As of now, as far as I can tell, NeoGAF is comprised of only forums, and even though only one of them is dedicated to video games, it is the most popular one. Furthermore, the very name of the site, "NeoGAF," pertains to games because it means New Gaming Age Forums. Hence, do you think that NeoGAF should expand by hiring editors to write reviews of games and to make corresponding videos, as well as articles and videos about video-game news?

Please express your opinions respectfully.

Ask me about my fanboy energy!
Forums where broad categories and interests of people come together like NeoGAF should never do this. These are only good for sites like XboxEra or NintendiLife where they mostly have one specific fandom, they do reviews and also have a forum. Otherwise, the editors life would be hell.

Yes, but NeoGAF was created primarily for gaming and its very name indicates that.

GAF is Gaming Age Forums. Gaming Age was the news and review site and it died long, long ago. I don't see it coming back. I stand corrected! It lives!!!

No.

I like forums. This is the last good gaming forum on the net, to my knowledge.

Maybe a parallel site, but should not "become" anything.

I think NeoGAF already is a full fledged gaming review and news site... a lot better than most anyway.
Also this. GAFfers opinons often help me deciding what to buy.

I wouldn't mind news, but we already get threads dedicated to any piece of info worthy of even the slightest bit of discussion, so a news section is ultimately unnecessary.

As for reviews, I'd avoid them like the plague if the reviewers were people on this site. This place is a crapshoot of sober, thoughtful, unbiased viewpoints and dumb shit that makes plucking my own teeth out seem more desirable.

Forums are pages long reviews, editorials and op eds on games already. What would be helpful is a view of threads that only shows highlighted or informative posts.

HELL NO

Edit: it does a better job covering all bases of a news and reviews site without being one.

Like others said, the news/reviews are already here in the form of user reviews and discussion.

The alternative to being viable is having the sheer size of staff and output as an IGN. That’s a crazy amount of overhead and expense that demands a wealthier parent company. Goodbye free speech in that scenario.

I prefer the forums, review threads, news and everything else NeoGAF already has. Making it a strict news and reviews site just imposes limitations on the content which is just STUPID and BORING.

lol nah.. running a forum is a tiny fraction the work of running an actual website that publishes real content, not to mention the cost associated with that.

I think we should make it a kebab review site.

The chicken shish I had last night was marvellous. The meat was tender, the bread was fluffy, the salad was fresh, and it ran smoothly at 60 frames per second. 10/10.

I'm in.
We already have insiders from youtube and twitter and tech experts.
We also have a well defined editorial line: Druckman=shit, Xbox=shit, Nintendo=good.
In any case can do worse than Kotaku.
I also have a good avatar.

I'd take official NeoGAF reviews.

What could set them apart would be that the review would feature the opinion of multiple users. Each would write their own paragraph about the game and then there would be a final paragraph where they would have to all collectively agree on a final score.

I also think we need a NeoGAF podcast - that's probably more important than the reviews.

I think the independence that NeoGAF has built up as a Gaming + discussion site since the mid-2000's is what gives it it's quality and appeal to gamers. It does seem to have ever been exclusively gaming since the early 2000's and allowing writers and editors in to visit is great. Allow writers and editors to make themselves at home might cause conflict with those who want to have casual gaming discussion. If you type in top gaming forum sites, NeoGAF is up there in the top 5 but it's really not a reviews site and never has been. Reviews would take controversy and trolling to another level if they were being submitted regularly by users. Once again, journalists, editors, and such should always feel welcome and see good presentation in the Gaming discussion when visiting (and they do visit). Yet, forums (which NeoGAF prides itself on) allows users to offer various opinions in a flowing form of typed conversation. Best not to mess with the formula we have here now...because it's helping the site to grow.

This would never work for a very divisive game such as TLOU2 for example.
What could work is a review section that whenever a game is released, a new thread is created about this game. Then the users interested in reviewing it would write about it and score it, and the average would be displayed in the first post or something. Like Metacritic, where every user review counts, but mods would enforce concise written opinions only.
The review section would be reserved for user reviews only, and not for discussions about the game.

Sure, let's register GamingAgeTrailers.com and bring the dorito pope in to lead the charge. /s

No. If someone wants to make a news thread or a review thread that's as far as it should go IMO.

The community here is strong precisely because it is "site agnostic", apart from Evilore there are no figure heads, no one who has the "official site opinion", no one who is championing any particulate cause or argument around a game or console who's considered in a position of authority.

They just made the SUPER IMPORTANT step of adding PRONOUNS to your profiles! It's so special that a site takes the time to add such an IMPORTANT FEATURE, I NEED people to know that I identify as a dragon/pony/kola/he/him/they it stops embarrassing moments! Gaf needs this!
