10 quid more for next gen games? No worries. I usually don't buy microtransactions filled filth, so I'm ok in paying a bit more for decent games.

If I really want to play it at launch, yes.

Only 1/3 the way through TLoU2 and I'd pay more for it. I'd pay that for the new horizon game and I haven't seen much of anything.

I'll also be way more careful about what I purchase at full price.

Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.
I always tend to say no to higher prices...

but, as soon as the games I really want start coming, I quickly change my mind.

It’s already $80 here in Canada, so we’re looking at $90 or $100 for AAA new releases

Guess I’ll have to be more selective on new releases

Hellooooooo backlog!

Most games I bought over the past 10 years have always been on sale. Very rarely if ever did I pay the entire $70 sticker price when they usually get slashed 6 months later.

And honestly, I would feel disappointed if I did pay full price. I own games from the late 90s/early 2000s that still feel like they offer more in gameplay value than a lot of games offered today.

The trick for me is it's not about the money, it's just about offering a compelling product. I would pay $200 for a game if it did something completely revolutionary and held onto my interest for a long time. But if it's just the same old generic shooter or platformer, then it's kinda like "so what? Why do I need this?".

These games always made $ on Volume so I don't buy into the bullshit that game prices are due to be higher because they have been the same for so long. I think this may be my last console generation ( if I even decide to partake in it) Prices have always been better on PC and an increase will either drive me back to PC or drive me to wait 9 months or longer and pick everything up used instead. So instead of paying $60 I can pay them nothing by purchasing used.

It'll be the same as this gen, I'll get the vast majority of games on sale while getting a special few day 1 (ex: God of War, TLOU2, Cyberpunk, Persona 5 Royal).

We have in 2012/2013 games for R$150 to R$200. Back in those days, a lot of people was into PS360, so was kinda of a nice price. Next gen came and prices went a little higher, R$170 to R$250 - no reason at all, but ok... Some games still went down not long after.

Now the dollar is high as fuck, we have games launched for R$200 to R$300. With US$70, chances are that a game could be high as R$400. My problem with this is because our PS4 and Xbox One games are printed here, so it's a national product, but the publishers insist in the dollar practice and we get fucked. That's so evident that a lot of people still are with the PS360 because games are still kinda expensive for the PS4/One.

I can only assume that we kinda are in a 90's era again, when Mega Drive and SNES are still active and just here and there we saw a PlayStation or a N64. Piracy will run the land again on PC and the the gaming market will crumble

I learned my lesson not to pay that amount for anything non-essential a long time ago. No matter how epic the title is...I usually give them about 4-years and then buy.

yes and no. i'm hardly willing to pay $60 for 90 percent of current games, so it will be more or less the same scenario, wait for price drops-outside of a few games.

Day One purchases will be less common, maybe it’s up to devs to bring more value as well.

Add another $10-$20 for Special Editions and with tax we are around $83-$95 out the door.

I’ll have way less patience for bug ridden launches if I’m going to pay that much. And with the extra hardware texture pop will probably get some side eye from me as well. Is it wrong to expect more from devs if they are adding $10 and have extra features that supposedly make it easier to optimize?

Nope. Last year the only game I paid 60 was Sekiro. This year every game so far was in a deal.... No way I am gonna pay 70 in something that will probably be 20 in 3 or 4 months. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

So I say yes but its with caveat. If the difference between this gen and next is basically a resolution bump and running faster with frame rate stability with little else to differentiate then no. To me that is not indicating true work to justify a price bump...its basically just better hardware. Show me stuff that really sets a new bar then yes... I will happily spend $70.

Since the NBA2K21 70 dollars price for next gen, and some publishers saying they might rise the entry price for games in the next-gen. There's been some discussion around it, and a lot to discuss on the matter if you are up for it, like if the games cost the same or less due to inflation, how much truth is on the rising costs of production, if the playerbases are the same than old days, microtransactions, etc etc etc.

But at the end of the day it's just one question and is up to you, the consumer, to decide. Are you ok with paying a new MSRP of $70 dollars for videogames?
No because...

I have the golden edition for $89.99
or
The Super Deluxe Platinum edition for $99.99
or
The Utimate Ram you in the Ass Crazy Edition for $129.99

When does this end. I am not mad the base price went up but just know I can expect a ton of Micro transaction bullshit to follow it.

Games on consoles here in france (and some rare exceptions on pc like Gears 5) are 70 €, which is 78$, and it's been like that since the ps3 / 360 gen, it used to be 60 € before. On pc in general games used to be 50 € here, until maybe 2012-2013 where more and more 60 € games started to show up.
That's already quite expensive, and if that means that we get an increase in price to, leading up to 80 €, I mean what the hell, nope.

yeah that has to be one of the most disturbing trends to really catch on this gen. "Gold etc." editions. It floored me at first seeing this in stores. I usually don't buy any deluxe editions unless i am well informed and pleased with the content added, and after multiple price drops. I live in the 30-and-under shopping price range.

I only bought one "deluxe" edition of any game and it was by accident. Borderlands 3 for $69.99 cause the store I went to ran out of the regular copies and I was too lazy to go to another. Other than that they can fuck off with these "special" edition games. If your collector than I can understand but I don't collect anything.

Yes, for a game I like I'm willing to pay $70, just like what we currently do.

No. I will continue to use CDKeys to get new games for cheap. The ones that I cant use that I will buy used or wait for sale.

Nope.
Said it in another thread but around here the price of new consoles games has almost doubled in the last 10 years. Another $10 would make the price go even higher so unless Sony and/or Ms start offering regional pricing I think I'm done with buying console games at launch (at least for now). If I'm really hyped for something I'll probably just do what I already do with Nintendo games, buy used and resell after finishing it.

Not so on PC where every big storefront and almost every published has adopted regional pricing

I rarely pay $60 for games this gen. I’ll keep waiting for sales unless something is really amazing.

On average, I sure won't. I already wait wait wait for most games. My Day 1 purchases will surely down.

$40 was a better price point. People get judged for buying too many games. Go ahead and make it harder to gift, collect, or play everything day one.

My only problem is that as someone who does buy games at launch I feel I am subsidizing games for people who buy them months later.

Like there is no way I would buy a Ubisoft game for $70 because I know in like 3 months it will be $39.99. And I have been burned too many times.

But I have no issue in principle with paying $70 for the next GTA or the next CDProject game or most Sony exclusives for example. Because I want to support high quality content.

Some games worth far more than 70$. I wish a game could be price according to their value. Witcher 3 for 100$ is reasonable as is RE3 for 40$.

If all of us would vote no we might have chance to stop this increase.

But noooooo some of you are willing to pay today 70 tomorrow 90 to ruin it for all of us.

Just know.....i will knock on your doors to pay me the difference since you guys dont care where your money goes😈😈😈😈

I doubt it. I rarely pay more than $30 for any game. Usually $20 or less. I'll make an exception maybe once or twice per year, if that.

Depends on the game, but if they try to throw micro transactions then blah. I don't mind paying 70$ per game as I don't buy every game under the sun, but I don't want those games coming with micro transactions either.

This will probably be where I hang up the gloves on gaming. It's becoming a little to expensive for the return investment IMO.

As I get older and have other expensive obligations and little time for games, $70 base is just a bit out of my reach sadly.

Edit: Although, one could make the argument that my gaming is solely that of one to two games. Maybe instead of buying two games a year (Halo and Destiny for example for $120) I buy one and dedicate all my time to that which will be less than what I previously spent. 🤷‍♂️

No, I play on PC, I don't even pay $60 now.

But how are PC developers surviving?! They must be going out of business having to take all the time to put in higher frame rates and pushing out the draw distance and upping the texture filtering.

It wont last imo. In the UK, the first year or so of a new gen, the games are usually a bit more expensive than past gens, then after that first year or so, they fall back down to the standard £40-50. I'm sure next gen will be no different.

My Ps5 will only be for exclusives, everything else is on PC where games can be found for much cheaper so this isn't a huge deal to me.

Eh...not really. I know "rising development costs" and all, but I'm still fine with the level of graphics we had in the gen of PS360, so it's a really hard sell for me to be paying more for a graphics upgrade that I never asked for.

I'm willing to pay that price only if the game itself is worth it. if it's a single player game with great gameplay and no need to pay anything extra, sure thing. or if they're something like Monster Hunter World where the game gets continuous contend support for free and the only thing you need to pay for are really small optional cosmetic stuff. I'm not going to pay that price for some Sportsball 20XX or Military Shooter: Secret Troops or stuff like that. games that comes out every year and taking in millions from microtransaction are definitely not worth that price.
