Well the patent abstract literally says its the home screen of the console. Not a pause screen.

It will be very direct..

Home screen -> Game -> Resume

...and thats its. Its what Cerny described to Wired a while ago.
Yes, what i mean is there will be much greater integration between the game and the PS5's UI. instead of having a "pause" menu, you'd hit the PS button and you get the full PS5 UI overlaid over the current game, where the big icons all correspond to different modes of the same game ("multiple icons representing multiple contents relating to a single application"), and the bottom icons serving as your multitasking bar, similar to the dock in IOS.

I already own a PS4 Pro over the X1X, and I have no regrets at all, so I fail to see how a smaller difference in the next generation is going to make me disappointed.

If it's all about power, I hope you getting a high end PC over the XSX, or you're going to be disappointed.

Because you say so??? Explain how the differences are greater.
Why did you buy a PS4 Pro if extra power is of no consequence?

Vaporware : PS5

:messenger_winking_tongue:

I kid but I think Deep Down is over. As for Elden Ring no idea why you think that. I don't have any idea of Good and Evil 2 though.
I had completely forgot about deep down if we're being honest. A thread comparing it to the Demon souls remake reveal made me realize we've been duped lol

oh ok sorry I misunderstood you. Its just gonna be the same home screen as on PS4, but super super fast. Jump in, jump back, switch games, resume a game, all in 1-2 seconds.

Is there any way to estimate how many PS5s would have to be made to fulfill true preorder numbers?

If Sony made 10, 20 million day 1 would it still be sold out? They project to hit 10 million by late March and I know there will still be shortages.

I know most of the negative threads gracing the front page is warrior shit level because if it was true there wouldn't be so many people buying or looking right now..

The magic number to hit for an entire gen is 100 million but I feel like they could legit sell 20 million right now.
Preorders have not opened for all the world too, they will be getting their due stock and opening the preorders soon , so all of the stock till December will most likely be sold through. If the could make 15 million for real like those FUD articles wrongly claimed, they would sell all of them.

I can't believe how stacked PS5's first year is in terms of console-, timed- and Playstation 5 exclusives.

  1. Spider-Man: Miles Morales
  2. Demon's Souls
  3. Sackboy: A Big Adventure
  4. Astro's Playroom
  5. Destruction AllStars
  6. Godfall
  7. Ratchet & Clank: A Rift Apart
  8. MLB 21: The Show
  9. Returnal
  10. Horizon Forbidden West
  11. Gran Turismo 7
  12. God of War: Ragnarök
  13. Deathloop
  14. GhostWire: Tokyo
  15. Kena: Bridge of Spirits etc..
And maybe Final Fantasy XVI?
all this? Im sure it is not going to happens

Of course power is important. I never said otherwise.

I already own a PS4 Pro over the X1X, and I have no regrets at all, so I fail to see how a smaller difference in the next generation is going to make me disappointed.

Hmmm. Buys a PS4 Pro because ''Of course power is important'. Says Xbox owners should 'buy a PC if power is important'.
It's a tad inconsistent.

You bought a PS4 because you like Sony games, fair enough. However most games are third-party and the PS5/Series X power gap is likely to make a difference in those games.

BTW, that's a lot of games.

Fuck even Stadia is in there for some reason and they missed Series S? I don't think it was a mistake, but intentional.
Cause we know with their previous naming nomenclature, they could've easily put Series X|S in there it is just this symbol-> | and upper case letter S
So again I believe it was intentional, it is not something like DS also coming to other consoles and PC mistake.

You clearly have not read the entire discussion.

It was never me making the argument that power is the most important. It was TheGreatWhiteShark, but I just pointed out to him, if that was the case, then get a PC.

I've already pre-ordered the PS5, so I've made my decision.

Enjoy your XSX.

If you want play this game then:

PS5 will load those 3rd party games 2-10x faster. That is likely to make a difference in those games, more than tiny graphical differences

BTW that is lot less loading :D

(Differences are most likely irrelevant and bad reason to pick one over another. Exclusives matter most)

Cyberpunk 2077, this game looks absolutely phenomenal! It’s like a next-generation game almost, it has that AWE feeling in its world, The density of the world, it really feels like it’s a fully living breathing world with lots of stuff to discover & just to get lost in, it’s saddens me in a way that a game like Crackdown 3 (I’m a big fan of Crackdown games) didn’t get to look like this and be as deep with its world like this, it was a massive disappointment, it really saddens me & I hate Microsoft for that, these are my real honest thoughts.

I had a feeling that Crackdown 3 might be something huge for Microsoft & be as ambitious as Cyberpunk 2077 or close to it at least, because with their hype machines back in 2015/2016, they led us to believe like it’ll be something huge, but we got a Mobile phone-grade game with bad city design.

That lighting engine and draw distance on PC/next gen are this game's saving grace. its a shame the world/character geometry give away its current gen foundation

I know the Series X has more compute units, but what's the real world difference gonna be? 18%? What's that gonna equate to in terms of increased resolution or effects? Someone remind me again the real world difference between PS4 and Xbox One.
Well the difference between 4 and One is probably more significant, particularly because 1080p is the golden minimum if you go below that you have a problemo, so Xbox One really doesn't pack a good punch.
Most of the time there will be no significant difference between 5 and Seriex, unless the devs fuck up like Rockstar fucked up the resolution of RDR2 on Pro with their subpar CB implementation jfl.

This is very interesting. It corroborates a leak posted some while ago, which mentioned that your library of games are no longer central to the Home Screen but half hidden down the bottom. Most of the display now focuses on a single game. It was dismissed because we thought “why would all your games be hidden at the bottom?’ but here we are.

Ok this has to be said, when Jim said PlayStation believes in generations he was being truthful. This is in stark contrast to Xbox saying don't expect major next gen only exclusives for 2 years. Demons Souls remake is a PS5 exclusive and that's sony first party, there's still many unannounced exclusives for PS5 from Sony WWS. How does Miles Morales, Horizon FW and God of war being cross gen negate his statement or makes his statement as lies?

Every now and then i return to this video and remember we're not even close to reaching the full potential of next gen

This is playable at 60fps on a single 1080TI (Though no mention of resolution).
Can't wait until devs get the pedal to the metal, forget about 4K and just give us the best they can.

God of war isn't cross gen just fyi

That's what I've been saying, they do have next gen exclusives. But all this could have been avoided if they have said from the beginning that games like Horizon, Spiderman and Sackboy were cross gen games and not full PS5 exclusives. One thing doesn't negate the other but they should have clarified that from the start.

It could be cross-gen but I don't think it is. Demon's Souls isn't cross-gen either.

Exactly I mentioned that in my original post saying Demon's Souls Remake is exclusive to PS5. But god of war has been on dev similar to miles morales for the last 2 and half or so years. Back when next gen dev kits weren't even out yet. I mean they could've started working on current gen and moved their efforts to next gen entirely, but i don't see it happening

Yes the ambiguity and taking shade at MS is what that's made Sony look bad in this situation. I mean this sorta reminds me of Sony's E3 2013 where Sony said hey you know that Xbox One DRM thingie, well our console is the exact opposite of that crap. and that was the truth. But here well we do believe in generations but also spiderman horizon are coming to ps4, we won't let you know that until you get hyped for the PS5 first :D

Come on lad... I’m a Playstation fan, but I’m happy to say when they get things wrong. You can’t place so much emphasis on generations, and then port two of your biggest launch period games to the old console. Yes, Ps5 does have exclusives, but they’ve fudged it due to greed, and we really shouldn’t just give them a free pass for it. Both companies need to be more open and upfront.

The funny thing about his statement was about next gen features (DualSense, 3D Audio, SSD) and nothing about cross-gen stuff, unless there's a quote I missed.
He didn't correct the sites saying "no cross gen" though so that's on him.

"We have always felt that we had a responsibility to serve that [PS4] community for several years after the launch of PS5 and that it represented a huge business opportunity for us," Ryan says. "The numbers are quite straightforward. If you say in broad brush figures that we have a community of 100 million PS4 owners right now, and in the first couple of years... I don't know, somewhere between 15 and 25 million might migrate to PS5, that still leaves a huge number of people with PS4s. And that community is demonstrating an amazing stickiness, and willingness to stay engaged that, I think, the events of the past few months have just reinforced what we knew already.

"We have always said that we believe in generations. We believe that when you go to all the trouble of creating a next-gen console, that it should include features and benefits that the previous generation does not include. And that, in our view, people should make games that can make the most of those features.

"We do believe in generations, and whether it's the DualSense controller, whether it's the 3D audio, whether it's the multiple ways that the SSD can be used... we are thinking that it is time to give the PlayStation community something new, something different, that can really only be enjoyed on PS5."
Those features are only available on PS5, not the PS4.

He was also right when he said PSOne games look like shit.

Demon's Souls install is 66 GB. Miles Morales is 50 GB. Miles Morales plus Spider-Man PS5 is 105 GB.

Source: bottom of each store page. Pages for Sackboy and Destruction AllStars are also up, but no sizes listed there.

EDIT: looks like games might be a bit larger than last gen as a general rule, but there is no huge jump. Spider-Man went from 45 GB to 55 GB, probably they increased texture resolution but cut out all the duplicates.

I wonder how big/long the story on MM is compared to the OG, the price they are charging and that game size seems to suggest it's quite big/long. If it's not... I'll wait until the price drops.

Yep, I think games like God of War Ragnarok and Spider-Man 2 will be PS5 only games. They know those 2 would be system sellers and given how Demon's Souls, and potentially God of War and Spider-Man 2, started development in 2018 it's not hard to believe they're saving those for PS5.
