Sold my switch today...

I haven't bought a Switch for similar reasons despite loving the Game Boys, DS, 3DS, SNES, N64, GameCube and Wii, plus the joycon drift issues.

I haven’t really been an Nintendo guy during my life. I grew up with an NES but didn’t own another until GameCube. Even then i barely used it for much more than Mario Sunshine and RE. I had a wii but didn’t use it. Didn’t have any of the handhelds since Gameboy. I did have a Wii U but felt the system was gimped and I hated the gamepad.

Switch fits for me because I missed a lot of Nintendo over the decades. I dig being able to play stuff I missed. But I can see if you were with them all along it’s stale now. I mostly use it to take to work. We keep a dock there and I’m basically being paid to play Mario Tennis against my director daily. I think we are probably at 500 hours since it came out. The most I’ve ever gotten out of a game in my life.

tbh i think it may be the last nintendo console i purchase until i feel compelled to do so again. I have purchased every nintendo system since im a kid and my love and nostalgia for the company is hard to describe. But when i found myself completely unimpressed by odyssey, botw, pokemon, luigis mansion, and paper mario i came to the sad conclusion that my taste may have changed. I feel like the inner child in me has died just a little today. The company has always been geared towards children but never have i felt less challenged by their games and that makes me think maybe ive outgrown them. And how many times will they recycle the same ideas ? As long as they sell so that wont change considering the success. New ip’s maybe ? Probably not. Loved astral chain though thought it was wonderful(third party game). But all in all love you nintendo thanks for the memories ❤️ (Maybe once i see prime 4 i throw all this out the window and re buy the switch who knows)
Join the club. Even as an adult i’d love to experience Nintendo’s games but I REFUSE to buy ancient outdated, basically paywall hardware to play their games. The last Nintendo console I bought was GameCube. (Never been a portable or mobile gamer).

It’s long past time Nintendo gives up on this hardware paywall that is severely outdated at launch just to play their games. Go third party Nintendo, you will sell bundles more games.

I put mine on sale too (I could have sold it before, but I'm quite lazy about it). The problem is that my PC is currently playing switch games at better FPS and resolution than my Switch does (except from BoTW, which I play on CEMU, so it doens't matter), so it has been collecting dust for quite a time now. I'm sorry, but I don't see myself playing BoTW2 at 720p and 30FPS. Or God knows how is Metroid Prime going tu run.

What Switch games are you playing that run better on PC? Or did you mean Wii U games that are Switch as well?

OK, I'm selling it. I got it on release day for 300 EUR. I can sell it for pretty much the same amount 3.5 years later. Nice.

Obviously check your eBay/local equivalent listings and retail situation before you do it. I'd even buy it for 300 euros. That's a bargain for my neck of the woods.

You're doing it wrong, that's the problem. You owned a Switch with the idea that you buy Nintendo games on it only, when Switch is the console that breaks this tradition. Nintendo games are the weakest aspect of the Switch, but the third party support is surprisingly good. I own over 100 games for the Switch, and 90% of them are third party or indie.

Sure, some of these games are multiplatform, but the appeal of the Switch is to have some of these games in a portable fashion.

That's interesting. The post was liked several times, so I guess other people feel the same. I always figured Nintendo games (or other platform exclusives) were the main reason people bought Nintendo consoles. Personally, that would be the main reason -- probably the only reason -- I'd get one. I'm not interested in gaming on the go. Multiplats would get played on PS4/5. If I were to get a Switch, which I think about occasionally, I'd be getting it just to play the exclusives, docked.

Anyhow, I'm surprised to hear how many people have sold their Switches.

I have two, one for me and one for my son who is 13 and we never play it. It literally has been turned off since botw and even that didn't wow me. Idk ppl have very specific tastes and for many the Switch can be the best thing in the world, for others its ok, I fall in the latter category.

Two or three consoles in my house just doesn't work as we are just more invested in Sony eco system and even with that we have a backlog and more than enough to play.

I remember when I realized Nintendo games were mostly for little kids. It's ok.

Now that it's a huge userbase, lots of great ports have shown up, and you know 3rd parties are eyeballin that easy money

seems silly to sell the best handheld console ever, cause Nintendo makes games for toddlers...who cares?

Don't feel your inner child died. The Nintendo now is not the same as the Nintendo of 20 or 30 years ago and the games they make are a lot different.

Did the same, after booting up my vita and realized how much more I love the vita. I sort of regret it now though because there are a lot of indie games I want to play. Not buying indie for the PS4.

Vita was my favorite handheld ever. So many gd memories and that quality and feel of premium with og.

I think that the only thing that I’ve noticed change about Nintendo is that their games have become less challenging. They have always provided a variety of games aimed at different age groups with the ultimate goal seeming to be making fun games and centering the console around family interaction.

The past two generations have been a PlayStation focus for me, mostly FPS games. However, I realized after Destiny that games had become like a job and the fun was being sucked out of it for me. I got married and had kids and lost most of my play time as well. I decided to buy a Switch and realized how fun gaming used to be.

I don’t have a ton of time to play anymore, but I can quickly pick up and play games with the Switch. I can also enjoy games in a family friendly and fun environment much more easily than on PlayStation. The Switch is my favorite console since the SNES. I will still play certain exclusives on my PS4, but I find myself much more drawn to playing a handful of games on my Switch for a couple of hours rather than putting in that same time playing CoD or Spider-Man.

I made the mistake of buying all my switch games digitally. Now I'm stuck. Its my second nintendo console after the Wii. Got rid of the Wii a long time ago. But now I'll hold onto it but I might be done buying things for it for a long while.

My inclination to play Switch games went away completely when I upgraded my PC. I kind of hate it because I have a bunch of games unfinished on Switch. Now I have TWO backlogs to catch up on.

I got mine on launch year for 150€ new (they dont sell that well here) and liked botw(had it on wiiu), xenoblade, Mario+rabbids and then about nothing.

Odyssey were literally most boring and depressing game of last 20 years, pure shit. I havent liked any 3D mario so kind of expected.

Then there are 2900 other games that are 99% mobile phone level poop, ports that run 240p and wiiu games I already have.

So switch is bad system IF you dont like their basic nintendo games. And too many low tier games to find good ones between.

Portability doesnt add much as gaming outside of home isnt a thing here, ports are always worse than ps4 version and it lacks of serious big budget AAA horror/rpg games

I modded mine and played some C64+ps1 games and thats about it, collecting dust.

Switch is basically like vita, but quality is worse and even less big games if not counting Nintendo IPs, but vita still feels like epic piece of hi-tech. Switch is just a cheap toy with premium price tag

Honestly... I'm contemplating it.
My journey is a bit different, as strange as it sounds the Switch was my first ever Nintendo console. I only had PlayStations and whatever was before that (it didn't have a name or was too small to remember the name) but it had cartridges.

When I bought the switch I was amazed. You're telling me I can play this Zelda game that looks amazing anywhere? And all these Indies? and whatever quirky stuff Nintendo comes up with? But that amazement lasted for like a year and I think my gaming habit has changed. I don't really game on the go anymore. I live really close to my workplace so I don't game on commute, and when I'm home I play on PC or main console.

And recently even when I travel I have my laptop with me and sometimes a DS4, I just can't find a spot for it in my gaming life and honestly I feel guilty.
Are you me? I can totally relate but I have always felt remorse after selling consoles.

Ah good ol "my Nintendo system gathers dust" idiocy.

People only "outgrow" Nintendo.

Other consoles are for ADULTS.

When one comes of age and becomes a man, they play videogames somewhere else.

Is this the thread where men come to beat their chest and share how big their dicks are?

"I don't play videogames on Nintendo, I play videogames on another piece of plastic, a more mature piece of plastic!"
"I'm insecure about the videogames I play and the logo on my hunk of plastic"

Nah, cuz insecure "gamers" will still exist in the morning. Won't help much.

Why?

OH I GET IT, ONLY KIDZ LIKE NINTENDO LAWL!!1
God damn, I indigoSociety . You really got to the poor fella.

The focus on dlc over starting to make new games is really dissapointing, especially with all the "enhanced ports" for a generation old games.
Wii U always had you looking forward to something new coming up, and unless its like the final year of wii u (botw 2 buildup with lack of games).
The amount of exclusive really high quality (aa or aaa) games is prob the fewest it's been on a nintendo platform for year 2 and 3.
Last year there was a 7 months drought (until FE released) for a new game, this year , we might have a full year drought if you dont like animal crossing or paper mario. Havent bought a game since i think Astral chain or pokemon, which also felt rushed and got the least playtime for me in the entire pokemon series, and I even did get the starf berry through battle tower just to test a gimmick.

I guess its more prizemoney for the Dota 2 international pot instead of games.

Hopefully Pokemon Unite delivers, even if its optimized for phones, and seem to not be competive (since you might not be able to win by overwhelming opponents base, but just win on timeout?!, i sure hope to be proved wrong on that point, because the potencial is huge)

Their first party support has been super underwhelming for me..... Worst mario in a while, worst Zelda, Newer mario karts are not as fun, Smash is good but that only really shines with local play, Pokemon too easy......I don't think its that your tastes have changed...its Nintendo that has unfortunately... But as an indie handheld machine though, its God tier, so I will be keeping mine around for that alone.

I don't really blame you, I haven't touched mine at all. I purchased Animal Crossing for it, opened it, and haven't played it. I just haven't touched my Switch in forever and I have no urge to either. That being said, I don't want to sell it just yet. But it could very well happen in the future.

Thats whats so rad about the switch. Because battery needs, handheld gpus are less powerful

As a result, we get older games with all DLC for like 30-40 bucks!

If you can't get lost in 60fps Diablo3, or any of the three borderlands games for hundreds and hundreds of hours, maybe you deserve Animal Crossing.

tiny tina DLC is worth handsome collection alone.

Okay so the Switch would immediately become worthless as soon as there's "nothing" to play / as soon as it becomes boring.
Damn, does this applies to other consoles too or is it just the new Switch exclusive feature?

Yes?

While, I don't agree with their being nothing good to play on Switch, I would say IF a console had nothing good to play it definitely would be worthless.

A gaming console's entertainment worth is based on the games worth playing.

I don't understand what challenge has to do with whether or not you enjoy something, obviously you need to be engaged in something and use some brain power but I think you are overthinking it.

When I play games with my 5yo niece (on Switch funnily enough, so far we've played: SMO, Abzu, The Stretchers and Good Job!) I don't get frustrated because she isn't actually advancing the game or going to the next area or dying over and over, she just enjoys the content in the moment and doesn't necessarily want to move on.

This sort of play just leads to me noticing things I missed even in the games that I played for twice as long as I needed to see everything.

To the new IPs thing, I think they are coming but in the form of indies right now really, and they aren't always going to be exclusives - most of the time at first but then we're seeing some things coming to PC later now like The Touryst, but that could just be Grezzo's plan rather than timed exclusivity - although they did make an effort to evolve Zelda, Smash Bros and Mario (BotW much more than the other two) for modern audiences so its not like there is no innovation of the main IPs even if they aren't "AAA" new ones.

Hopefully the ultra-money that Switch is bringing in for them will let them expand the 1st party teams (the industrially named ones) but maybe thats against their business plan which seems to be pretty cautious.

First they came for Microsoft and we said nothing. Then they came for Nintendo, and we said nothing. One day the evil Sony empire will rule the galaxy and it all started by sending their minions after their gaming competitors.

Joking of course, I have no idea if you even game on the Playstation lol

Wii output was better but I won’t sell mine. They have some games I would buy but not at $60 . If some of those went to Selects I would pick them up or I will just move on and run emulation on it. MP4 isn’t gonna release on this system .

I've been happy with my Nintendo Switch. A lot of the Switch games I have are actually their first party and exclusives. Something about Nintendo games I still love. People say they outgrow things all the time, so maybe you did. With next-gen right around the corner maybe you will find something in PS5 or Xbox Series X.

I've hardly touched my switch for over a year.

I was chatting with someone just last night about how Nintendo could absolutely dominate if they just got with the current times.

Imagine a powerful Nintendo console that actually competed with Sony/Microsoft and had a proper Online infrastructure.
The sheer amount of IP they are sitting on is crazy and is practically a money printing machine.

You have to wonder if the first party devs are just clamouring to show their creative muscle on a piece of hardware that is powerful.
They must look at the competition and dream about making something with those kind of specs.

What Switch games are you playing that run better on PC? Or did you mean Wii U games that are Switch as well?

At this moment I'm doing a second run in Link's Awakening and I can play at fixed 60 FPS without those drops that are every time you switch areas or enter/exit locations. Also, without the "perimetral" blur (this is an artistic decision, I just like it better without the blur). I'm also playing Mario Odyssey at fixed 1080p 60fps (no dinamic res), without blur. The other game that I'm enjoying with Yuzu is Pokemon at fixed 1080p.

I know that the "portable" factor is crucial for many people, so I'm not going to evangelize anyone here on this, but those are my reasons to put my Switch on sale and just play on Yuzu (for other games such as MK8, BoTW or DKTF, CEMU is best).

I think it's a nintendo burnout, they generally create really fun games but sometimes that's not enough.
You'll probably feel the urge to dive in again in some years.

I wont ever sell mine but I can see why someone would. Their still impossible to find in my area.

Ill admit I am shocked Nintendo does have some big title announcements. Gotta hope a new Direct but who knows with Nintendo.

I sold mine a couple of weeks ago, I got BotW and Mario Oddisey, never finished neither one of those, I was playing lots of Turok on it, and FFIX. But for the most part It was collecting dust next to my bed. So I sold it and it is like I never owned it. I was a long time Nintendo fan, but after Gamecube I realized that Nintendo is no longer on the big race, they are doing their thing and selling a lot, but I do not care about that, I wanted Nintendo games to be spectacular techwise, this is no longer the case. They are an old ancient company that settles for the bare minimum which is good gameplay and that's it.

i was about to make the same thread 15 minutes ago, except i havent sold the console yet. Im thinking for my secondary console i will go Xbox Series X/S.
My advice for secondary platform is to invest on decent PC build. Ryzen 7 with with 16GB DDR4 and the new RTX 3070 should give the best multi-platform experience as well as some good PC VR such as Half life Alyx. It might also introduces you to some productive ideas.

I made the mistake of buying all my switch games digitally. Now I'm stuck. Its my second nintendo console after the Wii. Got rid of the Wii a long time ago. But now I'll hold onto it but I might be done buying things for it for a long while.

Same thing happened to me :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I brought my switch around launch and played the crap out of BOTW then I stopped playing it. But I would never sell it because in the past when I've sold my consoles I have always regretted it plus I purchased all my games digitally so that would be a waste.

If you're anything like me, you'll re-buy it. I sell consoles all the time and have bought them back and resold numerous times. The top contender for this treatment is the SNES. I'm using #7 right now, sold and repurchased numerous times the: Wii, GameCube, MegaDrive, NES, PS3, and handhelds. I sell not only because I want money to buy a replacement; sometimes I get bored with one. The Switch and PS4 are gifts I bought for my wife...so...those don't get sold. I get you though. Newer gen consoles tend not to live up to the expectations of previous generations and we can feel a bit let down by what they have to offer usually in terms of game quality. For example, this last Luigi's Mansion was not exclusively developed through Nintendo and was the first time I've read that a 3rd-party dev worked on it. BoTW and Skyward Sword may need another 5-10 years before fans can look at them with a more positive view. I liked watching my with play BoTW but I still enjoyed the 8-16 bit Zelda games more and Ocarina of Time or Wind Waker.

Funny, I just bought a switch for my 5 year old off my nephew who figured he had outgrown nintendo himself.

But I am 43 and still love dippnig my toe back in Nintendos waters from time to time
