Since we have no significant news, how about we speculate a bit? What are your predictions for launch bundles of new consoles?

On the PS5 side, the most obvious choice would be a Spiderman: Miles Morales bundle (which is also rumoured to include the previous SM game). Another possibility would be COD because we know Sony has a marketing deal. And of course someone's going to mention a Bugsnax bundle so I'll do it first.

On the Xbox Series X I think we can expect a BC bundle with GP sub for 3 months and an AC: Valhalla bundle. Any other ideas?
There was clearly a Halo bundle for Xbox, so now they will need to replace that. My guess is a year of game pass. Microsoft usually has 3rd party bundles too, like Madden or NBA, Destiny, AC etc.

For Sony, I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s just the system, maybe a Spider-Man as you said. Maybe another launch game for a different market if Spidey isn’t as popular there. And they’ll throw in a free month of PS plus or now or some thing,

Anyone surprised Tom Warren is saying Series S GPU is 20 CUs at 1.55 GHz? Will that really be enough to target 1440p or will it need to settle for 1080p?
It could target 1440p, but not on the same graphical settings as series x. And i think raytracing is out of the question for lockhart.

Is it a game though? I watch quite a lot flight sims on Twitch but never noticed anyone using any game modes in them (except for military sims). The usual scenario is flying from an airport X to an airport Y. There's no scoring, competition, race, all those things that make a game.

From videos I've watched there is scoring for challenges and leaderboards.

Oh please. The clue is in the name.

EDIT:
'Microsoft Flight Simulator is a series of amateur flight simulator programs for Microsoft Windows operating systems, and earlier for MS-DOS and Classic Mac OS. It is one of the longest-running, best-known, and most comprehensive home flight simulator programs on the market. '

No, it's not what you traditionally call 'a game'.

You "play" it though don't you? Is Minecraft a game?

A game doesn't need all these constructs like scores, clearly defined goals, stats, upgrades etc. It just needs to be something you play surely? If the game needs you to define some of these objectives yourself, or play purely for the challenge of how it plays then it's simply a different approach to what a game is. You can play it how you want, just because it doesn't necessarily tell you how your should play and progress it doesn't make it less of a game.

We should be proud and laud the variety of gameplay experiences this hobby allows for, not shoot down the ones that take an approach we don't like.

I did the math. It may very well be able to target very similar graphical settings considering the Series X is 3 times more powerful and the difference between 1440p and 4k is 2.25x the pixel count. Considering efficiency losses from 52CUs vs 20CUs... You get the point.

If/when series S is real, it limits series x options.

Want to make ultra good graphics at 1080-1440p/30hz for series x? Cant do that, unles it runs like 720p on series s

So series x is forced to target 4k or series s is forced to have sub 1080p res OR low quality details.

On PS5 devs have option to make 1080p/30hz super ultra graphics game if they choose so.

Anyone has seen the Series S logo in any future game trailer? I don't recall it even in Microsoft first-party cinematics for games targeting 2-3 years from now. Isn't it weird?

Still derailing (I promise this is the last)....

'Just another Manic Monday aahaaa'
'Could have been Sunday aahaaa'

My heart melted watching her doe eyes while she was singing those lyrics. Yes me too had a mad crush on her during my youth... Prince sure knew how to pick em!

Can never forget...

You must of heard of Mazzy Star, she's been on Live with Jules Holland
Still get goosebumps hearing her sing and melt... erm melt like the T1000 Terminator into a floor maintaining perfect surface contact for excellent heat dissipation... gotta keep it on current subject yes!

simply beautiful.

And as for the bold part lol Epic

No, there is no official logo so far, the only mention of Series S in a Microsoft official document is the (alleged) leaked new controller manual where it's mentioned in the list of compatible devices.

It still makes sense in general, since they did not announce it. Though the time for announcing it, if it really comes out in 2020, is realistically running out.

Neither of them is going to make 1080p 30fps games for the Xbox Series X nor PS5. The consoles are too powerful for that and Sony also wants to sell 4K televisions.
4K is the "baseline" in console gaming this year and will be for the next 7 years. The Series S might be the 1080p 30fps console.

Also like Microsoft has stated before they are not pushing for AAAA games like we are used to from Sony. They are focused on bringing out AA games that you can play on gamepass.

I think it is actually the other way around. Design games with the weaker Xbox Series S in mind and then scale it up for the Series X by increasing resolution, maybe RayTracing and some other settings, but resolution might be enough

yeah i guess i was expecting to hear about exciting hardware customizations but we mostly just got confirmation of the numbers going around. I do find it interesting how MS is limiting power draw to 200w same as current gen.

200W? I only saw that they wanted to maintain the same GPU power usage as Xb1 (presumably xb1x)

That suggests 110W to 150W TDP range.

No it’s not. MS knows that if they lose their hardcore the box is done, and the only ones left will be the rest of their broke ass customers responsible for X1 subpar attach ratio.

Hiding the S is all about protecting those customers, telling them that XSX is at the center of their strategy. Fact is that Gamepass is at the center, and a 600$ console is completely at odds with that strategy. The last 12 months have been nothing but MS fighting for the hardcore to not leave in droves towards the PS5.

Announcing the XSS before the hardcore had time to get used to it would be fatal.

And for the fanboys who might read this post and feel otherwise, trying to spin it as some genius move... when Lockhart rumors first surfaced, the vast majority of the Xbox hardcore threw a tantrum. It has taken months for them to feel like otherwise.

What's interesting here is that is that to my mind, and despite what some are saying, XSS is a limiting move by Microsoft. The XSX really can't afford to try and go sub 4k on titles now, because if a game is that taxing on the XSX it would mean the XSS would (if it is indeed proportionately as powerful as XSX but @ 1080p) have to go below 1080p to have the same effects. Sony meanwhile can go 2k or 4k on PS5 and not have issues.

Fun Theory Time: Sony can have their games render well below 4k and use A.I. upscaled/checkerboarded cheats to reach 4k. In fact, I wonder how many games we'll see on PS5 that are actually 2k and use advanced trickery to go to 4k and look amazing. XSX in this instance would indeed be the resolution king, but they might not look as pretty. We know that MS has their ML stuff, and Sony probably has some sort of goodies packed onto their die or devkits too given their years long involvement with technology like checkerboarding. This is just wild speculation on my part.

I find all of this pretty funny. PS5 has 'variable clocks', but Xbox has 'variable specs'.

At any rate, the one thing I really want to know more about this next generation is basically the Sony and MS approach to Nvidia's DLSS. Crickets so far as to specifics afaik.

NeoGAF is a browser game. You write posts and try to dodge bans brought by mods. Some people succeed, others fail, you get points (reaction scores). It's also cross-platform multiplayer.

Let it go :)

Lots of laughs here, seriously, I remember user Duskgolem and how he was practically banned from Era ... it's like when EA still cared about Battlefield and you saw a team member playing "hey we have a professional here" and this just stay afk Lol..

I have a classic song I’m pretty sure anyone can use to set the mood when prices/pre-orders are announced:

Just one of the best damn songs ever.

He is brilliant.

I remember the first girl i ever fell in love with, this damn song was playing at the time.

Makes me cry sometimes. Very manly/fishy i know.
If you don't like this, you have no SOUL cough sole

... for people with time on their hands, followed by literally something else on their hands :messenger_beaming:

Pretty faces shame about the thunder thighs. I understand the concept of more 'cushion for the pushin' but yikes, personally it's a turn-off seeing a girl with bigger thighs than mine. Then I did a search for what THICC in your name meant then it all became clear, reminds me of those old paintings of voluptuous (Fat!) nudes... looks as tho they're back in fashion :messenger_grimmacing_ . Sorry dude I shouldn't judge, this is your thing (and so many others) then enjoy... BUT SKINNY CHICKS RULEZ!!

LoL sorry I'm warring over this, hope I don't get banned cos the MOD prefers THICC girls too :messenger_grinning_squinting:

Mod of War Mod of War likes whales, you are in trouble my friend, it's game over.

I saw him and AeneaGames AeneaGames walking down the road together, i thought it was the start of a god damn stampede.

Nothing wrong with a bit of meat on the bone but damn, i draw the line at Mama Cass.

for people that don't know who Mama cass is she is from this beauty.

I recall Gamernyc78 Gamernyc78 saying he likes thick woman, i think he meant this

It means Sony first party will continue shining bright against the competition. Xbox studios are stuck with that XSS as a target for the next eight years, and X1 as a target for the next 12/24 months.

But considering their cross platform strategy, GaaS and AA focus, it’s clear they don’t aim to compete in terms of pushing cutting edge tech in their productions. They only want “engagement”, they want that MTX hard.

I don't think there are a lot of people who'll bite a $600 console with nothing new to offer. It's one thing to come to an anonymous game forum and say how loyal you are to your fav brand but it's a different one to let $600 go from your card, take it home and play the same games you did for the last few years. We can already see that in sales numbers. One Nintendo game sold probably around 10-15 million consoles for them because it hit the right spot of worldwide lockdown. As we're closing to another one due to the return of the pandemic in autumn, millions of people will want something new, shiny and colourful to cheer them up while sitting at home again (I definitely will). A sad Craig isn't an answer.

Phil Spencer isn’t trying to sell more units than the competition remember?

native 4k is impossible to uphold with 12tf let alone 10tf.
We´ll be back to 1440p with all the visual bells and whistles in no time.

Yup could be happening. Upscaling technologies and all that. It isn't black and white anymore though I think we are going to see a lot of native 4K games. I even think it is something they should do if the results are as good as what we have seen Playstation do or what Nvidia has done with DLSS 2.0 in Control and Death Stranding.

6 years ago I didn't think it was possible for a 1.8TF PS4 to have games as good looking as TLOU2 to run at native 1080p, but here we are. The Xbox One X red dead redemption 2 running at native 4K (correct me if I am wrong) is also very impressive.

There will be a lot of threads about what games run at what resolution though. Xbox gamers won't let people get away with craiggate when they find out a multi platform title runs at 2160p on series X and 1900p on PS5.

I seriously wonder what he's trying to do. If Xbox were a separate company, I'd suspect the Nokia strategy but it's their own brand, no need to devalue it for any reason. I'm not concerned by any means, suits me well, just curious.

But that`s what the power difference will come to...and aside from some board users no one will care...or even see a difference.
Halo infinite clearly shows that next gen optics aren´t defined by resolution and framerate.
On the other hand Sony`s exclusives will have a baseline of 10tf...while Microsoft forces their developers to work with a 4tf machine.
Give a developer like naughty dog or SSM 10tf, and a 1440p/30 target with DLSS(or similar) and let the magic unfold.

At this point I seriously think they are mostly throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks. Think about it, they are leaving all doors open:
  1. Series X - top gamma, expensive home console
  2. Series S - mid-range, cheaper home console
  3. Game Pass - subscription-based access to a gaming library
  4. Project xCloud - cloud gaming for mobile devices
If one or more just fail, Microsoft can drop them in a couple years' time. If they do OK, they will just keep existing and indirectly benefit from the existence of the other ones. If they are a big moneymaker, they can be incentivized.

The fact Microsoft is pushing Game Pass so much in comparison to Series X makes me assume that they did their calculations and decided on what horse it's worth betting the most and which one can just exist and drag along. After all, Series X has direct and serious competition (PS5), Game Pass doesn't, so if people are actually buying it and they see good customer retain projections, why not go all-in and get the untapped market while it is such.

So, for Microsoft right now it's much more important to announce that a game is coming to Game Pass and that you can access it anywhere, rather than how good it will be on Series X. Hence current-gen and PC support, and why the last big event was literally the Game Pass showcase, while not a single second of footage was captured and promoted as coming from an XSX.

Yeah you are absolutly right.
Thats totally anti consumer.
I didn't buy this game to get additional MP shoved dwon my thirsty throat.
Sony are the worst. Never said anything about Ghost of Tsushima getting more content. Never advertising it as a game that will keep on delivering.
They didn't even sell me any season passes or other dlc.
Sony really is disgusting.

Edit just for clarification:

Well, I think MS is really going for $599. This wait is more because they also want Sony to price it $599 so they are even. Maybe they're willing to go to $499 with Sony but they obviously don't want to lose money unnecessarily so. Then we have both PS5 DE and Lockhart, where Sony doesn't want a cheaper console than the PS5 DE even if less powerful... I wonder if they're okay with a $100 price difference now that they have the best (the only) launch line up. I guess they must be, they can't take losses any further.

But I wonder how Lockhart will be marketed, is it 1080p? Is it 1440p60 (per Tom Warren)? What if people want a cheap 4K console, what they'd do?
