Microsoft are going to announce The Acquisition of SEGA next Wednesday (Believe!)

None of those developers were multiplatform that I can remember. A lot of them were effectively 2nd party developers that pretty much exclusively made PlayStation games.
Guerrilla developed games for the Game Boy and the Xbox,
Naughty dog developed games for the Mega Drive and the 3DO previously to them being bought, and Sucker Punch for the N64.

Obviously Sony's support is what made them into what they are today but do not pretend that Sony did not buy their way into the videogame industry.

Sentinels was Vanillaware and Persona5 was made by Atlus ?

Againm, same question, Do Sega make current games still for consoles ?

I have not seen one in many years

Oh Football Manager is huge on Steam.. I used to buy it every year until i had my back injury. Now i'm relegated to a couch PC gamer and have no interest playing a game like that with a controller.
Yeah, i used to buy that shit every year as well until Football Politics and corruption took away my love for the sport.

If MS buy Sega I will eat my own arse.
Surely not two megatons in a row?

Christ imagine if that tweet was actually referencing Sonic? Still Iconic. I can’t see it personally...

I think this rumor has some weight. If we look at the history of Gamepass available games there are some companies which always seem to be there with a good representation. Bethesda was one of them with Doom and Wolfenstein. Sega has had a strong presence with Phantasy Star and Yakuza games. They've been trying really hard with the Yakuza games lately.

In what universe is MS a monopoly? I hope you aren't a lawyer :messenger_tears_of_joy: .

If these acquisitions keep up, who knows what will happen? Sony having exclusives or timed exclusives according to Phil Spencer is anti-consumer and unfair to the gamer, yet Microsoft procuring entire corporations with all of their franchises is fine and even praised? I’m at a lost here. If confirmed, I’ll be afraid that Microsoft will turn Sega’s games into GAAS games or something.

That would explain why Yakuza LAD doesn’t have a PS5 version this year.

Seriously though, i doubt this is happening. Don’t think an American company can easily buy a Japanese company like that.

Also the TGS stream is not even in English. It’s just to show off already announced games.

It's happening. The blue controller is a hint.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
I kinda doubt it.

I mean the Bethesda acquisition came out of nowhere. There was no partnership with Microsoft months before.

Sega on the other hand have PSO2 and Yakuza 7 (timed). Meaning that there’s already an existing exclusivity partnership. But I dunno 🤷

Sakura Wars just released this year in the west and Yakuza: Like A Dragon coming in a couple months.

Projecting some wild far-flung future can make anything seem possible, does not mean that MS is a monopoly for purchasing a game publisher or two.

But MS did the same with FF and KH, right? A lot of games came to Gamepass all at once, but I'm pretty sure they're not going to buy Square.
But well... who knows after yesterday, right?

Imo buying studios to better yourself, to improve your image, to bring added quality to your customers, to grow your business, to simply improve your portfolio, is fair game, no matter who does it.
What Sony is doing is literally paying money to stop sections of gamers from playing a game, and its as simple as that.
I'm sure certain sections will see the situations are similar, but they really arent.
Plus Zenimax were more than willing to sell, or they wouldnt.

There have been several visits and hints (Pictures) if you think back over the last year or so.

The way I see it: Temporary content locking is still stupid, but a valid business move.
Content locking forever is very stupid and a middle finger to a large group of gamers.
Don't care if MS or Sony are doing this.
be consistent then, all exclusives are bad.
if not, you can't assume you must have access to future content because you want them on your preferred box.

I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere before that Japan has some kind of statutes against Japanese companies being bought by out of country competitors or something ? Doesn't mean what I read was correct of course, but I do recall having read something about it.

I‘m not sure about the law but culturally hostile takeovers are incredibly difficult because other companies will band together to outbid potential buyers or cajole the sellers into only selling to Japanese firms instead.

This is a rumour that won't stop popping up. I don't entirely buy it. Earlier in the year, there were some things that made me think maybe - Gamepass, Yakuza, Persona 3 coming to PC (and naturally Xbox at some point, mark my words).

Then I think Sega announced some Sony/Nintendo exclusives. They said they were looking to bring more games to Gamepass in their financials. Those both killed any thought I had of an aquistiotion.

It'd be an unreal get. Sonic becoming a console mascot again is a dream I'd very much like to see come true. In the context of yesterday's announcement, Microsoft would own a LOT of gaming history. Doom, Sonic, Halo, Fallout... All under one roof.

That's a lot of Gamepass stuff as well, not to mention classic A/AA franchises like Golden Axe that would feel very at home getting a Battle toads/Streets of Rage revival.

But it making sense isn't enough. Sammy need to want to sell, and at a price MS wants to pay.

...it's not happening.

Atlus is a subsidiary of Sega and would be included in a sale. Why make the difference?
Also Yakuza, Valkyria Chronicles 4, the Sakura Wars reboot, and Sonic don't count?

Of all the Japanese studios/publishers to buy, Sega is one of the worst.
How much more would Capcom cost?
Just how much money to MS have? lol

Yeah, it might not mean anything, but I'm just searching for clues here.

Has anyone wondered what the hell Microsoft would do with Sammy’s pachinko business?

Or would the deal somehow be for just the SEGA subsidiary?

That’s understandable, but I would really be perplexed as to why Sega would sell to Microsoft. I know, money obviously, but I don’t think Sega would ever be the same. It would be like Rockstar selling to Nintendo. I know Microsoft is trying to expand their portfolio and add diversity, but I don’t see too many games by Sega that really appeal to the XBox demographic. We’ll see soon though.

They are. But if I want to game ANYTHING, I have to live with them.
But for me personally there is a difference between franchises that always have been exclusive (so you know what you have to buy if you want a Halo, a Uncharted or a Mario) and company A/B/C buying a publisher to turn multiplatform titles into exclusives.

I would only be excited if they poured money into old franchises like a shining force 4 or real Phatasy star RPG to go head to head with Final Fantasy.

I seriously don't understand the hype around Sega anymore, if this were the 90's yeah, but these days it is such a meh publisher just like Konami that are way past it and are basically now only running on nostalgia.

They obviously have some truly beloved franchises, but they just don't seem to fit into today's game sphere unless they are on the Switch. Personally, I would find this a waste of money unless it is a bargain buy. I know I will get a tongue lashing for this, but this is just my stance on Sega. There are simply far superior Japanese games studios that have risen to prominence that I would be prefer over Sega.
Sonic was never good

8 pages about a rumor from 4chan? Come on, we can do better than that. The first comment in the 4chan post sums it all up

None of them are the size of Bethesda that holds mutiple studios.
and like I said, Naughty Dogg, Guerilla, Media Molecule etc etc were all working with Sony on multiple games throughout the years before being purchased. A working relationship. And none of them were massive creators before Sony apart from Psygnosis and Evolution.

Sony Or Nintendo has not gone out there and outright spend 7 billion on a company like EA, Activision, Konami, Square etc. Smaller studios they have worked with as 2nd party yes

Stop making excuses for them. Sony would fuck you over every bit as fast as MS or Nintendo would/will.

You seem to be in the 'anti-competitive' court. This will make Xbox very unpopular. PlayStation is a global brand that Xbox can never be and for those people MS are just taking games away from them foir their own control of the industry.

They are pure scum.

Anti-competetive? You spent the past week pissing your knickers on here because one, ONE fucking Playstation game was announced for the PC :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Oh absolutely, they would do everything MS is doing now, if they could. That's the thing though. They can't. Not now, not even 10 years from now. They're much less powerful.
Sony can. And they should. I think they have the money to hit back. I absolutely don't want a monopoly from either companies, and right now MS isn't looking too hot with their console. I think MS being ultra aggressive right now may prove to be beneficial in the long term.

But I agree with you that there is a threat if things get out of hand. Right now ball is in Sony's court and if they underestimate MS they are in trouble.

Be ultra aggressive back. Hit ms hard with acquisitions, and get an exclusive games driven competition ala the ps2 vs xbox, with each console offering vastly diverse games, and both console being relevant for all gamers to buy.

No idea if this is feasible but at least it's given another platform for a bunch of people who've spent the last seven years waving their cyber-wangs around about a console with 60% market share and how it has the only good exclusives to whine about "monopolies"
