How will Xbox One effect Halo Infinte?

If it's the same game, which I assume it would be since you'll probably be able to crossplay everything in it, then by definition it'll be limited by what Xbox One can achieve in terms of core design, otherwise it wouldn't be achieving it.

However, for a launch game, resolution, frame rate, and additional significant graphical bells and improvements will probably be more than enough to really impress the console only crowd, since to them it'll be like going from an Xbox One version to a high end PC version of a current gen game. i.e. same core design but looks and runs way better and loads way faster.
the thing with halo that always impressed even on the original xbox was one minute you were in a corrode and the next in a huge open space, I dont think the xobxone will hold the game back at all

Of course. No matter how powerful and innovative the XSX is, since the game is being developed as a cross-gen title, it will be made for the OG Xbox and then scaled up in terms of graphics and framerate. The level design etc. will all be stuck in 2013. HOwever, in a radical scenario, they could develop entirely different games gameplay wise for both systems with the story bein intact but the chance of this happening is the same as Trump becoming a Muslim.

It wont, do high end pc games get effected by low end pc?

But I’ve heard this thing is costing MS about 500M so it’s possible that there are two different developments in course.

I’m sure it will look great regardless of platform.

Not sure it won’t just be another terrible Halo game from the hack cover band known as 343.

If I don’t get a series X at launch it’ll be because I’m fine with milking the smart delivery launch games for a bit with their One X builds for a bit.

I’m not jumping for a new Halo. Zero faith in the IP and cover studio after 4 and especially after 5.

343 have a lot to prove that’s for sure. After all, Halo 5 has the WORST AAA budget shooter campaign of all time.

My guess is that the Series X version will have 4K visuals with a degree of ray tracing, FAR better textures (maybe even 8K ones), some visual effects the X-Box One won't have (detailed smoke and fire, etc.).

Unfortunately, the X-Box One will be the cause of less than stellar A.I., and definitely in level design in the Series X version.

The sooner MS will give the finger to X-Box One S/X first party games, the better for the Series X first party games.

I'm curious. What console AAA shooters were better than Halo 5? If it was the worst there has to be several console shooters than are better.

On topic I'm sure Halo Infinite will be great. Plus it's very consumer friendly for the title to work on Xbox One. Since we are gamers here we want a good value.

I enjoyed halo 5 personally, I have played them all but wouldn’t consider myself a massive halo fan. I thought that you should just play as master chief and not another charter so that was a big mistake imo. I think its a decent

uhmmm...the game is being designed to run on an XB1 and PC.

i wouldn't worry how it runs on XSX. it will be better than XB1 but not as good as PC.

This is a false narrative. If its an openworld game, how is level design going to be stuck in any time frame? You stream assets in on the fly. You act like we have never had open world games before. Open world games are inherently scalable and broken up into small chunks that can scale. They have features that can scale.

I don't think you are going to get NEW experiences in games this generation (For example mission based games, there is literally only 5 mission types you can have. It doesn't matter what gen it is, that will never change). However, you will get improved and more immersive experiences. You'll get better audio, better graphics, with the occasional feature that you have not seen before, or couldn't be done on older consoles without a massive performance hit. In some cases more realistic, in some cases more thematic. Either way, its building on what we had before, not making something completely new.

yeah the whole narrative of game design changing because of SSD is a bit odd tbh. its not like we haven't had GTa , Red Dead or the Witcher 3 this gen that are open world games and very good at it to. not the tricks and stuff they use to load the textures and stuff will change but could you really see Witcher 4 being massively different? maybe when you go from open world into a cabin it won't load but that's about it. obvs higher res graphics and textures but game world won't change that much

thinks Halo Infinite is a new graphical benchmark
OP shouldn't be afraid of current gen versions of next gen video games, my sense is Microsoft wants to make multiple Halo games next generation and SONY hates them for that.

i love the halo franchise but halo 5 is definitely a terrible entry. It launched with nearly no content, a huge chunk of the mp maps are made up in forge and not built from the ground up. The campaign’s choice of always having four spartans means theres an overwhelming amount of enemies when playing solo, fuck the warden, promies have homing bullshit, locke is a bland chief wannabe, fuck the warden, the pre-launch marketing misled many of us into believing 5 would be this epic about chief going rogue and why (even though its clearly stated why in the second level), they changed arbiter into being one of those halo 4 krogan looking elites, fuck the warden, the twist of cortana becoming an evil space empress was dumb and she shouldve stayed dead (because it was a huge character moment for both her and chief and made 4’s ending very memorable), but so much for didact becoming chief’s rival eh 343? Good thing he died off-screen in a comic (except the fact he was way cooler than the warden) also fuck the warden.
And if the guardians where so powerful, why were they never mentioned beforehand? Also at what point did didact make it clear that the forerunner peace and mantle was an emperial peace? Nothing in the extended lore prior to five suggested that. The forerunners had a complicated system and the only time they struck anything down was open rebellion like with the humans assaulting forerruner homeworlds infected with the flood.

the only real saving grace is that the gunplay feels better than 4, (also firefight and infection can be fun) but another large issue with halo 5’s gameplay is that with sprint, they had to compensate by making maps larger and feeling more open, so a map like truth (midship remake) theres a lot more “run then shoot, run then shoot” whereas in the bungie era halo, midship was “run AND shoot” due to less downtime since the maps were made smaller, more compact and no sprint meant no need to withhold weapons as you ran about.

Not long to wait now, isn’t it July?
I mean it does kind of bother me that the first real gameplay we’ll be seeing is 3-4 month before launch. Every halo prior we’ve had gameplay shown from far earlier. Like with halo 5 we got a beta in january (or feb?) the same year as launch. With 4 we saw first gameplay during the march presser prior to it’s November release.

One thing that Microsoft has been criticised for in the past is showing games to far out. E3 they used to show games out the following year rather than the year it was. I think also with the SX halo is the flagship game so they wouldn’t of wanted to show the xbox one version yet. This happens at the start of every gen, I remember PGR being showcased just befor the launch of the 360 and same with some of the PS4 games

Im not entirely sure about that. During the engine reveal, 343i made a lot of mentions to the scorpio (now one x) version of the game which would suggest that, atleast early development, this was more of an xbox one game before switching ship to the SX. Not unlike how BotW started off as a wii u title before becoming cross-gen with the switch acting as the defacto port.

Now I’m sure Halo is going to look amazing on Series X.

Thing is the Xbox One is an incredibly low powered machine.

How do you feel Halo will run considering the budget of this title and do you think it will have held back the scope of the title at all?

Are they just going to lock it at 720p and 30fps and be done with it?

I hope so. Make it sub 30 if you have to. To develop a brand new engine for next gen and then make it still work on current gen is a stupid, stupid decision. Same for Forza. It's either going to look like complete garbage on current gen or it will be held back on next gen. In a worst case scenario both. Their messaging is so bad once more. We have Phil Spencer saying "We want to win next gen" and Matt Booty saying basically "you won't have a reason to update for one or two years, that's when we have actual next gen titles for you".

It is pretty obvious (with the recent rumors of Halo Infinite having been rebooted just one and a half years ago) that the only reason why it is on XSX in the first place is not because they planned for that to happen, it's because Halo Infinite was delayed by years. The lack of any new footage was another giveaway. And the terminations of certain staff, like narrative director.

again when you look at game development they make the best game they gan and it gets downscaled to fit what ever they put it on. have you seen how good panzer dragoon sorta looks in 4k on the xbox x? the textures were there all along but the resoloution at the time wasn't good enough to show it off. the SX version of the game will be amazing and won't be held up by the one

I'd say most of them. Halo 5 campaign was OK and the multiplayer was very generic and boring. Played that shit for like two hours and dropped it. Halo was fresh and new when it released years ago but has since stagnated and not been a thing to talk about unless of course your a die hard Halo fan.

I'd take a Doom, COD, Titan Fall, Metro, wolfenstein 2 etc before I'd touch Halo in its current state.

Im not doubting itll look amazing, but iirc MS didnt start handing dev kits until around january last year, plus the fact halo infinite has been in development since shortly after halo 5 launched would lead to one to believe atleast for the first few years this was planned as an xbox one game.

though i can see this too. Woudl explain a lot, but even if the general idea was rebooted, it was still originally concieved as an xbox one title (which is my general point)

the game will be fine regardless

but this is Microsofts own studio so they would of had privy to dev kits way before others had or at least know the specs of what next gen hardware was going to be, I know that it started development started years ago but they also announced that games would be developed on PC to. now when you say 2015 that could of been when they started work on the new game engine

Now this is the gray area. I have no idea when they began working on the slipspace engine. I want to believe they first began working on halo 6 before at some point early on someone said “...shit, we need a new engine for what we’re trying to do.”

but i have no idea. I dont remember it being mentioned in their waypoint updates either.

well look at UE4 and how as soon as UE5 is available they will simply swap their games over. maybe xbox one version might be using the older engine and XS version be using the newer engine tecH a guess or maybe both using the new engine but the one version will be scaled down a lot

I'm with you there.

Sony fans watching UE5 demo:

"OMG, now THAT! is what I'm expecting next gen to look like, MS' game reveals the other day looked crappy, I TOLD you having to support current gen was going to affect next gen games, UE5 is so amazing, blew MS showcase away with their crappy cross-gen looking games.

EPIC: UE5 also targeting as low as mobile phones.

You don’t actually see the full picture though. The Xbox one will absolutely affect potential design decisions in halo infinite.

Just take forge as an example. In forge you’re allowed a certain “budget” that you can’t go over or the user created map doesn’t work. The Xbox series X would obviously have a much higher budget than Xbox one, which would allow for a lot more detailed MP maps. But because of the Xbox one, they will be forced to lower the budget in all forge modes so that the old consoles can support maps made in the XSX version of forge and that ultimately, parity will be forced throughout all Xbox devices.

That is just one of the examples where current GEN will absolutely be limiting next GEN.

Most of them. I had to force myself through 5 because it was Halo and I wanted to finish it. It’s a gorgeous game, but that’s really all the praise I have for it.

Prometheans aren’t fun to fight like the covenant, and their weapons are terrible. Locke is bland as hell, and don’t get me started on what they did to Cortana. The storyline is trash, and the enemy encounters are bad. The warden? GTFO

Multiplayer wasn’t terrible, but the fucking dashing, ADS, ridiculous aim assist, and that stupid hover mechanic (and the ground pound) made it worse then previous entries. Don’t even get me started on that war zone mode, or whatever it was called.

Ya I still had more fun with Halo 5 then most MP shooters this gen

don't you think they would have announced that by now?

also that would go against their whole smart delivery stuff and cross compatibility

Why would a much better version of the game on XSX clash with their SD feature? If I’m not upgrading to XSX for awhile and I buy Halo on Xbone and it turns out the XSX version has (spitballing here) better AI, more enemies, bigger worlds, etc etc then that makes the free XSX upgrade that I will eventually get all the more enticing and better a value.

On the other hand if I buy the game on Xbone and the XSX is just an upscaled version of the same game then it makes an XSX purchase seem redundant. And if i buy an XSX and Halo and it’s just a prettier version of the Xbox game then what is the point?

MS has supported cross gen in the past and not gimped the next gen version. Even right now you have Flight Sim which will be neutered on Xbox but that isn’t holding the PC version back at all.

Why are we pretending that it's a XSX game getting "downscaled" to Xbone?

It would be like finding out that Last of Us 2 is getting PS5 enhancements, so that makes it a PS5 game that was "downscaled" to run on a PS4. It's still just a PS4 game with enhancements :messenger_tears_of_joy:

You will still be able to create all the modes you could always create and maps. Nobody knows if they will will add bigger maps to forge for Xbox one or not. Did the Xbox one not have big open world and consoles areas in halo 5?

You’ll be able to create all the modes that an Xbox one is able to create. You won’t be able to create something that takes full advantage of Xbox series X because that feature would also need to work on an Xbox one. Just like the Forge budget example I gave.

If forge on XSX wasn’t limited by the Xbox one, we would get bigger more detailed maps created by the community due to the higher budget an XSX would allow. But because everything needs to work on Xbox one as well, they will limit the scope of XSX forges capabilities so that all maps work on all devices.

That right there is next GEN being held back by current GEN.

The trailer / story we saw already looked pretty underwhelming... pity because Master Chief was a pretty cool character, it would be great if they could rebuild that mystique that surrounded him and get a good story and enemy design going again.

Hopefully they can accomplish this in Infinite. Graphics wise, I am waiting until the July event to pass judgment. We will probably get some actual gameplay (I have to think it will be more than a cinematic trailer by then).

Why should xbox one Hold back xbox series x in a Shooter game?
It is a shooter, not an RPG oder crazy physics game. Shooters are quite "simple". Everything can be scaled up and down without any problem. It is a simple script based AI with a more or less interactive world. Scale to 30fps will reduce pressure on CPU and scaling down the resolution will also take pressure from the GPU. Scale down assets to take pressure and usage from memory.

I look forward to the comparison from X to series X.

Given ONE was the start platform I expect the X will achieve 4K or scaling 4K and 30fps and Series X 4K and 60fps with some kind of raytracing.

I think it will be a hard sell to get people to upgrade from an X to Series X given you can pick up an X for about £200 if you shop around.

I must say I don’t really like this approach. It makes Series X look like a Xbox One Pro Pro console rather than the start of a new generation

The scalability should be impressive. 900p 60fps with worse texture sampling for base version.

I doubt we’ll see enemy counts increase etc but I do expect tons of added visual flair and post processing in addition to better texture samples and image quality.

It being designed with cross gen in-mind isn’t that much of a concern honestly.

I also like that I can engage in Series X launch even if I fail to get my hands on the hardware day one. Makes me excited for next gen as well as being able to sit it out and not pay scalper rates if I don’t get a launch system.

How will Sony get to sell the PS5 then? 🤔 What is the difference? We know that UE5 scales all the way down to mobile phones, so I guess someone will have to come up with something better that could only run on PS5 to make it worthy, I mean my eyes were telling me how amazing UE5 looked, but my heart kept telling me this engine can also run on mobile and ruined the whole experience for me, I want to see something that can only run on PS5, same as with Xbox Series X, if it can run on Xbox One, then it isn't next gen worthy, suck it UE5, give me something better Epic.

Am I doing it right?

Outside of any design decisions (if there is any), my guess would be lower resolution, frame rate, no HDR/RT and some effects being low or just non-existent. Game itself will still look good enough considering that the original Xbox One will be a 7 year old console with a shitty obsolete Jaguar CPU.

This game will be the Xbox flagship title. They put A LOT of money into an engine they made specifically for their next gen machine. I don't think you need to be too worried.

Not exactly.
Unreal 4 will fully support the next generation consoles.
Many of the features from U5 will be available in U4.

I'm going to say the game will run similarly to Halo 5. If you want the experience intended then you would have to fork money for the Xbox Series X version.

Unless they make two different games, Xbox One will impact areas dominated by CPU and I/O. So you can expect combat design to work around what Jaguar can do, and level/map complexity will be limited to Xbox One I/O capabilities. I expect on XSX a minimum of 60 FPS/4K and a 120 FPS mode, with the Xbox One version to possibly run at 30 FPS in single player.

Halo Infinite is no longer a "system seller" but a "subscription service seller", as it will be gamepass's biggest debut. That means they need to please Xbox One owners, they can't just ship out a shitty version for it.

Good thing is slipspace has been in Developement for over 5 years from the ground up to run on the series X. Hopefully like Unreal, or other powerful engines, the features ( Rat, physics, textures) can simply scale down. Resolution and frame rate not withstanding

Halo Infinite is no longer a "system seller" but a "subscription service seller", as it will be gamepass's biggest debut. That means they need to please Xbox One owners, they can't just ship out a shitty version for it.

halo if done right will always be a system seller, same with games like forza and Gran truismo people know the brand and they will sell their respective systems
