Disney Tells Movie Theaters It's Over - Mulan Going to Disney+ For $30 in the US

godhandiscen

There are millions of whiny 5-year olds on Earth, and I AM THEIR KING.
I wonder what Disney will do once it runs out of properties to remake. Their original IP hits of the last decade don’t serve themselves well to being serialized. I saw the stock jump, but I don’t believe in the organization long term.

It's an interesting way of doing it.

By making it $30 one-time-thing, you're still incentivizing a theater visit (when they're a thing again), rather than just renting at normal prices, or selling.

This is probably the path of least resistance for finding a day-and-date-with-theaters home video release method that works for everyone involved.

Remake the remakes but in CGI!

Live action Lion King remake, but this time CGI!

Live action Aladdin remake, but CGI!

And then after that they can remake the remake of the remake in traditional animation and then restart the process.

All though Disney keeping song of the south on the ready.

Disney is being very greedy and very stupid with that price. They should just charge the price of a movie ticket, but charging more than even for a blu-ray? WTF?!

First of all this movie is not one I was waiting to see but if someone came up to me wanting to go see it at the movies I probably would , but no way I’m blowing $30 for a movie that looks average at best.
Disney can go screw asking for that much.

Tron 3 with any luck.

Terrible pricing but who knows, they’ve probably done their analytics to show that their user base will eat it up.

At those prices I’d rather wait until I can buy it on physical media and then view it as many times as I choose or even sell it in order to recover input costs.

It’s Mulan, you can’t tell me this is some sort of life changing movie experience that can’t wait to be seen.

I don't know what everyone is complaining about, I would happily spend $30 to watch a new film release so I could watch it on my calibrated TV and not have to get a headache from the horribly setup sound systems in my local theatre which I think their idea of setup is just turning everything up to max volume. Oh and I wouldn't have to be near other annoying people and I assume I would be able pause the film when I need to take a piss.

Granted I wouldn't pay $30 for Mulan and I don't think it should be hidden behind a monthly subscription service either.

I want to make a witty comment about Mulan, but I was never going to watch it.

We'll see how it does, but I can't imagine many people are going to spend $30 for a movie rental.

Seriously 30$ isnt a lot. I guess most of you dont bring kids to the theater, that doesnt even cover the entrance for me and my 2 kids.

Ill be able to watch this at home eating and drinking whatever I want while watching this with them
Seems like kids movies will benefit the most from this model. For a single viewer its awful.

That's not even to own, just to rent? Fuck off mouse

Watching at home isn't going to live up to a cinema experience for 99% of us.

That fucking price tag, gtfo of here you greedy fucks.

They just fucking amazon prime’d their own service.

How the fuck does no one understand how to run a fucking streaming service except Netflix? God damn.
What's the issue with prime? Seems perfectly fine to me, especially given how insanely cheap it is.
Yeah their originals are lacking a bit right now, but once LOTR and Wheel of time hits they be zooming.

Prime video is great. Only people that hate it are the dumbasses that can't watch anything made before 2012.

Digital is typically cheaper. They get 100% of the profits from this, no cut for the theater, no big screen and triple the price - and locked behind a subscription on top of that.

Torrenters and streamers are laughing right now, though

You know, even though some of you probably think screw Disney they're a rich corporation, they were hit very badly by covid.

Their parks didnt bring any revenue, they spent a fortune on a bunch of movies and now they are just trying to recoup some of that loss. They basicly lost everything on onward early this year, they have to find a way to get back up

That made me tear up. Just make a sad YouTube video and get millions of views already. Also, show you giving Disney 30 dollars and them crying happy tears. It will go viral.
You really have some feelings for Disney lol. Millions of people lost their jobs and houses and even died during the pandemic. I am not going to cry about Disney here.

They had a lot of really cool looking posters and triptychs all over Disney Springs and there's a huge AMC theatre.. This was one of the last major releases still slated for 2020. This will definitely affect the theatre industry.

Grab some more IP from the public domain and make it their own

Hey hey hey now, easy with the personal insults. Why so serious?
If you go through my history, you would see that I am furthest from a commie. Capitalist right wing forever.
Your post just seemed funny to me, how much it really cared about Disney that's all. The importance of corporations is not lost on me, but an insanely rich organization like Disney would not be high on my list to care about.

So you don't care about these students who pay their tuition working in the parks in the summer? Or the kids working in theaters? Or the local theater owners?

I mean screw Disney and the big mouse right

They're at the top, they make thousands of lives better, if you don't feel bad for them then it's pretty fucking weird if you ask me

Bro you have to chill the fuck out. Your post seemed extremely sentimental and funny to me. that's about it. My limited point is that Disney aint going anywhere. And your initial post seemed like it cared more about Disney as an organization. I actually mentioned that I care more about people who lost jobs (including at disney).
Ok? Now take a chill pill and relax. Jesus!

I'm pretty calm, but thanks for caring about my emotional state

I care about any organizations that employs and give revenues to thousands of workers

I'm in Canada and I personally know people who goes to Florida every summer to work at Disney parks to pay their tuition, that makes it possible for them to work less during school. People just don't see the big picture, it's always screw the big organizations.

Sorry if that wasn't your case and misinterpreted your post though!
