To be fair, it's not Phil/MS who decided to devalue the brand. The market did that. They spent the entire generation trying to position Xbox as a premium entertainment brand, with the focus on attracting higher spending customers. It didn't work, it's not the brand they have.
Things MS learned this gen?
- A whole lot of Xbox controllers sold. It's the n1 controller for Windows.
- Xbox consumers buy less games but spend a lot on MTX and services(mandatory gold for F2P helps that).
- It's a FPS box. 7 out of the top 10 best selling games on the console are FPS.
- Xbox first party isn't pulling its weight at all.
So go cross platform, bet on gamepass and gaas, invest on AA to diversify, buy more first party talent. And if all this is true, then why not have a cheaper box out there? They will be targeting low specced PCs anyway.
The strategy is obvious.

I challenge anyone to find ONE THING that he said in the past 6 months that contains an original (so not something that everybody else was already convinced of), punctual (so no "they will show a huge game at the next game event") prediction that turned out to be even half-correct.
His greatest achievement related to gaming journalism is being a former writer for a bottom-of-the-barrel Italian gaming and tech website that scores less than 100 views per article on average. Totally believable that guy has inside sources at BOTH Sony and Microsoft that know information that is probably kept more secreted than Phil Spencer's freaking Social Security number.

Indie and smaller games will go for 4k. Bigger games will eventually try to push visual fidelity, reducing resolution in process.
I and many others will prefer UE5 demo level of graphics at 1440@30 to native 4k and/or 60 fps in non-competitve fast paced games (i.e. multiplayer shooters, fightings and race games).

And we are yet to see ray tracing on XSX. Oh wait, we haven't seen any gameplay on XSX to begin with, maybe the XSX software is too good to make games for? And yet we hear about 4K difficulties by devs on PS5.

I don't think we will see such a scenario, I mean, even MS knows how terrible offer the Series S would be next to PS5 DE at the same price point. But if Sony is indeed willing to take a 100$ hit for a 20$ BD, then so is MS, so subtracting 100$ from 299-349$ instead of 499-549$ would create unprecedented value in the eyes of an average consumer.

I am aware of this offer from Sony (which does not specify PlayStation, anyway that means nothing) and many others also from Sony. The important thing is that the new technology is already functional. Sony has always been very interested in these types of devices. And he has a lot of experience and failures. And from it you learn and improve. PSVR2 will be awesome when they decide to launch it.

There's an interesting article on Digital Foundry from 2013 about the PS4 having two different memory busses with different amounts of bandwidth - Onion and Garlic. Which to me sounds very much like the XSX having two different speeds for its CPU/GPU memory. What do you think?
