When I was a kid I learned to treat people equally no matter their race but now the goal post has been moved and we are supposed to treat people differently based on race, else we are called racists. The protests in the US aren't even just about George Floyd anymore.
It's about racism as a whole. George Floyd just pushed everything over the edge.
And the looting is partly a result of all the other stuff going on. The lockdowns due to corona, the recession, unenployment, the massive gap between rich and poor. Things aren't black and white.
Besides, I think a lot of us would at least contemplate looting during riots like we see in the US rn, if unenployed with no end in sight and a family to feed.

I'm honestly so tired of how politics seep from every facet of gaming, and entertainment for that matter. Its practically become near unavoidable now. I'm already somewhat semi-retired from modern gaming and politics still manage to rear its ugly head into almost every gaming related discussion. Its even worse when some people actively berate others for just wanting escapism in games without being reminded of the state of the world.
The industry should begin to escort these people who consistently propagate political messages and agendas in games out or at the least muzzle them fiercely with strict creative boundaries on how to design and develop their games, e.g. focus on "fun" factor and over-the-top gamplay for instance.

But the underlying problem in both cases is the wealth gap... whatever triggered these riots were always part of the underlying social consciousness, but the pent up anxiety led to the explosion (catalyzed by social media echo chambers as well).

The Hart-Celler act ensured white Americans would be made a minority, the affirmative action & constant assistance blacks & immigrants get has been ongoing for decades. Still it's not enough, now it's about "unconscious bias" & other perceived racism which cannot be defined, but exists in a sort of "I know white people hate us, I see it in their eyes" sort of thing.
This is no "civil rights" movement because what they're asking for now cannot be tangibly achieved (unless they completely dispossess white Americans & take whatever they want whenever they want, but that would be an act of war).
