I wonder if PS5 Ray Tracing customisation is a potential RDNA 3 feature 🤔

My guess if the latest news sony is distributing their api and dev support based on what they done for Ratchet and Miles, probably doing efficient api based on LOcal Ray (written in Vulkan) if its Sony that is the console manufacterer who has adopted it. No news yet, likely in teardown.

Which of the AMD and Sony method patents made it to the hardware is speculation, both Sony and MS not said anything really oven hotchips wwas mainly PR................VRS and mesh shaders are not news.

Do I really need more? Hell yes, you know, like actual facts.

I’ve checked the first two items on your list and you are badly misrepresenting the truth in both cases…

1) Halo Infinite
He does talk about the shortcomings of dynamic lighting and how that contributes to the problem but does not suggest it was ‘an easy fix’. I’ve added direct quote below to show how misleading your take is……

"the dynamic lighting technology is core to 343's plans and it's hard to believe it would be scrapped or dramatically altered this close to launch."

"Beyond indirect lighting, the next largest point to look at is level of detail. Rocks, grass and even far-off fog billboards exhibited jarring pop-in."

"Then there are smaller things like the lack of first-person shadows on the view weapon and the Master Chief's hands. Games like Crysis 3 have been doing this since 2013."

"Also curious are some very 'solid' looking opaque effects for elements like shields - I much prefer Bungie's approach in Halo Reach."

"I'm not fully sold on some of the choice of materials:
yes, the indirect lighting is a real issue in how these are rendered in this demo, but there's a lot of plastic and standard metal on display here - a far cry from the very vibrant, alien-like materials used in prior Halo games."

"I hope the message gets through that
the reaction to the Halo Infinite reveal isn't down to this format - which is exactly what we want to see - but rather down to the content."

No big deal? Easy fix? The article says no such thing. You just wanted them to publish the Craig meme and call it a day.

2) Spiderman ray tracing.

This 'evidence' is from Twitter. There was a single screenshot from the Spiderman game and Alex was asked…

"Q: what do you think Alex? Raytraced?

Alex: Low angle with post-process DOF in the background is the best way to show off SSR as the low angle means most of everything on screen can be reflected.
Need a different shot to say something more definitive."

So, based on the single-screenshot Alex said, effectively, “I can’t tell from this image alone”.

Oh my, how damning!

What you claim in the first two points of your list is so inaccurate and, ironically, extremely biased, that I’m not going to waste my time hunting down these other ‘transgressions’. I'm can only assume that there’s nothing to them except for your own irrational dislike for the guy.

Note: The fact that you list Kingtrash as proof of something is not a positive sign. Sheesh.

I think, in a case like this where you attempt to damage someone’s reputation based on unfounded accusations, that you should, at the very least, use direct quotes and actual links. If you can’t find them, then don’t make outrageous claims and then present them as fact.

you weren't by any chance in that discord channel as well>?

Just checking>? :messenger_grinning:

I reiterate what I wrote before the summer. In the tear-down for the PS5 Ihope/expect to see a lot of customisation with regard to:

1) Geometry engine
2) GPU cache(s)
3) RT

With regard to 3) I really start to wonder if the RT solution is simply embedded in the CUs per the standard new RDNA2 design - seems we see more RT than expected at 4K for that. The alternative is that there is a novel software algorithm to optimise the number of rays (such as the Israeli company rumour). Or both.

Tear down of PS5 showing what? In a video about the hardware? Nothing you listed will be shown in a teardown. Like here's the PS4 Pro video.

Sony is going for the jugular. 12TFs don't mean shit if you don't have the games.

Recently there have been other games with brand new official twitter handles found, the FF XVI twitter acc doesn't mean an announcement is imminent.
Companies reserve those jfl.

They could. Killzone is a more scif fi / fantastic future IP world. Even Guerrila said it was conceived of as like an alternate WW2 in the future. Thats one option for a game, but it limits the guns and tech and world to that IP.

I could see them instead wanting to revive SOCOM if they desire using modern day military tech instead of Killzone style tech and weapons.

Its just a stylistic choice and could affect how big the game sells. I'd personally rather play a modern day FPS like COD and R6 then a Killzone or Halo sorta future sci fi FPS, but thats just me.
Guerrilla is not the type of studio that develops someone else IP. They are either making a Killzone or entirely new IP.
I also find it weird for sony to develop multiplayer. These games are already oversaturating the market. Such a game will likely disappear under fortnite and COD.

My personal hype for this console launch is at an all time low.

I may get more excited once the PR machine really ramps up but as of right now I have not seen a single thing that screams I must have this.

Knowing I am buying a 3090 and plan on playing all multiplats on PC this year and might only buy the PS5 for the few exclusives I will play really has me down on the new consoles.

My hype level right now 3/10 but start showing me stuff and I am sure that will rise.

Wow this is odd, I came across somewhere not sure where in gaf or era or twitter, someone else had posted the exact same comments word for word.

Sony owns SOCOM IP. The old studio was closed down years ago. So it'd be basically a new IP. They might even just name it something slightly different.

I could see it being like Killzone or COD where it has a story singleplayer mode and then multiplayer as well. Idk which will be the focus.

The manufacturer told me wheels will be there when I buy it. Just like all wheels in every car ever created, they'll work as intended.

The real point of discussion is the progress and timimg of MS for the velocity architecture implemetation apis and drivers / OS.

The hardware for both systems are done along time ago, the state of the OS / drivers and APIs is the real questions. My take is MS will only show next gen stuff running on XSX when they are done.......

Maybe show CoD MP running at 120 fps even if its 1080p

How can anyone show anything running on 120fps online? There's no capable streaming service, not to mention the amount of viewers using 120Hz monitors would be ridiculously low. The closest we saw a 120fps demonstration was with Ori and The Will of the Wisps, and that slowdown was awful.

Last but not least give me my damn HDMI 2.1 Firmware update to my X900H TV.

Not fair, not gaming related

Damn so Microsoft's IO APIs are possibly not so great yet?
Ouch.

Exactly. If anything, there'll be a heavy focus on the system's cooling solution mostly to justify the console's size.

Give me that 120FPS and an FoV slider.
The lack of a FOV option on PS4 Warzone has really annoyed me recently, PC players have a huge advantage there.

Hopefully with the extra grunt on the next-gen consoles we‘ll see more FOV options, probably not though.

It doesn't matter who announces first, September 9th is THE day for Sony: 25th PS anniversary, COD MP reveal and NFL season starts next day. That's just unmissable

I would still be pissed in Japan if this is what they are doing! The ani is only ever on 3rd of Dec. They ain't the Queen! I think if the event is on the 9th it is coincidence. The PS4 Pro was revealed on 7th Sept and PS4 on the 20th Feb and if PS5 full reveal is on the 9th it means all events happened on a Wednesday. Maybe that mid-week timing works best for Sony business?

One of the main reasons I enjoy BF much more on console.
COD's console FOV is objectively waaaaay too low tbh

Isn't the first time that Microsoft is late with the proper drivers and API's with the release of a console. You would think they learned from their previous mistakes.

Here is my daily driver and yeah I am a truck person.

I used to date a woman that is a successful celebrities lawyer, and does song lyrics, poems, sculpture and painting on the side.
I'd say the definition of a fully grown upper class urban type person.
well, she had such a hard-on for every single pickup truck that I could never for the love my life understand. she would see one in the street and yank me to look at it and almost whistle every time :messenger_grinning_squinting:
her life style is the exact opposite of needing a pick-up.
you truck people are strange people, but I guess you already know that :messenger_beaming:

ps I dig your black toy though

Love that and beautiful shots.

Did you experience the "death wobble" ?

I am very much looking to import one in the NL, its funny because here owning a car is very expensive but for big trucks like these you can register them as utility vehicles and they cost much less than a normal car.

Sorry for the off-topic :D

To be fair, hardware was done ages ago for both, and both willl be optimising versions of api and OS before release.

Sony even said they are working on rolling Ray Tracing apis in the last big document, i bet Ratchet and Miles are the test beds, we can see the ratchet evolution shown to us already.

To be fair to MS, reworking the whole windows api (if IO api etc is to be PC also) is a big task, lots of security and legacy. But it explains why we see what we see so far and all the loading demos and resume on old games only is my GUESS.

This is from years ago.
I think they specifically said they would elaborate on parts of the silicon (maybe the cache scrubbers) in the teardown so you can expect it to be more technical that the previous ones.
