker than a actual button.

It's a damn joypad and shouldn't leave questions on the table that are of importance.
LOL.... you can clearly see the microphone symbol with a cross through it. It's the classic symbol!!!

How is Sony gonna sell this at $30? It has more features than Xbox controllers:

Touchpad
Haptic feedback
Microphone (awesome addition)
Speaker
Gyro
(Rumored back buttons)

Among other things, DS5 is the most feature rich (standard) controller we have now.
