There's a much wider international base of active members here, I think you've got some selective confirmation bias going on. Of course people are going to discuss the US president, with all that's going on in the world, in an election year. Just becuse not everyone has TDS when talking about him does not mean it's a right leaning sub.

Yes some xbox fans seem to be extremely hostile and wonder why they get banned from such behavior in the speculation thread, and the less hostile ones have systematic FUD generation. Most other threads are showing rabid behavior that needs serious monitoring. Maybe it's overwhelming for the mod team but hope they can manage.

In all seriousness, it depends on context. The second you start ruling without that, you don’t have a message board anymore, just a bunch of people frightened to be themselves, without tripping over some rule. Once you have no-context modding, you’ll have cliques consistently, successfully using those rules to remove people they don’t like, or alter a power structure.
I think most people understand basic decorum, and when and where language and heated moments are warranted. If they don’t, they tend to glow-in-the-dark as terrible users, with a constant average of poor posts, and get removed anyway.
Letting be people be people, and work things out without virtual helicopter parents (modern moderation everywhere else) is underrated. The current Gaf approach where two users get salty as hell at each other (as long as they don’t knock a thread right off course), but work it out, or part ways, is A+, and needs to be a standard.
That’s what needed to happen with the fuck off, instead of tattletaleing straight to the Ban Review thread, with intonations of tit-for-tat, and attempted moderation control.

Absolutely agreed on contributions.
However, it’s not rainbows and sunshine kind of world. There’s going to be jerks. There’s going to be conflicts. Maybe even sometimes between two good people.
Letting that resolve naturally, as long as it doesn’t turn into a ‘bar fight’ that wrecks the place, or swallows several other posters, is placing trust and a degree of freedom in users, which culminates in a happier, more open... less bitchy? Forum.
Consider the alternative posited a post back, and that’s a pretty good deal all around.
As far as poster and post, it’s not always so clear. That works for two normal people having a debate, but does it work when the other user isn’t operating in such good faith? Let’s say one pokes and pokes at another, and that person just goes nuclear. Under a context-less system, the victim would be banned, and the instigator encouraged.
That’s one example, and a mod had several other really good ones, a couple of days ago in this thread.

Out of the blue my ASS.
He was one of several of the usual Sony suspects that came into a thread about Xbox possibly buying another studio with the sole purpose of trolling and derailing.
Asscan of trolling was banned for repeatedly trolling that thread I'm sure although his personal insults probably helped. You want to talk about toxic that guy is constantly trolling and insulting people. I don't know how he's escaped a perm really.
Some of your other buddies got new tags to saying to report them for trolling Xbox threads and I think others were thread banned. Every time the thread would get back on topic another Sony fan would come in to troll and derail it. So, yeah, by the time your pal in question came in to troll someone telling them to fuck off and go back to the spec thread was quite reasonable.
