yeah definitely ...last gen was a disaster for MS and all they could do is claw their way back as much as they could.....but this gen its clearly very different, I think they have made all the right moves to have a very different result this time..

I dont see them beating sony but they are well positioned to have a much more successful and close as far as sales at least as it looks now.

We'll see. I hope so, because having one dominant force in the marketplace isn't good for us. But right now there's just a lot of promise of things to come. Many of the games people are looking forward to are a long time away.

I think some people are missing the point of the acquisition. This is clearly to beef up what's available on game pass/streaming, not sell more hardware than Sony. Having these titles available on game pass at launch is extremely expensive on a per title basis if you don't own the studios. As more AAA titles go to game pass, more players go to game pass, Microsoft will get other AAA titles to release on game pass at a much lower rate due to "owning" the audience.
And technology , share engine tech , the ID engine is amazing , all Xbox studios will have access now 😈

Here's how you get [Sony]. He pulls a knife, you pull a gun. He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue! That's the [console] way...

Cerny: And what about Escaltion?

Jim: Escalation?

Cerny: We start PS Now they get Gamepass. We set a price, they undercut us so we match them.

Jim: And?
Cerny: And you're money hatting Square Enix... and trying to buy studios to starve them of content. Now, take this guy. Buying the FUCK out of Bethesda and Zenimax

JIM: HOLYFUCKINGNSHIT

By that logic all XGS games(including hits like Sea of Theives, Flight Simulator and upcoming games) will sell more on PS5. Thats not how business works. They would want the Bethesda fans to switch their platform and services. Its business 101.

But they can't bank on people just randomly switching to another console just for one franchise. By that point time, when games like Starfield and Elder Scrolls 6 are out, the PS5 will have outsold the new Xbox quite comfortably. They can't bank on those future series being any good.

Essentially, Microsoft has bought Bethesda for their past games. Although, I'm willing to bet that most of their profits came from sales on the PS4. Yes, they've bought it for their future products, but they can't use that as a selling point for now. They have to prove those future games will be any good. Bethesda definitely has to step up their game in terms of games. They've been lacking in the quality department for a few years now... and a lot of people lost their trust from the whole Fallout 76 gate.

Obviously, Game Pass is way more appealing now. But I can't see them making much a profit from those past franchises, considering big sellers like Skyrim and Fallout 4 have been out for over 5 years now. This move is just about the Game Pass and not about exclusively.

Regardless, Howard and Hines have already stated they're still going to publish their own game and make them available for everyone to play.

I don't really care about Spider-man. This thread is filled with diehard fans having imaginary conversations with some Sony enemy they have in mind. I do prefer PlayStation, but I'm not your enemy. Weird behaviour is weird, though.

Edit: Wait, I didn't even realize you were talking about Avengers. I super don't care about that, lol.

I hope Sony remains exactly the Sony it is now. It will be the only place to get a specific kind of games and that's why I will always have a Playstation... as my secondary console.
Now I hope for their sake that they obey the basic principles of economics and reduce the price of the PS5 which has become the inferior product in hardware, software and services offering. There may not be a secondary console for me to have long term otherwise.

Cant wait to play the first few mns of Starfield on my phone in the bus, the day that it comes out and at no extra cost. Oh but actually Respawn's next game on EA play might come out before that. Is that a notification that I can remote install Forza 8 and it will be on my big screen at 4k60 with RT when I get home? All that for a 6th of the cost of God of war? I guess I'll be more selective about which Sony exclusives I buy (the 3rd parties all play better on Xbox so that was never an option). Only IGN's 10/10 from now on. There's too many "blockbusters" (to quote Jim Ryan) to play for free on GP.

I know this makes sense for MS but isn't this the type of thing people were being very wary of when MS took a more decisive stand in gaming with the X-Box?

Just 7.5 billion for Zenimax? Jesus. I didn't know they were struggling that badly. Maybe this is a sign that Microsoft will change their business practices to be more beneficial to gamers.

Prey and dishonored are pretty much gone due to low sales. Doom is out of ideas.

I want nothing more than prey 2 . Prey took me back when fps were at their height with halflife sytemshcok etc.

But i am affraid it will never happen

Not sure if we're talking about the same game, but I want OG Prey 2. MS now owns Prey and Roundhouse (formerly Human Head), so who knows.

This is more like it, adds a bit of spice into next generation :).

Would this be good for the industry? it would make people buy more consoles and also keep both consoles in the game which is in the end good for the consumer.

I'm going to be a Playstation (and PC) gamer this gen, but honestly, this is probably a good move for Bethesda fans (assuming you have a PC)...clearly the Bethesda management needs a bit of hand holding, and MS is far more invested in their public image than Bethesda has been of late.

Wake up to these news..........

Damn....... Bryank75 Bryank75

Shit just got real.

Good for MS in the sense that content is KING! Hopefully they don't mismanage them like with RARE or 343i. ID Software to sing a different tune about Series S in T-minus....

Overall, a big W for MS. Maybe it even pays dividends in 2021, surely 2022.

More industry consolidation though....:messenger_neutral:

Sony won the console war because of exclusives. If this deal isn't to lock up exclusives on Microsoft platforms then everything they did is a complete 7 billion dollar waste

I like when people in internet forums act like they have got a MBA.

I don't care about Xbox exclusivity, but having Zenimax games day 1 on Gamepass is awesome if you have it. People make fun of MS's first party, but they actually have built quite a stable at this point. Once all of that investment bears fruit they should be in good shape.

I’m about to cancel my PS5 preorder if I snag a Series X order tomorrow.

They keep playing with my emotions.

This is legit megaton. Far better investment than FF16 and marvel exclusive garbage

What was the original megaton? But yeah, this is the biggest one I can remember. If Microsoft plays it right, suddenly we've got a console war again.

New Coomers incoming!

The Doom Coomer! The Wolfenstein Coomer!

Elder Scrolls Coomer coming at some point but probably froze and crashed. We'll show some footage of this when and if it exists.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Legit question but isn't the main market of Bethesda mostly on PC? Like Doom, Fallout, ES, etc.
